  1. sweet old bill, I know the piece of water that you are talking about below the Rt. 17 bridge. It is excellent fishing and I have fished it many times. If you like to fish artifical or fly fish it is great water if you only want to C/R and not keep any fish. It is artifical lures only and C/R from the bridge, 1 point 8 miles down stream. I saw in the (New York Outdoor News) that NYS, DEC. is not going to outlaw felt waders, they feel that fisherman need to be educated on how to keep the soles of their waders clean, so as long as you are fishing in NYS you don't need to worry about it. If you fish in other states you will have to check with that state. I fish some in PA and I wear my felt waders down there and have not been stopped.
  2. With all the rain and high water the trout fishing has been real slow this spring. I have fished the river (West Branch Delaware) and some small streams. I have even gone down into PA and have found the same thing. The water is running high and fast and that makes for tough fishing. I have tried all kinds of bait and artificials lures. Some days I pick up one or two for a full day of fishing and some days not even a bite. I would like to know how everyone else is making out? Are any of you having any luck?
  3. Yesterday my son and his family came in from Calif. to visit and a week of steelhead and trout fishing. This morning we will be heading north to the Salmon River and some steelhead fishing. Today we plan on bank fishing ,stay over night to take a float trip down the river tomorrow (Thur.) We made the same trip last year and had a great time. All our fishing is C/R and all we bring back are great memories and pictures. I hope the same for this year. After that we will be making some day trips to the west branch Delaware for some big browns and rainbows. I am lucky because the west branch Delaware is only a half hour down the road. We hope to have many tight lines and C/R of fish. If not we will have good memories and a lot of fun trying. Good luck to all who are fishing and many tight lines. noodle one
  4. Burt, You must have been coming 81 north and saw the deer on what is called State Hospital Hill just east of Binghamton. They are there all the time. As far as turkeys go, I have not seen that many and have not heard any gobblers. Every one that I have talked to are saying the same thing, they are not seeing or hearing anything. I hope they get fired up soon.
  5. Scot, I fish the West Branch Delaware. There are some nice fish, (browns and rainbows) Sometimes if you are lucky you pick up 1 or 2 big ones. The fish in the west branch are suppose to be all wild fish ,because they do not stock it. I am petty sure that there are a few stocked fish in there because, most of the small streams that run into the Delaware are stocked. When you talk about native trout, are you talking about native brook trout, if so, the last time I caught one was many years ago and it was a stocked trout from a small stream just up the river from me. So if you are looking for native brooks, you will have go some place else.
  6. I had a friend who was a retired Marine Gunnery Sergeant who passed on a few years back. Every time he and I would get together ,we would talk about hunting and fishing. He was older than me and I liked talking to him because he had alot to offer. One spring, now I am talking many years ago (30 or more years). I had been out turkey hunting and stopped by his house to talk for a little bit. The first question he asked was , how did I make out? I told him that I had a good morning ,but I had forgotten my bug spray at home and was chased out of the woods by the little black gants after 15 min. of hunting. I told him that I had started a gobbler first thing and had him with in 75 yards of me and coming, gobbing his head off. I told him the bugs were eating me alive. I had to get up and leave him and the woods because I couldn't take all those little black gants feeding on me. He told that when he was in South Pacific jungles during the second world war, that they could not use any repellent because of the smell. He then told me that every day they were giving a frest lemon and had to eat it to keep the ticks and insects off of them. He told that it worked great and that he was never bitten as long as he ate a lemon. I was wondering if any one has ever heard of this or have tried lemons? I have though about it many times and about giving it a try, but I start thinking about the sour taste and just can't get myself to try it.When he told me about the lemons, he said that it wasn't all that bad ,once you get use to eating them.
  7. As long as we keep everything positive , this can turn into a very good discussion and from what I see we are off to a good start.
