The newer stuff can be lighter and wind/rain proof. Wool is where it’s at though and firstlite figured how to put a camo print on it. Rocking it right now lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Is hunting becoming a rich man's sport?

The cost of a tag to hunt turkey in 2 seasons, 3 season of deer including 2 bucks and multiple doe, bear in the fall, small game for most of the year and fish all year long for under $100 is not a big deal. Most guys spend more on batteries for their trail cams. Considering that all goes to conservation/enforcement helps even more. There was an interesting study done on the price of a duck stamp showing where it is inline with inflation and it's like sickeningly dirt cheap today compared to what the duck hunting community started it out as decades ago and of course even a small proposed increase and hunters lose their shit. -

ummm I'm not sure you're right here. At least I can't think of any of the active members who do this. -

I think board is a great example of the diversity of hunters and how success isn't unique to one group. There are guys here who haven't bough new camo, if at all in decades, they hunt out of cobbed up old blinds, I've seen a guy tape his broken rubber boots together. Hell, Dino makes all his stuff from scratch. Then you have guys running 7 cell cams, buying $30k tractors to make food plots and always into the latest greatest. Success has found both groups. Tech and money will never replace woodsmanship and "free time". However, and this is a big however. Land. If you don't have land or aren't close to good public land than yes that's where money for a lease or owning property does come into play. -
the boosters don't do anything against the new variants, but the new variants are much milder. My wife and I were pretty beat down with no energy for about 4 days. Never bad aches or pains, mild fever and sore throat and cough. Everyone is different though.

where one hunts depends on ones goals of the kind of deer one wants. something to consider

I freaking hate RSU's. I gave up so much when I left and baked a little of that into my signing bonus to account for it, but damn it's sick how they do that.

I've always said it and I stand buy it. The 10th or so through the 20th is the worst week or so of the season. Now people get them during this time and I'd have eaten my own words if I chose different stands, but it's this weekend and on when we should start seeing the boys hit the ground.

haha I have a powerstrip dedicated to hunting that I bring out this time a year. I have my boot warmer/dryer, hand warmer, heated socks and heated insoles all plugged in. I don't care what anyone thinks of me, if I'm comfortable, I'm in the woods longer and being in the woods is where one can kill deer. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07XTB71BR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07YC8CVWV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

yep, bought one last year and liked it so much I got one for my dad for christams. Cool thing too is that you can use them as a backup emergency phone charger if you bring a cable in your pack. A lot less noise, mess and waste than the disposable hand warmers.

I've gone through this a few times in my career and thankfully a lot of these big decisions happened during the fall or spring and there was nothing more valuable than sitting in the woods and pondering things over. I always felt that even if I wasn't directly thinking about it, my subconscious was. Just hit 2 years at my current company and role and I've never been happier. Good luck!

but it's very hard to know what a bear has been feeding on. You can't just be like "hey bear! what you been eating?" before dropping the hammer. I do know what you mean though. But guys who hunt bear in alaska will tell you it's hard to know if they've been eating fresh blueberrier or salmon carcasses.

ugh, warming up this weekend. low 60's tomorrow afternoon and 70's saturday. Might be a waste of a PM hunt tomorrow, but going to try it anyhow. Morning in the 40's on saturday should be good.

gotcha. I too am after a nice rug, but wouldn't discount the meat, especially the backstraps unless they tested positive, and yes I know you can cook it out, but I would still pass on that.
-
why? have you ever had it? You can get it tested pretty easily as well.

Been out of town for work for a few days and catching up. I'm amazed to still see a 3.5, if not 4.5 show up during shooting hours during the last few days, but the furry of activity I saw over the weekend has for sure slowed. This is what I normally come to expect this time of year, but I've killed some very nice deer in the 20's of October, so excited for a few sits this weekend. Out of town another 2 weeks, including the first week of november which is a little heartbreaking. Maybe I'll score before that and it wont matter. good luck all. seems like it's been quiet for those who are out, but you just never know!

doesn't mean you don't shoot it if it walks buy. Anything tastes good if you make it into sausage. Plus, think of all that bear grease!

Same boat I’m in. Couldn’t be happier. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Had football from 8 till 5 yesterday. Oldest made the playoffs but the youngest 2 are done with flag. What a super crisp morning. Wouldn’t trade football with the boys for anything but 2 shooters sparing including target buck #1 at 9am by one stand and another 2 yearling bucks with them. Phenomenal early daylight sightings is really messing with my head. On a plane now for work so they’ll have to wait till this weekend haha. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I don’t know about the rest of the state but man it’s windy in Monroe. I couldn’t hunt tonight anyhow, but may have given it a pass anyhow. I know it’s still super early but I again chose wrong this AM and had a different target buck show up again at the stand I’m leaving along till the rut lol. My only consolation is that depending on how he approached he would have been directly downwind and likely would have been busted with those winds. But if he took the run from the east it would have been a nice broadside shot… he showed up again tonight lol. I guess I can’t be upset at the daylight sightings already but I am starting to think we are going to have an early rut and I’m on the road the first week of November with my rutcation planned the week after…. Do you get gobbles? I noticed only one very short gobble this AM among about 4 or 5 toms in the group. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
