I live in Broome Co. and was awaken this morning(1:30 am) with a recorded phone messsage telling me that there was a mandatory evacuation for all low land homes in the Town of Windsor that are along streams and the river.I live on top of a mountain and have been here for 33 years and have never had any water problems. Right now I have 2 ins. of water in my cellar and my roof is leaking around my chimney from all the rain. I had a new roof put on 5 years a go.There so much water in the ground that there is no place for it to go but down hill. I feel so sorry for the people down low. May god be with them.

Ny feral hogs in the national news
noodle one replied to 132 eight pointer's topic in General Chit Chat
I for one will shoot and let laid everyone I see. First the coyote and now wild hogs. and everybody is asking where the deer have gone. I have no use for them. all they do is create problems. -
What kind of oak tree? If they are out in the open and you fertilize them , they will produce more acorns than any other oaks you have.I don't care what you put in your food plot, the deer will go to acorns in the fall before any thing else.Do not cut them down.

Premade Shed for Quad advice?
noodle one replied to UpStateRedNeck's topic in ATV's , UTV's, Dirtbikes & Snowmobiles
I am building a shed out back now. Before I started I looked at a lot of premade sheds and was not happy with what I saw. They are built very cheap, and cost alot for what you get. I am putting a 16 x20 shed with log siding. and alot of treated lumber because I had to put it on posts. It also has 16' ft Polynesian truss ( gable roof) it has a 9' ft. garage door plus two windows (24" x36") I had to hirer a guy to come in with a post hole digger to do the holes (20 holes) and I hirer a carpenter who worked by the hour and let me work with him.I am almost done with putting the log siding on. I have done this for $10,000.00 . A premade shed of that size will cost you 7 or 8. and I have what I want and am very happy with it. I also had a friend wire it for me for his labor. You already have the pad and if its level you have it made. You can knock off $4,000 right there. All you have to do is ask around and you can find good people who work on the side (weekends and evening.) Do not hirer a contractor because your cost will double. they come in and put it up fast ,but cost more. Hiring someone who works on the side take a little longer and will let you work with him will save you a lot of money. I also got a used garage door for half the money installed. All you have to do is ask. No madder what you put in ,your taxs are going to go up, so you might as well get what you want and be happy with. Sheds are never big enough so put one in as big as you can. good luck. -
I go up in the spring for steelhead, I center pin so I use a 13 foot noodle rod for float fishing. I am not big on salmon fishing. I am not into fly fishing so I can not say what the best wt. rod would be. Good luck and tight lines.

I for one will tell you that there is a Ml in western Broome co. near Deposit. I saw this Ml only one time about 30 yards from me walking up a trail with a squirrel or some other small rodent in it's mouth. When I said something to the land owner about it , he told that me they have known that there was one around for years. He also told me that there is a trapper who traps coyote and bob cat on his land(600 arces)who has seen tracks on the mountain and when he would tell people that there was a ML around ,no one would believe him. He also told me of a farmer down the road from his land, who saw one take down a fawn one spring morning. This was 5 or 6 years ago. He and the others don't tell anyone about the ML because no one believes that there is one around. I will tell you that I believe because I saw it. I am 67 years old and have hunted my hole life and I know what a house cat looks like, I know what a bob cat looks like and I know what a ML looks like, because I have seen all three in the wild. In the last year I have heard of two sighting near my home and I for one believe that the people who saw it had seen a ML. My life has always been around hunting and I am not talking about just a few days a year, but weeks on end. Every day for weeks, year round. So if you don't believe then that is your lose to be so closed minded.

For all our retired mambers

I love it. -
If there is anyone on here that is in contract with one of the higher people in the DEC, Maybe they could suggest to that person that the DEC could set up a question and answer section on the DEC WEB SITE about matters in the law that are in gray areas about hunting and fishing, I posted a question on here and others sites about fishing with scented plastic lures in artificial only area and have not gotten an answer that I can be sure of. If you ask two differ DEC law officers you get two differ answers. If we can get something started on here and some people start asking the DEC to have a question and answer section on the laws that would come from the top , then it would help us all. What do you think? Thanks, noodle one

I fish the West Branch Delaware for browns and rainbows. All my fish are C/R. I have been looking at some runs and pools in the artifical only area that I would like to fish. I have used plastic worms with some success and would like to try some other soft rubberized plastic life like lures made by Gulp that come in scented liquid. I would like to know if it is legal to use lures at are package in scented liquid? If anyone knows for sure the answer I would appreciate any help. Thanks, noodle one

In the last week and a half I have caught three rainbows in the west branch. That can only mean that the water is warming up down below Hales Eddy. The rainbows are moving up stream to find cooler water. I love it went they move up because they are a very exciting fish to hook up on. There runs are so mush faster than browns and when hooking up on one with light tackle it can be some of the best fishing this time of the year.

