Went up the back road to listen for any birds gobbling and heard two. The one bird gobbled for a good 45 min. If he gobble once, he gobble a hundred times. I got there at 6:00 am and he was already sounding off and this went on until 6:45 am before it ended. I left at 7:00 am and on the way down the hill I saw a lone hen headed for were he was sounding off. Everything is right on time for this time of the year. Another two week they should be ready to go.

I fished the West Branch Delaware river yesterday and I have never seen it as low as it is.. Places were you could not wade across in years pass are now a cake walk with the water only up to your knees. The Cannonville reservoir is down and if we don't get a lot of rain soon the river will be in trouble. I can for see a fish kill this summer. PA. a state that is big for trout stocking has cancelled many stocking in small streams and rivers because of low water levels. It looks like it is pay back time for the mild winter and no snow.It is not only the rivers and stream being low ,but some people will lose the water in there wells if we don,t get the much needed rain.

rob1114, I don't fly fish ,but I do live only (20) miles from the West Branch Delaware and I know that you will have a hard time finding any fly water as good as the Delaware. I have been going every day for the last week and a half and have been fishing the artificial only most of the time.and have been having some luck. The fishing has been tough because of the low flow and clear water. I have never seen the water so low and clear in over (30) years and I have been fishing it for (45) forty five years. What I am getting at is that while there I could see (20) twenty inch plus trout coming up for flies and that is going to be hard to beat. I wish you good luck and tight lines.

THE GREAT HEALTH CARE DEBATE..

18 Years ago My wife had a very bad stoke and when it happened the doctor said that she only had 30 hours to live. The doctor told me to picture an apple and think of it as my wifes brain and then cut the apple in half and that is what happen to my wifes brain.Well she made it through after a month and a half in the hospital and three months in rehab, and then two years of speech. When this happened my wife and I had very good jobs and ins. ,So the cost to us was very little out of pocket. Now I want to tell you about another stoke victim who was in rehab with my wife and was her room mate. This woman also had a very good job ( RN) and worked hard her whole life and she also had health Ins.. She worked for a very large and well known hospital and her husband worked construction for himself. Now you would think that with her being an (RN) and working for a hospital ,that she would have very good Ins. Guess again. The people at the rehab had told them that their Ins. would not cover her stay and her husband told her that they would have sell their home to cover the cost. All this poor woman did is cry day and night before they shipped her off to a nursing home. There are many people in the same boat and will lose everything if they become sick and have no Ins. That is why we need health Ins for everyone. There are many people out there who have worked hard their whole life and could not afford it , if it were not for Obamacare -

I feel that it is a good thing and something that has been needed for a long time. There are a lot of people who are less unfortunate. than others who have so much and have been very fortuate in there lifes and need to share. We as a people need to look at our selfs and say ,(BUT FOR THE GRACE OF GOD THERE GO I). -
Made a trip to the West Branch Delaware today and found that were I wanted to fish, the river bed is completely covered in snot grass. I have seem snot grass before, but not like this. This is not good for the fishery. I hope someone comes up with a way to get rid of it. I know that this is not the only river with it. This is a problem in all cold water fishery the world over. and they are working to find something that will work on it ,but is safe for the fish and people.

Early, I hear what you are saying,Cannonville is down and we are going to need a lot of rain to have a healthy fishery in the Delaware

Went down to Delaware to do a little trout fishing and never wet a line. I have never seen the river so low and clear. I checked the flow before going and I knew it was low (198 CFPS) ,but not as bad as I found it. There were people fishing all over the place and the only fish I saw caught were all small . Anything under 16"in. is small to me. I am going to give it a day or two and hope the people are gone and give it another try.

Good for your stepson . I am sure he will be talking about it for a while.

