HEY how about a CROSSBOW topic section???
noodle one replied to sits in trees's topic in CrossBow Hunting
I agree one hundred per cent (100%) Now would be the the time to get one started, because it won't be long before NY state opens it up for all seasons and it would help a lot people who want to get started. -
I have never hunted with a crossbow and have never own one, but I am all for hunting with them in all seasons. If it ever comes to pass I will be in line to get one. I have hunted for years with a bow and I am 68 years old and still can pull my bow back, but some morning I am lucky to pull myself out of bed let alone my bow. I am all for it.and will join to move it along.

First you have find out if something like what you have in mind is out there. You can do that on the computer to do the search. You have to know what you are looking for. There is a Gov. site, but I forget what the site name is.. You can always go to patent search and see what you find. No matter what you do in the end you will need a patent lawer.. Make sure he or she is a good patent lawer not some fly by night. First you should go to the lawer to consult about what you have in mind and if you can take something along to show what it is (prints) and what it can do or how it works all the better. You will need all your ducks in a row. If he or she thinks that you have something they will tell you up front. Most patent lawers have some kind of engineering back ground. Fee for this is some where around ( $200.00 to $250.00) up front. If you want to go on from there and hirer them to do a search it will cost between $5,000.00 to $6,000.00 up front to start. The search will take up to a year or more. The patent office will turn it down the first time and sent it back for a rewrite , another $1,000.00 to $3,000.00 for the rewrite. If you get a patent it will cost you between $10,000.00 to $12,000.00 for a US patent alone and if you want to go international it will cost more for each country.. If and when you get a patent there is a yearly upkeep cost of. $500.00 . Not all patents work and pay off.. It's a gamble. You have to sell it and that can be hard. Before you start ,you want to make sure you can make back the money you invested to get the patent first and than maybe make some money.Good luck to you . If you want to talk more about this , you can PM me through this site. I wish you all the luck in the world. noodle one

I was told this by a dec officer many years ago. You may want to check with the Dec before going out with both. You say that you could not find it in the reg book that we get when getting our hunting license., if you read the whole book the dec tells you that it is just general deception of the laws.and you need to go to their book to find all the laws for hunting and or fishing and there are many more than what is in the guide

Carring shot and slugs while hunting in New York State.is illegal. You can carry one or the other, but not both. Also I am not sure ,but I think hunting with buckshot in NY is also illegal.

Fishin Magician, If you want to know more about center pin fishing go to (salmoncrazy.com) and click on forums and there is alot of good infor there. You also can go to (center pin steelhead fishing youtube) and check out some videos showing how to fish with the center pin. Check out the casting videos. It takes a little time to learn. If you think you want to give it a try. There is no drag on center pin reels , you have to use your hand for the drag. A center pin reel is free wheeling forward and back. There is a clicker for transporting so the line dosn't come off. If you learn how to use one , you will do all of your stream fishing with it.You can use bait, jigs, and nymphs and some people even use small spinners with it. -

I have a pair of Walker Game Ears. They work good , sometimes to good. I got them for spring turkey hunting. The only think I don't like about them is they pick up all the back ground noise, like the highway that is two miles away.. -

The fish that I am holding is a ocean run steelhead that I caught in California last year. We go out every year to visit my son and his family. We fish everyday for 4 hours and have caught many steelhead. He lives only a half of mile from river. I also go north for steelhead on the salmon river for steelhead. I don't fish for salmon.I live one half hour from the West Branch Delaware and fish it for browns and rainbows.. I make one or two trips every week and have caught some real nice trout. I am into center pinning. Good fishing and tight lines to you. noodle one -

Welcome Fishin Magician ,giad to have you on board. What kind of fishing are you into? -
They want the seeds . Reason the squirrels eat a hole in them to get at the seeds.

Made a trip down to the West branch Delaware (NY-PA border water) to do a little winter trout fishing. The day was beautiful in the mid 40's . The flow was slow (only 385 cfp) and the water was crystal clear for this time of year.I was standing in water up to my knees and could still see the bottom of the river 20 yards out.knowing that if I could see that far out, than the fish could see me. I tried very thing I had with me, no luck. There were four others fishing that stretch of water with no hookups. Still a good day just to be out there. I will be going again if the river gets a little higher flow and some color.

