  1. my permethrin day was yesterday and then i forgot to bring them in and it rained. I think it's still fine but I like to let it soak a few days. oh well.
  2. agreed and only brought this up because there is a loud voice out there that says "it doesn't affect you, with what I do" and that's not always the case. As we all know, hunting a pressured deer is tough. Bowhunting a pressured deer is even tougher.
  3. any activity? I can't imagine the birds are too active in this col.
  4. I know. we're on the same page. Just meant to state that many have no choice but to hunt public land. Hunting has always been the hobby of the common man, but it's increasingly becoming harder for many to afford and trending towards the european model even if that's not what the north american model wants.
  5. How many of us can afford to buy "just hunting land" that they don't build a house on? Reasonable and affordable are not the same thing.
  6. your wife must be ready to breed and appears to be a good guarder of nests if these boys were that interested
  7. I like to think of it more as "passing the time". Us "bickering" doesn't hurt anyone either. I used to be this guy, then it was all gone in an instant. More people hunt public land than you might think and are impacted by this. If you weren't lucky enough to grow up with land or inherit it, you might be shocked what it costs just to get 5 or 10 acres.
  8. that's still not the majority, just the average.
  9. lmao. Majority? Since when was the majority elderly and handicaped?
  10. As some of you know I have an old fruit farm that I hunt. There are probably 60 or so trees, most of them in the category of "slightly to moderately" neglected. I would say 2/3 are peaches with the rest being several varieties of apples and maybe a dozen or so plums that I did some real hard pruning on early this spring because of black knot. I am actively planting clover this spring in an area north of the trees and plan to do a fall plot in an area that is dotted by some of the peaches and plums. The entire property has pretty abundant corn to the north and other crops like soy to the east that seem to rotate with corn as well. I did some light maintenance trimming this early spring but I will never get the orchard to a point where it produces wegmans quality fruit. I just don't have the time or energy to prune and spray affectively. That said I have started and will do some spraying with my fimco 65g utv sprayer. My intentions are to keep the orchard from becoming a jungle and to produce "some fruit". My wife's uncle recommended that I thin many of the trees and focus on keeping a smaller group productive and I think that has merit. My dad thinks now is the time to plant some mast crop like oak, walnut, hickory etc. given how long they will take to become viable. My wife's grandpa says that deer don't eat the peaches at all, just rub them (and on this last part he's not wrong). Does anyone second that deer don't like or prefer peaches? I know they're not around at all during the fall to use as bait, like apples are when they're dropping. I also know that deer will eat just about anything when hungry... but are stone fruit pretty low down on the deer preference list? Would some section of this orchard benefit more from less peaches and more mast producers?
  11. well outlawing abortions not funded by the government would be a good example right? There are probably other examples I could have chose too, but I think you get my point.
  12. I haven't met an anti-crossbow guy yet besides a few curmudgeons from NYBH that are opposed to full implementation for elderly and disabled.
  13. same. Which is why I wont shed a tear if they go full implementation for crossbow. But i can still have my opinion on it.
  14. that's an interesting idea. I think most guys are using winches these days for that. so far haven't got the canam stuck but been pretty damn close haha.
  15. Some people that say this also don't want people to have abortions and don't agree that we should have safe drug use facilities. I mean after all, those are other people doing things that are none of our business right?
  16. 38 with all sorts of cars and trucks and never seen one of those in my life.
  17. I know that's not an AR, but I also don't know what I'm looking at. What is it?
  18. Haven’t had a cam pop a picture of a bird in 2 weeks. I think the woods are too wet, going to have to hunt the fields early on I think and not the roosts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Friday I got to try out my new Kunz rough cut mower on the field I plan to plant some clover on. Thing is a beast. It's amazing that a field that is left for a year will be so full of saplings already. Sunday went back and used the new sprayer which also worked well (I think), time will tell how well it killed the grass. I'll tell you what though, a big jug of super concentrate round up isn't cheap and it might be just enough to do 2 acres with a heavy and light pass. Cameras aren't popping any birds at all, so come opening day I'm not sure where I'll start out. One field I'm letting grow this spring which will be better for birds I think as it's also less swampy ground. Next year I think the clover/chicory plot will be a magnet too.
  20. There's maybe 20 houses in my neighborhood. Last week the only 2 people to mow their lawns were my neighbor to the left and then the one to the right. I had a pretty late mow, but looking a bit scruffy in spots where the grass grows more. Also my kids have been playing football and baseball all summer and spring long so I think it might be a loss cause. Still did a once over on the front last night for the first of the season!
  21. I had replied to that before I had read all the replies haha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Good and interesting point on the shell size. Me over here with my 3.5’s haha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. trust me nobody has forgotten about your buck with the shell hanging off the antler. I see it in my sleep. Have you patterned that setup? If so, can you show us pictures? It's entirely possible you have a great setup and just had a poor shot. It doesn't mean you throw the setup out the window. What you see on paper is what you're getting in reality. The field wont change the pattern, the only thing that changes is the hunter and their anxiety. Of course you need to feel comfortable and confident with your setup, but I just can't see how you'd feel comfortable with that setup. You and I butt heads but generally I like you wolc. You're a good honest dude, even if you hunt a little differently than I would and believe a little differently than most. You're a meat eater and seem like a genuine good person. So your utter stubbornness here to disregard the advice of some pretty experienced and knowledgeable bird hunters (not including me here) is baffling and I just don't get it. And you stated you don't even like turkey, so I just can't understand why all the trouble.