  8. I have been following a topic on this site that is very disturbing. I am on other hunting and or fishing sites. Some of the sites are better than others and some are going down hill because of a few individuals. We are in this together, if someone voices their opinoin and you don't agree with it, that is OK, but be positive with your reply and voice your opinoin and why. If you can not be positive, then don't reply. On the good sites that I am on , some one will voice their opinoin and if some one disagrees with them they say so and move on. Most of the replyes are positive and that is the way it should be. Not negative. If some wants to ask a question, there is some one out there willing to help. Then there is one site that I have been on for the last four years. When I first went on the site it was a great site. In the last year or year and a half that site has been going down hill because of all the BS and negative replyes. This all is being done by a few individuals. If they don't like the opinion of some one , they come down in a very negative way. If some one wants to ask a question, and they feel that you should figure it out on your own and not asking for help, so they will highjack your post. Fewer and fewer people are posting because of all the BS negative replyes. Come on people, let's be more positive and not negative. I can see this site headed in a negative way and we don't need that. We all need to think positive to make this a better site.
  9. Next week (April12) my son is coming in from CA. We will be heading up to the Salmon river on 13 and 14 for a float trip and hope we have as good luck as you have. I was out to CA. the first part of Dec. for two weeks and only got to fish six days out of the two week because of high water. I was talking to my son the other day and he told me that the steelhead fishing is all but over because of all the snow and rain in the mountains keeping the rivers in flood stage. We will be hitting the Salmon for steelhead for two days with our pins and then down to the Delaware west branch for some brown and rainbows. I hope we do as well as you. I can't wait to float some beads.
  10. That water is to small to be the Salmon River. What kind of outfit were you useing fly ,pin ,or spinning.
  11. Pygmy , any time you are headed down this way and are looking for a place to fish ,let me know and I can show a few spots. nyantler, I use to have my camera with me all the time, I have taken so many pictures of trout they all start to look the same. The fish today is not my best from the Delaware, I have taken a few in the 28" in. size. A little later on when the weather warms up , the fish average 18" to 22" in. , afew a little smaller and some a little bigger. The best fish taken out was three years ago when my son took one 31" ins. 8 lbs. I have hooked up on a few that where big and couldn't land them. In a week and a half ,my son is coming in from CA. to do some fishing and we are going up to the Salmon River for steelhead and big browns and I will have my camera with me then. If we have any luck I will show some pictures then. I am a C/R fisherman . I don't keep any thing unless it is bleeding. Today when I landed that one the other guys there could not believe that I released it. I think the reason I catch so many and good size is that I catch the same fish day after day.
  12. Went down to the Delaware River the first day of season fishing with bait with my pin and noodle rod. No bites, and no fish. The only thing I got that first day was a very wet and cold foot. First time wearing new pair of chest waders and the boot was leaking. Called Cabela's to order another pair. sending the leaking pair back for credit. This morning went back down wearing my old waders, and took my spinning outfit and some Rapala's. After two or three cast I got my first and only hook up of the morning. A nice brown male with a big hook jaw. I would guess 5 or 6 lbs. and 24" to 25" ins. I should have left then, because that was it for the morning. I stayed until noon and saw two other browns taken. Both of then were 15" to 16" ins and both of them were taken with Rapala's. Well tomorrow is another day to give it a try.
  13. that I enjoyed, real men, real hunters
  14. Muzzyloader, Good luck and many tight lines. I guess I am a fool because I am heading out in the next hour. I hear what you are saying about next week. I also am retired and know there are better days coming , but for today I am going to be the fool. Good luck again and many happy fishing days to you. noodle one

    April 1

I feel it is one of the best wild trout rivers on the east coast, if not the best. The good part about it , I live only a half hour away and I can fish it every day if I want.
  16. Who's going out tomorrow? I know I want too, but I don't know if I will. ??? I know they are calling for 2" to 4" ins. of snow over night and then rain and snow mix all day tomorrow, with temp's in the mid 30's. I will have wait and see what the morning brings. I know the west branch Delaware is running a little high, but fishable. I am retired , so I can wait and go later next week but I want to get out of this house and I don't want to make the trip up to the Salmon river. I need to get out and wet a line. :-[ In the morning I will make up my mind as to , if I want to be a fool or just think about it. What are you going to do? Just think about it or go out with the rest of the fools.

I fish the west branch Delaware river for big browns and rainbows. I float fish with a center pin and 13'6" noodle rod. The first part of the season I use bait , worms, meal worms ,wax worms, and salted minnows. When the first of May comes around I like to use trout beads and pink worms.
