I do enjoy fishing for steelhead and I am going to do more of it. The first part of Dec. the wife and I are heading west to Cal. to visit our son and him and I will be doing alot of steelhead fishing out there. We will be gone for three weeks. My son was my hunting partner before he moved west and that is one of the reasons for giving up hunting.. I do enjoy bow hunting very much and may still hunt with a bow,I have to wait and see what next year brings.

I have met a few city hunters and some of them are excellent hunters ,some of the others not so. I have also met many locals that are good to excellent hunters and then there are some that I don't want to be in the same woods when they are out. As to five shots, that happens sometimes.

With age, comes changes in life that we thought would never come about. When we were young and would hear others talk of this we would say to our selfs that will never happen to me. That day is here. When I was younger I lived to hunt and hunted to live. I loved every thing about it, and I couldn't get enough of it. When The last day of seasons came around, I would start thinking about next years and planning for it. I have decided to give up hunting as I now know it and start another way of hunting with a camera. I love the woods and seeing wildlife to much to give it up all together. I have been very lucky to have had the experience that I have had hunting. I have been able to take more game than anyone could ask for and I thank God for that. I have been thinking about doing this for a few years now. I can not remember the last time I took a doe, for the last fifteen or so years I have been saying that I was saving my doe tags for late ML season and then I would go out. and have then 15 or 20 yards and would let then walk because I enjoyed seeing then more than wanting to take one. Don't take me wrong, I have nothing against anyone that wants to hunt with gun or bow and enjoy the experience that comes with hunting and I wish all of then the best of luck. If anyone is interested I am going to make up a list of my guns and other hunting eguipment for sale and If anyone is looking for something, just ask and I will let you know if I have it.

SteveB, I know people that swear by it. If you go on other hunting sites and ask, people will tell you that they can't find anything better. Check out the PA hunting site and also Ohio.

I know that some people use a wood smoker on their clothes to cover the scent on them and it also covers human scent. What I would like to know if anyone has ever taken a wood smoker into the woods when hunting and letting it smoke. I know that smoke does not spook deer and I was wondering how it works.

wmig2, I would say that it is a fishercat, I see you live in Broome county . I also live in Broome Co. and have seen a half doz fishers in the last ten years.

I remember when on opening day you couldn't shoot until 9:00 am , the reason was to give the farmer time to finish milking, so he could be in the woods to hunt.

I was down to the store this morning and ran into a friend of mine. I asked how his bow season was going? He told not to good because he wasn't seeing that many deer. I said that was hard to believe because I always would see deer anytime I was down that way. In back of his house is a deer haven. He told me that his part time neighor had sold it this pass spring to someone from Connecticut who was building a new home on other road . He had taken a walk down there in the spring and had seen new poster up on every other tree and had not know that it was sold to someone new. He found out that the people were there on the weekend ,so he took the time to look him up the following weekend and interduced himself.. His old neighor had given permission to hunt and build all the trees stand he wanted to and every year his old neightor told him every thing was good to go.He asked the new neightor if he could hunt and explained that he had been hunting there for ten years. The new neightor told him no and that he didn't want anyone on his land and he got down right rude with him. My friend said ok and thankyou. The weekend this new neightor came flying into his driveway and ran up to the door and started banging on it. When my friend open the door and before he could ask what he wanted, this guy wanted to know if the treestands on his land were his. and that he wanted then down now. My friend told him that yes he had put them in there years ago with permission from the old land owner. He told this guy that when he bought the land he also bought the tree stands and if he wanted them down he would have to take them down himself and closed the door. My friend told me if the guy had been decent about asking he would have said no problem and would have gone and taken them down., but he didn't have to put up with guys BS. He told me that no one is hunting there and he knows that the new owner dosn't hunt. Do you think he was right with what he did?

I just read on an other site were some 22 year old shot an other hunter in the face for huntiing their deer. The victim called the state police for help and told them, he was hiding in the woods from the shooter. When state police found him, he was bleeding from a wound to the face. When the police found the shooter and asked why he did it, he said he was upset because the victim was hunting their deer. This happen in PA.

arrow nocker, Did you go into their bedding area .If you did , how are you making out? I know that is were I go this time of year and see deer moving everyday. I am sure that if the swamp is were the does are bedding you will see more deer.
-
Hang in there. I have a spot that I hunt that is only one hundred yards from a small saw mill, the guy is always doing something with his air hammer, everyday this goes on and the deer are use to it. I have killed some nice bucks when his hammer is going bang, bang, bang. The deer are use to the sites and sounds going around you so don't give up.

Find the right 20 acres and hunt it, This time of year thats how much land the does needs. If there is food and good thick bedding they will be there and the bucks will come a calling. Forget about the wind , time of day or what ever , Hunt the doe and you will find bucks. Don,t be afraid to set up right in the does bedding area. Forget about all you have been told about not going into bedding areas and do it. I set up right in the middle and see deer everydayand I hunt on the ground. We as a hunter are always over thinking our selfs.

I have been reading on here were people have had some trouble shooting with the wrong pin at deer. When I first started using a peep site and pins boy my set up was the cat's meow (four pins) the boys were impressed. I had the same problems back then that some of you are having now. What pin? they are so close to the next one up or down,I hope I am using the right one. I hunted with four pins for three years and told myself no more..I don't hunt fields, I hunt in the woods and all my shots are 15 to 25 yards out and some a lot closer. I hunt with one pin only ,I set it for 20 yard and I know if the deer is in side of that 5 to 15 yards I have to hold a little low. From 20 to 28 yards I am dead on. I will not shoot over 25 yards. It is what works best for me. I hope this helps some of you out . Get to know what your bow can do with one pin. It is so simple and it works.

I got that setup last year in 20Ga . love it. Cheap scope, throw out and put good red dot on it.

I have been hunting on the ground for many years now and would not think of hunting out of a tree stand, When I first started bow huntiing 50 some years ago, I started on the ground for a few years with very little luck so I went to hunting out of home made treestands and started getting deer every year that way. After about ten years of hunting that way I told myself that it was to easy to kill deer from a treestand and time to go back to hunting on the ground. I made up my mind that if I was going to hunt on the ground I was going to have to find a way to be the best that I could be hunting on the ground. I have become what I think is pretty good at it. I have taken one or two bucks a years now for as long as I can remember back. All from the ground.

The tubing I have is for pulling stretches that I use before I start drawing my bow in early fall. I can set it so that it is like pulling 65 lbs. or less. As far as getting a new bow with less draw weight I don't want an other bow ,I love my bow. It is a High Country( carbon 4Runner)It is a very smooth shooting bow and I would not have any other but High Country. My bow is set at 55 lbs. I just can't take the cold like I use to. The mind says yes ,but the body says noway.when it cold out and I stiffen up. The tubing I have is lite and small so I can carry it in with no problem and pull it every 5 or 10 mins.