Anyone do any steelhead fishing. I am thinking about making a trip up in a couple of weeks. I would like to see the water flow come down some, between 800 and 1200.

I found something that just made me sick. I had to run down to the store and on the way back I came over the back road to see if anything was moving. As I got to the top where it flattens out I saw a deer laying on the side of the road. Thinking that someone had hit it with a car I slowed down to have a look at it. It turned out to be a buck with the antlers cut off. I stopped to look it over and it looked like it had been shot in the hind quarter. The deer looked to be three and one half years old . Now this road is a dirt road with woods on both sides and some small openings. I know that there is some road hunting that goes on because there are only a few houses on it. The deer looked to have been there for two or three days. I hate road shooters . It is bad enough that they shoot from the road, but to kill a buck just for the antlers is just SICK,. What a waste .I wish I could find out who did this and hang them by the balls. It is one thing if someone feels they need the meat and shoots one and takes it to use to feed their family, that I can understand. I have read on other sites were this is happening by high shool kids for the thrill of it. This is just wrong and I hope who ever did this gets help fast. To kill something and let it lay for the thrill is one step away from killing another person.

I just got back from visiting my son and his family in CA. Had some great steelhead fishing and caught many fish in the 10 to 15 lbs. range. CA has two different strains of ocean run steelhead. one strain run on the small side (3 to 5 lbs.) and the other running (8 to 30 lbs. and some bigger.) In the river that we fished a 15 lbs. is a good fish. I wish that I could have stayed for another couple of weeks because the steelhead are moving in to do their spawning in Jan.and the King salmon are dieing off and will be gone by next week. My son is luckly because he lives a half of mile from the river and gets to fish it everyday. Well I gress I have to make some trips up to the Salmon river. It is good to be home.

I just want to wish everyone who are still out there, good luck. I am all packed and ready to head out to the West coast ( CA ) to visit my son and his family. My wife can't wait to see our two year old grandson ( he is a pisser) I want to see my grandson too, but I am also looking forward to do some ocean run steeelhead fishing. My son lives only one half mile from the American River, so my son and I fish every morning and take the family out the rest of the day.I won't be getting back till 12/20 and that's the last day, so, I am all done until next year. Good luck to all and be safe.

Burt, I could have told you that. Let me explain myself and how I came to learn about this first hand. This happens in the animal world more than people know. What happen to me is ,that I use to rise english setters for hunting birds. I had a very good female that was in heat and I wanted to have her breed so I could get a pup from her. I found a male that I wanted to breed her and the owner and I set it up. The day that I knew that she would stand I called the owner of the male and he came over with him. Well my bitch stood for his dog and we had a good coupling. I paid good money to this man and he also was to get a pup. Now besizes my english setters ,I also had a male German shorthair, (one of the smartest dogs I ever had). That afternoon my wife and I were going to town, so I told my wife that I was going put the setter in the cellar to be safe.. All the other dogs were locked up in their kennel runs. and I felt that everything was going to be ok.. When we got home two hours later the first thing I did was to walk out to the kennels and check my dogs. Guess who was missing. I walked around the house and could not find any way he could get in. I went inside and opened the cellar door and there they were at the bottom of the stairs locked up. He had got in through a small window that some how he broke the lock and by the way his rear end was moving he was very proud of himself. After getting them apart I called the Vet and told him what had happened and asked what I could do.He told that the worst thing that could happen would be that she would have two litters, and to just let her have them.He also told me that this happens in the animal world all the time and he used deer as an example along with many other animals. This was forty years ago that this happened. My setter did had (6) six of the most beautiful setter pups you would ever want to see.and she also had (6) six of the ugliests setter shorthair mix that I had ever seen.. I could not sell the setter pups because of the mix up and the owner of the male didn't want a pup. I gave them away. I keep one male setter for myself and he was a good hunter. The people that got the mixed pups said they were good dogs and I know one guy hunted his and said that she hunted good for him and he was happy to have her, but man was she ugly looking.

I hear what some of you are saying and telling him what he should have done, but he is caught in the middle. He is not happy with what his F I L did and needs to keep his wife happy to keep the piece in his house. He is in a tough spot.I wish him luck.
