  1. well politely, I'd say that it is here and there. The vaccine was sometimes misquoted in the media as being a solution to completely ward off the virus, when the medical information all along was that it would be affective at reducing the likelihood of contracting the virus and almost 100% effective at keeping one out of the ICU or morgue if they do still contract it. Nothing in life is 100% and this whole virus was something we very much learned as we went along. Not all that different than hunting. We're all better hunters now than the first day we walked into the woods, because we learned.
  2. I think we'd all agree there is no hard and fast rule. I once fell asleep on a warm spring morning in mississippi. I had basically called the morning a bust and when I awoke around 11 I had 2 birds at my decoy and I hadn't moved or even called in an hour plus. I think we'd all also agree that the more tools and tricks you have to hunt these birds, the more prepared you'll be for what they throw back at you, especially when you start to think about how things change on windy, rainy or foggy days vs a bright beam of sun day. So many variables and styles to be successful.
  3. I carry a blind/shield deal like that too. But I do like a spot or 2 where I can be shielded from weather or move a little easier.
  4. I usually go for middle of April to put in a blind or 2. I don't like turkey hunting out of a blind, but I do like 1 or 2 as "starter" spots. Anybody set them up earlier or later for any reason?
  5. I love this idea. If you don't mind me asking, what did it set you back?
  6. So I made some stops yesterday and my overall conclusion of fertilizer is just that I'm a bit early. Agway was all out, guy said he had 1 bag of some 45-0-0 but that it was bought. Country max looked like they were just that day taking pallets out of storage or off the truck, most still wrapped in plastic. Clerk said more over the next 2 weeks. Lowes actually has some 28-0-2 bags of scotts "green max" that will fit the bill, but only the small bags out, big bags still in the rafters. Still hundreds of bags so I can wait. I'm just nervous because the sprayer I was waiting to buy jumped $200 in price and the cultivator set I wanted is now out of stock. This economy is like none my 38 year old ass has ever seen and I hate to say it, but I think the sooner you buy stuff the less likely you are to be the one left without it, even if that means storing it for longer or possibly missing a spring sale.
  7. A lot of what you mentioned I don’t do and if I did or was tempted I wouldn’t hold high in my own personal memories. I hunt for the challenge 90% of the time. Running cameras and in particular cell cams to limit my impact on an area is something I’m ok with for deer. The instant notification doesn’t have much an impact on me because I’m not good enough to sneak up on a buck. Turkeys are easier to bushwhack. The whole point wasn’t the patterning while I wasn’t there, but the notifications while I was. The real time part is what I’m struggling with and just thought I’d post it to shoot the shit with you all and get some perspective and thoughts, that’s all. You know, less politics, more hunting discussions Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I also don’t roost them, and agree with you both that a hunter creates his or her own standards. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Is Sal A in the hospital, ICU or dead? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. took a beating this weekend on the bracket but made some real good money with live betting. I'm at 7 of 16 for sweet 16 lol 6 of 8 for elite 8 3 of 4 for final 4 (damn auburn) and championship and champion still in tact. I'm not winning my pool lol
  11. so the thermacell not withstanding, none of what you mentioned is new technology. That said, with regards to sporting I'm thinking more along the lines of a guy like me hunting 40 acres and getting pics at one end then run and gunning to that spot from my current setup. Pre cell cams that would never have been an option as you're not going to hear the birds from that far away and I think we'd all agree that a locator call is much more traditional. I'm not married to the sporting part of things just something that's in my head bouncing around.
  12. Eh I kinda look at live from the woods as just a nice long running thread where guys can post about what they’re doing outdoors without starting new threads, like a bunch of shed hunters have done, predator hunters etc. or if you’re doing general work in the woods that benefits all species. I don’t feel strongly about this and wouldn’t argue about it however it goes. But it’s the same suggestion I have for a politics thread. Just one good long running thread. We have done this with food and beer and smoking meats with great success idk… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I have some oldies too. This is war now, although I realize there’s little I can do even if he’s caught. But I’m going to do as others have said and do some decoys and put some up high. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. It’s a nice feature for stuff like that without marking up the woods. I used it for some spotty blood tracking too Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Locked my cams up. This time the bastard took the memory card. Sometime between February and yesterday. Why do people suck? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. yeah i hunt with my kids too and wouldn't feel bad about using them to improve the experience. hunting alone though I just don't know how I feel about it, I'm not sure it's sporting
  17. there are dozens upon dozens it's insane what I saw in the fall. But just like deer in the winter it should be interesting to see how they act in the spring haha. I'm surrounded by a few fields that i cannot hunt, so i'm hunting the edges but the birds are roosting in a particular area that i didn't have good access to until now.
  18. I ran cell cams in the fall for the first time this year. I'm hunting new property for turkey, just year 2 there and don't have a good feel for where the birds roost despite having a few close calls last year. I thought about turning the cams back on for the middle of April through the end of May, but I'm just not sure if I feel good about it, in particular if I get live shots while in the woods as running and gunning for turkey is very common and very different than deer. This isn't something I'd think I would do every year but more or less to learn this property a little better. I understand that legally the choice is mine, just wondering what y'all think.
  19. Had KY, UConn and Iowa knocked out of my sweet 16 already. So far my final 4 is in tact.
  20. It's funny because all I know is chip tunes. It's funny how vastly different a carb car vs a fuel injected car is.
  21. I did a soil test and that's what it calls for. I understand that it doesn't need to be an exact science and 88 pounds an acre of nitrogen tells me that if I can't get it, I'll still probably be just fine and I'm sure a 15-15-15 or similar wouldn't exactly kill my crop either. There is currently just a fallow field there now, I chose fusion because I wanted to plant clover and it's my understanding that both deer and turkey like chicory too. yeah that's exactly my fear right now. Will see what I can find this weekend. Buying 9 pound bags from Lowes at that price seems just stupid.
  22. It's 2021 until May 1st Plus Wolc's thread says "deer woods" which isn't where all of us spend our time
  23. i'm a youngen, I use OnX. Marks my spots without anyone knowing it haha
  24. no i will do that. I have time but i'm worried about shortages later so I'll check around this weekend.
