grow and i butt heads. i'm not even surprised that she has 3 dog attack stories. but truer words have never been spoken. Core and I will just disagree on the percentage of owners who are bad. -

"a lot" is similar to "most"... many american families have a dog. Some bad experiences don't equate to most or a lot for me. You wont convince me otherwise. These kinds of generalizations are what drives the divide in race, gender etc. Needs to stop. Maybe those in your neighborhood are just shit people who happen to own a dog who becomes an extension of their shittyness. -
I'm going with fake news. every year animal sightings make there way on the web only to be proven as bs.

woah. you just went another direction there buddy. My golden is 12. And our first child before we had our human 3. He's as well mannered and behaved as you could ask for and that's because we raised him that way. We walk him on a leash but we dont have to. He never leaves the yard to chase a deer, dog or person. He may bark if he doesn't recognize you or you knock on the door, but that's what dogs are for. The only time he gets aggressive is if me and the misses are play fighting. Don't mess with his momma and I absolutely love that about him. To categorize "a lot of dog owners" that way is just unfair. -

I was acutally posing that question from a legal perspective more than a moral obligation. If you discharge your firearm and kill a pet it could be a crime. I don't really expect anyone to answer this on the internet honestly, but knowing all the legal troubles and financial crap you're in for even if innocent it's an interesting decision you have to make. -

for arguments sake. If you're on a trail somewhere or a quiet road. You kill the dog... nobody shows up. Do you keep walking? -

falls into the category where I worry about the law after the fact. Nothing would and does surprise me in this shit hole state where a dog can have more rights than a tax payer, but if you approach me I'm doing everything i can NOT to pull the trigger. I don't want the headache, but if it looks like I have no option, i'm opening up BEFORE i'm bit. That being said, you know you're in a legal mess after you kill or even wound that dog. -

I hate that pets can be the victims of human negligence, but the dog needs to be put down and the lady can and should face some legal action. I had to go to special court once for an excessive speeding ticket. There was a lady there trying to get her dogs back and the judge basically was like "no, this is the 3rd time". I'm thinking dog bites shouldn't have more than 2 chances... -
what's the last day/weekend? wasn't impressed a month ago when i went but i know the shelves will be sparse but maybe some gems the last weekend.

Quake, The Claw Rifle Sling
Five Seasons replied to grampy's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
i know 2 claws. Wont buy anything else now that i have one. Have never had a sling slip off and rubber will not absorb smell like leather will. I will say this though, look around online before you buy. The prices can vary wildly for some reason and if you're not picky about color you can get a good deal. -
Good buck on new Browning Cam!!!
Five Seasons replied to WNY Bowhunter's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
would you look at this trophy hunter here. spending his money on cameras when he could shoot a nice fork horn for the food of it. -
your video works. I like this idea too, although i'd prefer a/c and it appeared to get expensive at that point. Either way I'm drilling into my ceiling and I'm tight on wall space with all the tools hanging. I would also think this becomes a 2 person job if your winch remote isn't close to the deer?

yeah i brainfarted on that, they're 10' with drywall. I don't know what was happening in my brain the other night when i measured. When i got home yesterday and i was looking at it, i'm like... if i'm 6'... lol. They're not 8. The hoist is about 8" without the hook. It's still not ideal but I can always lop off some legs. I think I have a new plan that doesn't involve the attic. I am going to get up and peak through the gable vent though. I want to know if I have trusses or not. It'll help me feel better. Anyhow, the hoist has 4 threaded bolt holes at the corner. There are used to attach the bracket (without nuts). So I'm thinking I will just mount the hoist to the 2x6 like in the picture I posted earlier and lag bolt the 2x6 over the span of 3 joists. This will be the simplest but perhaps not the most ideal instal. If it doesn't work from a height prospective I cant just undo it and patch the holes. I do not plan to lift anything heavier than a deer or maybe the front end of my rider. I do suggest anyone who i have inspired to get the 25% harbor freight coupon and head down there before monday or go online (have to pay shipping). Great deal. I probably wont get to this project for a while but I'll end up being somewhere left of the light bulb.
-
so did you just thread the ceiling pulleys into the floor joists?
-
I think it's probably "safe" but from what I read before i did my last setup it's not ideal. It's so easy to just buy a 2x6 and spread that wait across 3 joists and significantly improve your safety. Yeah i believe the previous owner had the garage finished after the house was built. My garage is attached but the attics are not. The home is 2 stories and the garage is off the side and has its own attic. Attached is the best pic i can find on my phone. the garage is on the right behind the evergreens. i'm getting the 440 i posted in the first thread. 25% off right now. $75 for an electric winch? Sign me up lol the pulling down of the hide is actually something some guys forget about with load calcs. That can be a lot of added force/weight to an already heavy (hopefully lol) deer.
-
i don't plan to store anything in the garage attic. There is separation between garage attic and house attic, i too was looking into the code stuff. the wall winch pulley idea is one i was thinking about doing too... maybe easier but not as clean.
-
Has anyone done this kind of setup?
-
Moved into a new home last year. The garage ceiling is 8' and drywalled. The previous dingbat didn't install so much as a hatch to get into the attic so that's step 1. No need for a access ladder or anything but I'll need to do a hatch at least. Anyhow, I had a similar situation in my last house but I did have access to a the attic above the garage. What I did was brace a 2x6 with the 2" laying over the span of 3 ceiling joists and the 6" screwed into 2 or 3 vertical trusses (I believe that's the correct terminology. Wish I had a picture joists on the floor. truss connecting joist to the roof haha). Anyhow from there i cut a small hole in the ceiling and threaded a heavy duty eyebolt into the 2" side of the 2x6. I had no concerns about the setup as it was just for deer and used a manual rope pulley and gambrle system. I would like to do something similar at my new house but want to install an electric hoist. 25% off coupon at harbor freight right now. I have the power nearby at the garage door opener but All of these electric hoists are designed to be mounted to a metal trolley/beam/pipe setup. Could I do something similar to my last setup but by some pipe or beam instead of a 2x6? I've seen some stuff on the web where people have still mounted these hoists to a horizontally mounted 2x6 but I dont think i have the clearance for that.I'd need the hoist to be above the drywall at a minimum. thoughts? https://www.harborfreight.com/440-lb-electric-hoist-with-remote-control-62767.html

like i said. age doesn't mean you're disqualified. But it's not a guarantee you're qualified either. That's the only point. -

It's sort of how you used it. I've been pretty successful in my career and have always been the youngest guy in the executive board room. Someday that will change. However, sometimes the narrative is that because I'm younger than someone else that I somehow possess less knowledge or understanding. The same judgment is made against older pups in the reverse and I know it stings. That's the only heartburn I have when we using age as a measurement of knowledge. Experience yes. It doesn't mean you lack knowledge because you're older, but it all doesn't mean you're more knowledgeable because you're older. I don't really understand your first paragraph so I'm not sure how to respond.
