We all know that turkeys will eat almost any thing. If it moves, grows ,or flies turkeys will eat it. After a successful hunt ,how many of you check the crop to see what they have been eating? I always check the crop because it sometimes helps me to know where to look for birds. Sometimes it is a mixed bag, other times it can be very helpful. Most of the birds that I have taken have had dandelion buds in their crops. So when I am hunting and find a good patch of dandelion flowers ,I keep that in mind for later on in the season when the birds can be hard to find. I know they grow along back dirt roads and fire trails and around some fields. It has helped me in the pass so I am always on the lookout for them. What is the strangest thing you have found?

When ever wearing chest waders you need to always wear a wading belt , most waist waders come with there own belt. I do a lot of fishing and have gone down a few times and have gotten my upper body wet , but only a little or no water in my waders. becasue I always wear a tight waist belt. The people that I can think of who think they don,t need to wear a belt would be duck hunters. So play it safe and always wear a wading belt when ever in water for duck hunting or fishing. A belt will keep water out and trap air in and help you float and it can save your life.

Great story, It's a good feeling when everything comes together after all the hard work.

Went out this morning to listen for any gobbling. My truck was covered with frost and it was snowing pretty good. I didn't check the temp, but it was cold. Went down to the corner store and picked up a coffee and then headed out to a spot that I wanted to listen from. Got there about 5:45 am and 5min later I heard the first gobble. Then two more started up,in all three gobblers.. The two only gobbled one time, the bird that gobbled first, gobbled a doz times off and on until 6:15 am. I was setting there listening and about 6:30 am a hen crossed the road behind my truck heading for the gobbler. , she was in no hurry just taking her time . the gobbler was a good three to four hundred yards away. I had seem this hen before so I knew there was a gobbler there ,but this is the first time that I heard him gobble. If he stayes there it should be a good bird to hunt the frist day.

Was out working in my yard this afternoon and heard a gobbler, he only gobbled once, but it was more than I have heard or seen all year. I use to see them in my back yard all the time. This is the first one that I have heard in two years. I know if he gobbled, then there must be hens around.

For the last six years I have been going out to California for steelhead fishing with my son. He has more turkey around his house than I see in a year around here at home. That is wild country out here with some great hunting .You name it and you can hunt it out there.

We kennel out our dog for the last six years.for three weeks a year. She is18 lbs. We supply all food and treats. All her shots have to be up to date. It cost $13.00 a day. You need to set up while in advance and they want to check out the kennel, they are like anything else, there are good ones and there are bad ones. It sounds like they are house dogs so they want to make sure they are kenneled inside with an outside run and if someone is there to walk them.

What a joke, the last of the great white hunters. They call it deer hunting ,it is more like deer shooting. It's like shooting deer in a zoo. Talk about canned hunts, well there it is at it's finest. It is a dumb, dumb show and make all hunters look stupid. If those guys had to go out in the real woods to hunt ,they would be lost without a bedroom window to look in. Shooting deer off someones back deck, I am surprised they didn't order coffe and donuts from the lady of the house. That is the first and last time I will watch that show. Please do not watch or support that show and maybe they will bring on a real hunting show.

I fish the West branch Delaware a lot and have been down two times so far this season and the action has been real slow. The water is to cold for good fishing. You have to put the bait right under their nose or they will not take it.There still is ice on the lakes and ponds that feed the river.Think about it, do you want to move from your bed on cold morning. The water is still green and the fish are not chasing. Give it another two weeks and it will pick up. I will be there two or three times a week then.

I didn't say I was shooting them, I just stated that I know people who do and I hope they kill all of them.

In season, out season ,still a dead coyote I know people who shoot them all year round. .

What is wrong with this country?
noodle one replied to noodle one's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
There can only be one true answer to my question and that would be GREED. It controls everything we buy or do, right down to the price we pay for our bread and milk. Congress is controlled by lobbyist who are controlled by greed. Wall street is controlled by greed. The price of gas is controlled by greed by oil co. and investors. Everyone wants more and more. Money, money is power and power is what they want. Look at the big banks and investment firms. Look back to four years ago to what happened and the banks and investment firms are at it agrain. It is like a snowball that starts at the top and rolls down hill getting bigger and faster as it goes until it hits a wall and that is going to happen, that you can bet on. There are people who give millions or more to get the people they want in control, so they can make more money, because we all know money is power. History repeats it self. Just look back to the late 1920's into the 30's and read up on how that started back then. We may not see it ,but our grandchildren will and it will happen if we don't put a stop to it. The sad part about it is some of us are letting it happen, because we are a part of the problem. Wake up people, we need to act now. -
Took A float trip on a drift boat on the Salmon river (3/27) . Had 18 hook ups and landed 12. 10 Steelhead and two browns. Most of the fish on beads under the pin( center pin). Had another 1/2 doz takes that I missed.. My two biggest (13 and 14 lbs.) all the rest (5 to 10 lbs.) Lost a BIG one that had a tail as big as a big mans hand. Had it on for a good 10 min before it broke off at the boat. All and all a great day. Can't wait until the next time.

Looks good. It should work, all it takes is a little movement -
Thanks for the heads up. I always fish the upper part from shore. and I carry 4 lbs and 6 lbs drennan fluoro all the time. I use beads alot and pick worms, all I have to do is find out what color they want. I center pin the west branch Delaware for browns and rowbows. If you want to catch fish there you have to go lite, sometimes as lite as 2 or 3lbs. leaders. Thanks again

I am getting things together for my once a year for steelhead fishing. trip north. It is 125 miles from my front door to were I go. Every year i have had someone goes with me , but this year I am making the trip alone. Do to work my brother inlaw can't get the time off. I will be heading up Tue 3/26 in the morning and will be shore fishing that day. The next day 3/27 I will be in a drift boat to float the river. I have done this for the last 7 or 8 years and have always had a great time. I use the same guide and he has always got me into some nice fish. I fish with a center pin and 13' ft noodle rod to float fish with. When I hook up the fun begins.

If she is just starting out , get her a single reed Quaker Boy. Real easy to learn on. You may need to cut it down a little.

Every time that I walked out of the house this morning the geese were flying high and headed north. This the frist day that I have heard or seen them flying this year. Always a good sign that spring is not far behind.

Just made a trip down to the store and on the way back I took the back road. to see if any thing was moving. Had a flock of gobbler's cross in front of me. There was a doz or so birds, half jakes and the others looked to be two year olds.Glad to see them ,because the last two seasons were real slow around here. It got the blood pumping.

I hope it warms up soon. I have a trip set up at the end of the month for steelhead fishing. Every year I take a drift boat trip with a guide on the Salmon river. It makes for a great day of fishing.
