Proposed crossbow legislation for 2022
Five Seasons replied to nyslowhand's topic in CrossBow Hunting
I post porn? When and where? again with the personal insults Rob. I was generalizing new archery hunters, that's why I chose arbitrary ages (sorry if that's a big word I learned with my fancy degree). My reasons for not posting deer pics are my own, and I really don't care what you think of me and my money, my family or my opinions so I guess I just don't understand why the need to make it personal. If you want to make crossbow available all season long so a 14 year old girl can go archery hunting just say that and leave it at that. I guess I didn't realize soccer players developed strong upper bodies. I stand corrected again. man ya'll are sensitive. 100 lb. bow? What? lol -

so if I confused what you meant, why not just correct me instead of slinging insults? -

I chose 55 as it's generally the recommended weight for normal NY deer hunters. I guess we will agree to disagree on 55 being difficult for the average able bodied teen or adult. -

I was not the only one who read between the lines in your comment. If you didn't mean what it seemed you said, then no biggie. However 55 pounds is not difficult for any able bodied male or female above the age of 14. Period. For those that are elderly or disabled, we've covered that already. next. -
Oh that's the point, I WAS out there... but in a different spot. This spot is pretty swampy but tends to get active as the spring dries out. I'll be there next sit for sure, if anything just to switch it up. I'm like 0 for 3 with pissed off hens in my turkey career. I bring them in all angry and not once with a dude in tow.

Had a hen yelp back at me a few times early, otherwise quiet on this beautiful morning. Will be hunt #3 and the first without any gobbles if it holds. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So my point with the early compound compared to traditional is that traditional (outside of sustenance cultures) never really took off mainstream. They exist, they're there and they were there back in the 12th century. But they were hunting to survive, not how we hunt today in north america. -

I don't know a woman that can't pull back 55 pounds. Pretty sexists comment right there. And I know plenty of 16 year olds who can as well. You're saying they can hold a job, play sports, drive a car but can't pull 55 pounds? -

I've never had the patience but they're digging holes all over my orchard right now. Do you guys just setup on a hill and glass? Time of day? -
i think you can download the app and that would count as having your license on you. You'd be screwed if you shot a bird though without the tag.

Lets talk about tradition. Prior to the compound, those that were using traditional archery equipment for sport hunters were primarily native Americans right? And even then, it wasn't sport, it was for survival. The mountain men were all using rifles. IDK about you, but I'm a white European immigrant. Mostly Irish and Lithuanian. In the 70's/80's my grandfather and father and uncles started archery hunting. I believe they started with recurves, but didn't hunt with them and then very early compounds were the first bows they hunted with. That's 50 years of bowhunting history in my family. Now maybe some of you have relatives back to Daniel Boone, but I'm guessing they were market hunting game with rifles. Maybe some of you have Native American blood and for you tradition is different. But I'd be my 401k that the vast majority of this board have a tradition of archery that began with the compound. The renaissance era was Fred Bear. That's when it exploded to the modern culture we know of it today. That's what I mean when I say tradition. -

Why couldn't they use a compound? I wasn't born yet, but I'm not sure there were legions and armies of hunters with recurves. Nobody would argue that the recurve is exceptionally difficult to master and become effective with. But yes, it's always fair to point out that the crossbow crosses yet another line for "archery". So is the keeper of the line? Who decides? -

I have no issue with this. If using a crossbow is that important to someone that they'll spend the time and co-pay to get a note, even if fake then they can replace the man card in their wallet with their disability card -

Some would argue that a stick and iron sites are how one should learn. No different than learning addition and subtraction even if a calculator will do it for you. And I don't know who you're referencing with ipad's in blinds. That shit doesn't fly with my kids. remember -
I've tried it for 3 of the last 4 years and I agree that if you go for a fun camp weekend with a side of bear hunting you'll have a good time. Look up "honey pots". They're what most consider a legal gray area because they exceed the volume of lure but can't be eaten so it's not exactly bait.

exactly my "crusade" in a nutshell. Don't fully include them and you preserve the sport. No different than those of us who own a muzzleloader who otherwise would not. -
With the good weather this week my cucumbers, peppers, eggplant, lettuce, spinach and butternut is all in the ground. I forgot to start corn and zucchini so those went in the seed starters.

same here. absolutely not for youth though. give it to the youth and that's where the bow will die. -

That's your opinion, but in my case you're wrong. I hunt private land and a crossbow doesn't change anything for me. It has everything to do with the essence of the sport. But I don't think there's anyway I can convince you that this is the case, so I'll leave it there. -

Only bring that one in, because the same organization that want's full season inclusion, also wants the restrictions lifted. So I felt it was fare to bring it into the discussion. -