  18. > This morning I sat down to read the newspaper. I always read the viewpoint page because I like to read what other people are thinking. There in bold print ( THE PENNY HAS LASTED LONG PAST ITS PRIME) The penny has been around since 1793 and has out lived it's usefulness. He states that "It cost more than a penny to make a penny". He stated that most people don't want or use the coin anymore and throw them away or give them back at the store. Well let me tell you that I am not to proud to stop and pick one up and if you want to throw them away, you can throw them my way and I will take all you want to give me. :-\ We may not see the pennies we spend every day ,but we sent a lot of them. He stated that (the treasury should halt production of the penny, thereby saving millions of taxpayers dollars). Yes it will save the government millions not to produce the penny, but it will cost us as individual tax payers a lot more. I live in Broome Co. and the sales tax here is (8%) eight percent and if they do away with the penny they will need to round off the sales tax down to (5%) or up to (10%) which way do you think they will go. If they go the way. I am thinking . That $10,ooo car that used to cost you $800.oo sales tax is going to cost $200.oo more with the penny gone. Think about how much you pay out in sales tax everyday and then add (2%) more and them tell me how much we would be saving. What do you think?
  19. Out this morning clearing the frost off my truck and heard a robbin singing. Had to look for a while before I found him sitting a tree. the first of the year is always good to see and I know spring is not far behind. I also heard some geese and had to look hard to find them . They where flying way up high and headed north, also a good sign. I can't wait till trout and steelhead fishing. Come on spring.
  20. I was talking to a neighbor and friend of mine this morning and he was telling me that the logger he has working the lot out back of his house had been seeing a big 10 point bedding in the same area all last week. He knew the buck was there because he had pictures of him before season on his trail cam, but had not seen him during season. This morning he took a walk down to the area to see if he could see him. He jumped a big deer from it's bed , but could not see any antlers, so he walked over to the bed and there laid the buck's sheds . The bases where still red, so he must have dropped last night or this morning. Some guys have all the luck. I am going over to his house in a day or two to see them. He tells me that they are the biggest he has ever found.
  21. WNYBuckHunter If I am reading your post right, you think it is ok what the republicans are doing to this country and it's working. people. Do you know that if the republicans are successful in what they are trying to do, then you might as well hand them the key to the whole country because there will be only a one party system in the government and it will no longer the government of the people.
  22. SteveB, Yes, the higher income people and businesses pay higher taxs (dollar wise) but( percentage wise) no. The working people have no deductions other than their mortage interest on their one home. The rich and businesses have all kinds of deductions passed just for them and them only, making it so when they are done paying their taxs ,they are paying less on their income than the working man is paying on his income. The middle class is on the way out. They will tell you that they need the deductions so they can reinvest and make more jobs. Yes they do make more jobs , but not in this country. They move so they can get a bigger return on their dollars, not because of higher taxs and that is greed. They don't want more money to buy bigger and better things no, they want more money because more money is more power. Power is control and that is what they want. I know many business owners and they will you tell you that the way to beat the tax man is to start a cash and carry business. The rich and big businesses have many ways to hind their money. They do a lot of cash and carry. You can take that to the bank. Yes, I agree that there is alot of waste in the public sector and there some bad apples holding jobs, but there is good and bad in all walks of life. If you think that turning over all the public sector jobs to private business will make things better, you need to think about it some more, because it could get worse, just look at the PA prison system. Yes big business will tell you that they can do the work for less and will sign a contact saying so, but when a emergency comes up and calls for overtime, lookout because that breaks the contract and we will be paying through the nose. You think you are the sacred cow now, wait until that happens.
  23. I had to change my wording. They didn't like the way I used the rev--t word and what I had to say about the republicans.
  24. Here we go again. This scares the s#%t out of me. The republican state governors and legislators are telling the teachers and public employees that they need to give back to help balance their budgets while giving the rich and big businesses tax breaks. Not only do they want them to give back but also want to burst their unions. The republicans need to wake up and see what they are doing. I am a registered republican but I don't know for how long if they keep pushing this issue. I am all for capitalism and I think it is the best system in the world. But fair is fair. What is good for the goose should be good for the grander. If the republicans keep pushing the issue there could be a workers R-word that the republicans and this country will never be able to recover from and if that happens god help us all. What do you think?
  25. No , it is about politiics and the union bursting and workers rev--t
