  1. I agree luber, but I'm with moog. Not for me.
  2. yeah I guess I meant is that I wouldn't expect a yellow sign or orange flag to matter. Of course sight is a critical defense for them. Just thinking that when they find and establish bedding/sanctuary it's based on the terrain and the smell.
  3. I have no science to support this, but I'm not sure I could store my gun with the muzzle down. Just seems wrong and maybe that's because doing so in the field IS wrong... idk. Couldn't do it lol.
  4. My parents bought me one for christmas the year my oldest was born. I think it's a 12 gun field and stream and it's all I really need for durability. But when you tack on scopes and stuff, it's nowhere near 12 gun. I'd recommend you always get bigger than you think you need because you WILL get more guns and add things like important paperwork or shelves for ammo etc.
  5. I think there would be a benefit if you have a large parcel and hunting group. Otherwise deer adapt with their nose, not so much their eyes.
  6. I think it depends on what you're asking "why" about. And I've experienced and read the exact opposite with some of my younger staff. They're more challenging and less likely to accept "because it's always been that way" or "we've always done it that way".
  7. i had 2 stop losses hit. I'm ok with that. Everything else I'm letting ride.
  8. explains all the news coverage over the scandalous and nefarious firehouses we read about weekly.
  9. I do believe they were at the bottom haha exactly. Everytime I've been it was with a friend Yeah the episode itself was a little dull, but I loved the emotion he showed. As someone who has lost both his grandfathers and both were such a big influence in my love of the outdoors, it home.
  10. you have to make the best of winter. If you have a snowmobile, like to ski etc. If you don't embrace the shit that is upstate NY winter then you're destined to be miserable.
  11. i've been after ducks a few times with friends that have the gear. It's always seemed like a form of hunting that had a higher barrier of entry then others. A dog, a boat, decoys. I understand you don't need a combination or any of those 3 to be successful, but they sure don't hurt.
  12. My wife's family is here and so is mine. Heck we left and came back because of them. Now with 3 kids under the age of 8 I'm sure it's clear that our roots are set... yet you never know what the future brings. I see 2 paths for me. A home in VA/NC/SC/TN/GA or a winter home somewhere further south in addition to the home in NY. Over the last 3 years the wife and I were lucky enough to take a winter trip somewhere warm. That 3-5 days in the sun seemed to do the trick, but we didn't get that this year and this latest spell has been a doozy on the moral.
  13. amazing deer, and great work wny. Thanks for sharing, this is the motivation we all need to get us through the long cold winter.
  14. i'm sure they do, but if I ever lose the excitement when a nice shooter, let alone a buck like that steps out then that's the day I call it quits. If that deer doesn't make your heart beat out of your chest and your knees wobble then you've got icewater running through your veins.
  15. 100. Lot of old men that aren't affected by this have their wives panties in a bunch, and those that are actually impacted couldn't care less. The issue of women's sports is separate in my opinion and it seems many of us agree that a woman playing in a men's league is not the same as a man playing in a women's league. If it wasn't, we wouldn't have men's and women's sports in the first place.
  16. even in snow shoes I hardly made it very far. I'm in pretty good shape and my quads were burning. Nothing but birds and some deer tracks in that deep snow. Unless we get a good melt, I'm not sure I'll get a good crack at the squirrels this year. Spent the good weather doing deer season prep and sorta bummed that the season ends next weekend.
  17. steve's tasty scale was pretty awesome. That looked like a ton of fun.
  18. Channeling my inner Jeremiah Johnson and giving my quads a beating. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. 2 episodes in. Not their best but still a good watch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. i have the cabelas vest with the kickstand. It's not perfect, but eliminates the need for a nice tree to sit under. I will say I liked some of the pockets better in my older $50 vest I got from gander, but the kickstand still passes.
  21. exactly, it's there for demographic stuff. For example, they're trying to push a narrative that African Americans don't have the same level of access to the vaccine, when in fact there is multiple studies out there that show culturally they're just less willing to BE vaccinated. But of course, someone wants to make a victim where one doesn't exist.
