Can't believe I'm agreeing with Shawn, but I've used both. Both work. I prefer the drop and I'm not a "fan boy". It's basically Chevy vs Ford. I stated my reasons before why I prefer the drop. I have no hate against the wb user. Btw, how do you hear your bow from several feet away? Jk jk

Whatever it is, I've never missed. He asked if I noticed a difference and I do. Even if I'm compensating for faults (I do bend at the waist) in my form I am 6 for 6 with bucks. I won't say any more on the subject. I answered his question with my answer. Not surprising to see "the experts" bashing it.

Pros and cons. I think we had a 10 pager on this in the off season. I left my wb for a trophy ridge drop away. Quieter and less fletch damage. I don't think you can go wrong either way though.
-
You might want to consider a climber. Putting stands up in the middle of the season, let alone approaching prime time will really reck that area.
-
Problem is that bucks like that can be pretty nocturnal until they start thinking with their other head.

Giant zit? Yummy.

My guess is 3.5. Sometimes I laugh at the aging thing. That's a shooter rack for 95% of hunters, so who cares? Haha. I guess it's fun to bs though
-
I'm not a real scent guy, but a big believer in getting in early, getting set and staying put. If anything just bring a drag and hang it. Chances are it'll be light soon enough and your approach will spook any deer in the vicinity, although I've found them 30 yards from me after getting in... Haha
-
Certainly 3.5 or older. I think I would put money on 4. But I don't know the feed, genetics and other deer taken from the area. Everyone here is guessing until grow shoots him and we can age him. Now get to it grow before this goes 7 pages.

can you offer an explaination to this picture?

He's the great white hunter. Knows it all, but won't post his pics. That's all you need to know about phade.

To say you don't care what other hunters do, and when a large majority of this forum is all about the youth hunt is baffling. I hear all about how important it is to get youth involved. Preserve the sport. But to not care about the guys just killing for fun? You not worrying about your peers who give the sport a bad image only puts your sport at risk. We are all very honed in on illegal activities. Blatantly obvious ethical issues should be a concern as well. To the others. when you guys shoot these deer... Do you leave the tag on the dead deer in the woods?
-
That's pretty hypocritical. It's not ok for horn hunters to criticize meat hunters, but any horn hunter is ego hunting? There's nothing wrong with not shooting any deer because you're selective, and there is nothing wrong with filling your tags if you need the meat. I will always try and wait for the big guy. The season is long. When the days get shorter you better believe I'm filling my freezer. I am at a point personally where I'm trying to pass 1.5's and would rather shoot a doe for the meat. I believe that horn hunters do have an obligation to shoot some doe as well in areas where balance is needed... If you're going to eat it.
-
What if people thought all hunters were like that? You wouldn't mind the stereotype?
-
we are a group of people with enough other people against us that those who are senseless killing are not helping our cause. You can nuisance hunt deer and eat them. Nuisance hunting doesn't mean you leave them to rot...
-
it's not that it shoots differently, but your sights are probably off a little. most of our stands are 25-30. Flatfooted from the ground my sight is off.
-
What if he dumps the whole deer but saves the ribs? And has stated he doesn't eat the meat or care about horns?
-
The forum is no different than my group of hunting buddies. We share stories, tactics, ask questions and tactics. Of course it's nice to share the big bucks. I rarely send pics of a doe to my friends, but always share the bucks... Even the small ones. 80% of the bucks I've killed have come after a doe has passed. I know a hunter who is frustrated that all he shoots is doe. He never waits to see what's behind her. Fill your freezer is totally cool with me as long as you're not complaining about not shooting big bucks. Seems most people hunt for their own reasons. That should be how it is.
-
As many said hunters should always hunt for themselves. I absolutely love venison. Just my wife and I alone went through 2 150+ bucks by the end of July last year. Fortunate to have many doe opportunities. So I like to wait till gun or mz to shoot the doe if needed, however I don't need 4 deer in the freezer because I don't need it. Then it just gets given away, which I suppose is fine but I'm eating the butcher fee. We end up giving away some anyhow. So I will wait on doe... And as a newer bow hunter my standards are lower than gun. The sport is just too hard not to take the shots you get.
-
Brown it's down. I do believe there is a group inbetween. Not necessarily shooting spike horns, but not passing 2.5's and some 1.5's plus will take some doe... But are looking for the big boys.

A few days isn't really "time off" haha. Try a ghilie suit. Never busted once in mine. Breaks up your silhouette. Good luck man.
-
Good idea. I would be a little concerned about noise though. We have some seats that fold back and are lockable. At least makes them stand the whole time
-
If it makes you feel any better I was in Mississippi last week and Atlanta now. They know it's deer season when they schedule these trips!

Check out antler insanity. GPS on your stand and real time weather and wind. Cabelas has an app that I think cost $5 that actually allows you to plot your approach trail. I will add that when I first got a bb years ago I started using it too much in the stand and one day was messing with it when I looked over and had a 4 followed by a tweener 8, 5 yards from me. Bow still on hook. Stood up and off they went. That was a big wake up call for me. Now with my iphone5 it stays in the pocket most of time with data off. Although i was bored one day recently and drained the battery. How the heck are you going to text or call for help with a dead phone? Lol.