Has anyone noticed the purplish blue triangular that are 18 to 24 ins. long hanging along the roads here in NY and also in PA. ? I know they are some kind of bug trap, but what kind? If anyone knows I would like to know. Thanks ,noodle one

erussell, I know the exact area you are talking about. I have fished there many times. I like to float pink worms in the run just below the bridge. I have taking many big fish down through there in years pass. Rainbows and browns. This year I have not picked up one rainbow and the brown fishing is not what it has been in the pass. I don't know if it is because of the high water or the snot grass. I do know that rainbows don't like the water as cold as browns do. I know of a few places above there that always had big fish, but this year there are some ,but not as many as in the pass. I am 67 years old and have fished that river 45 plus years. I use to fish it every night after work for years long before people knew there were big trout in there. As I sit here writing this there a 31 in. 8 lbs. river brown that my son took out of the river about 7 or 8 years ago that is on the wall above my computer. That is the only fish that has been keep in many, many years. All the fish are C/R. My best fish so far this year was a 26 in brown male that I got early in the season. If you are down that way and see someone center pinning , be sure to say Hi. I am down there some place alot.

Went down to the Delaware this morning to do a little fishing with the center pin.I got there a little before 7 am and fished until 10 am. In that time I hooked up on 10 or 11 fish. I landed 4 , the biggest one being 16 ,17 ins. the others were 12 to 14 ins.. My float went down another doz. times that I missed. All were browns. All took bait. I C/R all the fish I catch, so I can go down another day and maybe catch them again.

I just returned from filling my truck up with gas. When I leave my house I can turn right for a ten (10) min ride to the station down off the hill to get gas there for $3.75.9, a gal.in NY State or I can turn left for a fifteen (15) min ride down Rt. 81 south to PA. to fill up at $3.59.9 a gal. . That is a $.16 cents difference. I would like to know what NY State is doing with that $.16 cents that is being paid for every gal. of gas. Maybe the station owners are pocketing some of it. I don't think New York State is using it for road work, because every time I make a trip on NY roads I am forever dodging pot holes. When I take a trip south into PA I not dodging pot holes and there is always crews out working on the roads. I know that by driving down into PA I am on an interstate and there fore drivering faster and using a little more gas, but I think it is worth it. I live in Broome Co. and I have always felt that the station owners keep the price artificiality high, because if I want to drive a half hour from my house there are a few stations that are $.08 or .10 cents cheaper than the other stations in Broome Co. New York State. When I ask why of the higher priced stations, the answer is always the same. Corp. headquarters set the price. Funny thing is that the lower priced stations are Corp. stations also. If someone on here can explain it to me I would appreciate it. Thanks, noodle one

Pygmy, I got the 22" iner on bait ,as I do most of the bigger fish I catch. This year has been a slow year fishing the Delaware. My best trout so far has been a 26" in. male I caught earlier this year. this year I had been catching one over 20" in. every 3 or 4 trips. In years pass I would catch 1 or 2 on every trip down. I am luckly to live only a half an hour away from the river.

I made a couple trips down to the Delaware river this weekend to do some center pinning for trout. Saturday I fished the border water (NY, PA) above Hancock and had a good day with browns and rainbow. Today I fished the west branch Delaware and on my very first float I hooked and landed a nice 22in.male brown. It was another hour before I started to get any more fish. I fished for another three hours and ended up with six more browns. (12 to 16 in.) I had many more hits, but could not set the hook. I live only an half hour away ,so I am thinking about another trip in the middle of the week. I would fish every day, but I also like to play golf. (decisions, decisions) and they told me that life would get easier when I retired.

I am looking for a reasonably priced one that will shoot accurately out to twenty five yards and with enough energy to take out rodents in my back yard, ( squirrels and chipmunks). I went to wally world and picked up a cheap one for $39.00 (BB, and .177 cal.) I am lucky if I can hit a can at 10 yards with it. I have tried everything I can think to get it to shoot straight and it is not working. Anyone know of an air gun they like and that shoots accurately and is reasonably priced. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, noodle one

Just letting everyone know that the pail of water with seeds works great. Every morning there are one or two chipmunks who have met their maker. When I look out now I see fewer and fewer chipmunks. Thanks again Cabin Fever for the great tip.
