  1. Who said it was a him? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Maybe it was a doe? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Yeah. Was a freaking crime scene. Maybe went 30 yards, death roll and dead in less than 30s. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I don’t want to be that guy, but it’s highly unlikely he jumped the string enough for a complete miss. More likely the shot was a little off too, typically low at distance and jumping the string would have helped. In my experience it’s not great to shoot an alert deer, but it can be done. Just normally see it end in wounds, not a total miss. You got it next time! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. It worked for me yesterday lol, note the time stamps after pee Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Beautiful morning. Love fall colors Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. damn wolc, I'm sorry to hear that. My condolences to his family.
  8. I actually prefer the mesh for all types of stands. It stays dry, the squirrels don't chew up the foam and it's still pretty comfy. If it was a real long sit I guess I could bring a portable cushion. I've had some out over 5 years with no wear or tear on the mesh.
  9. So now that I'm home I can type this out. At the end of the day it was a good morning, not a snoozer by any means. So around 7:30 I hear what I think is a grunt about 50 to 60 yards SE of me, upwind. It's super quiet and I hear it again. I know that sound, but I'm honestly a little shocked. Over the next few minutes I hear at least another dozen short, what sound like tending grunts. They're a short and higher pitched, not the deep bull frog of a mature buck that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up. For the non-deer hunters think jake gobble over tom. I give a couple very short, non aggressive grunts on the tube thinking this lone buck might need to be coaxed my way. Anyhow, I'm for sure expecting to see a 1.5 or maybe 2.5 come through and I'm excited for the action regardless. Then some crashing starts and I can see a doe moving in and out of the thick cover. Now I'm really sort of taken aback. This is like full rut behavior. She's spooked, he's grunting and they're doing the dance. Finally she comes running north, and I mean running. She stops and he stays in the thick stuff at about 45 yards. It's here where I get a first look at his head gear. He is no 2.5. He's an easy 120, maybe 130 class buck. Que the knees shaking. Doe then does an about face at the corn/field edge and goes bolting back south actually down a run I have a lane to, but the buck has never left the cover. She's now gone and he's just chilling. In the thick stuff. I grunt some more, a little more aggressive. He couldn't care less lol. He turns to head east, not the direction of the doe and away from me. So I hail mary snort wheeze. He stops but then continues on. sigh. Around 8:15 my heart has settled and I'm thinking well that wasn't a bad hunt I guess. 3 deer and some cool action, despite the frustration of no shot at a shooter. Well who do we have here headed east towards me? Ole shooter buck again. fwiw he's #3 on the hit list but again a wall hanger for most. He gets to about 45 yards behind some brush, but with a scope I'd have taken the shot with a gun. He has a choice, go right on the run and probably broadside at 20 or go left. Well you know how this story ends and i watch him take a run to the left and skirt me at like 50-60. Again grunt and snort and he gives zero F's. Even rattled a bit when he got out of site. Fun morning. It's only 10/28, but frustrating none the less.

  11. From what I understand, post 50 that’s a thing for most people anyhow. I have to have a second scan because of something with the back of my eye. Might not be a candidate anyhow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Will write story later. Big bucks are frustrating! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Absolutely beautiful morning. Calm and frost in 8F. Lone doe around 7:30. So quiet you can hear a pin drop. I don’t know how you guys with glasses do it. I have had my contacts out for a week for a lasik evaluation and they keep fogging up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Cousin shot a nice 8 in 7j tonight. My cams have been quiet, but feeling good about a morning sit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I think most people combo the seek/chase phase. Pre-rut is what I'm after.
  16. we are for sure a week or so out from rut. But I've been more successful at hunting the chase and that's pretty much here. Also might be because it's hard for me to pass on a 2.5 sometimes lol.
  17. again, i know this is a wasted post because we don't have mods, but there is a separate political meme thread. It's not that hard guys.
  18. ah so you're one of those guys. haha jk man. Real hunting kicks off this weekend again, just busting balls.
  19. all areas of the state are different. I've had the little guys active for about 5-10 days now in 8F. That's a tell tale sign that the big guys are about ready, and right on cue as our halloween kickoff norm.
  20. interestingly enough they've been dead all morning. Cell cams are the worst. Sometimes you're seeing them blow up and kicking yourself, but in reality you should be happy to have action. And then if you're stuck in meetings it's nice because there's nothing going on lol. I should note my active hours have mostly been 7pm-10pm and then 4am-7am. To me that's a temp thing and also means they're getting closer and closer to those daylight hours. I should have also said #2 buck, not buck #2 in my earlier post. Another thing I would change if I bought the site lol. Stop locking the damn edit button lol.
  21. cameras blew up tonight. Chasing has started despite the heat, but even more so with the temps dropping now. Had buck #2 dogging a doe last night but early morning hours. Even had him at 6pm which blew my mind in these temps, but it happens. Now from like 7 on there are multiple bucks cruising and yours truly has a long ass day of meeting tomorrow. If you're in 8f or nearby I'd suggest you might want to get boots on the ground tomorrow morning.
  22. yeah I'm confused. All of NY has been able to deer hunt for a while now...
  23. the first 90 minutes of a morning on warm weeks is always still good hunting.