We fished on Tue the 27th. and yes I was useing my center pin. We were useing beads for bait. We fished the upper river down to Rt 28A bridge. The river is full of fish. We saw a lot of fish on beds. I wish that I lived closer to the river so I could fish it more offen. From my door to where I fish is 125 miles one way and at my age I hate the drive up and back for a few hours of fishing. The drive up isn't bad ,but the trip home is what gets to me when I have to make it all alone. I live only an half of hour from the West branch Delaware and have some great trout fishing and catch some nice browns and rainbows. I guess that I can't have it both ways.

Well, I got back from my float trip on the Salmon river . We had 18 hook ups and landed ten. One small brown and nine steelhead. Most were 5 to 8 lbs.. My brother iinlaw got one steelhead of 30"in., 9 or 10 lbs. I got lucky and hooked into one and landed that was over 30"in and was10lbs. or better. If you like to fish and want to have a great day on the water you may want to give a float trip a try.
-
Getting everything ready to head up to Pulaski to do some steelhead fishing tomorrow morning. I will be doing some shore fishing on Monday and than Tue morning I am going to do a float trip with a guide. The float trip is 6 to 7 hours long and I always have a good time. I done this for the last three years and it is the best way that I know of if you make only one trip a year. A guide can put you on fish and he knows what the fish are hitting. If you like to fish for steelhead,Salmon River is the place to go. noodle one

An early warm spring means more foliage and more foliage means better turkey hunting. You as the hunter can not see down through the woods as well as you like, but that also means that the gobbler can not see the hen that is making all the love calls and there for he has to come looking for you. The hunter has to be very still and hunt with he eyes only and the gobble will talk right in looking for the hen.

Do you know the difference is beween beer nuts and deer nuts..? Answer- Beer nuts are #1.69 PER BAG Deer nuts are below a buck.
-
Believe me the 243 WIN will. take down any deer or black bear that you see, If you hand load ,you want to load 105 gr. it will stop them in there tracks.

In the last few days I have started to see turkeys in some fields. This morning I saw 4 Toms with about 15 hens and the toms were showing off for the hens. This tells me that they are right on schedule. The month of March is the time for showing the girls who's boss and for the boss gobbler telling the other toms to move off. April is just around the corner and the boss will start breeding the hens and hopefully most of the hens will be breed by the first of May. If we have a dry and warm spring, then we should have a good turkey season. With a warm spring we should have some early forage and that makes for better turkey hunting. All we can do is hope.

Anyone counting the days to Ny trout opener (April 1) ? I know I am and can't wait to hit the West Branch Delaware.

This is a true story that happen back in the late 60's. I have fished the West Branch Delaware for years, long before word got out about what a great trout fishery the west branch was and is today. I was single them and not a care in the world. All I ever thought of back then was hunting and fishing. When one season would end, I couldn't wait until the next one started.I was big into trout fishing and loved every min. of it. As I sit here writing this ,I can look up at a beautiful river run 31"in brown trout that my son caught 6 years ago out of the same hole where the great fish called home. Back then I would get out of work at 3:30pm and head for the river every day and all weekends. I was a trout fishing nut. The only other people fishing it back then were all locals, no out of towner like today. Most days I had the river to myself. I never had to buy bait because I knew someone who had horses and put all there horse manure in a pile behind the barn and in 5min. I could drig all the worms I wanted. Small red worms were my go to bait back then. The hole that I fished alot back then ran for 70 to 80 yards long with it being 4 to 5 ft. deep. I have caught many trout in that hole with many in the 5 to 6 lbs. class back then and still do to this day. Back then I would never know what the flow was doing because there was no way to find out if they were lettiing water out or not. Some days I would find the river unfishable and on others you could walk across with no worries. Most days I find away to fish it. This hole that I was fishing was and still is wide and at the top of the hole there was a big rock half in the water and it was on the far side and hard to reach with lite fishing tackle that I used.I had good fishing every time I fished there and caught many trout there every time that I fished. The fishing was like that every day until 7:00 am. and them there would be a big splash like a beaver slapping his tail on the water over by the big rock and all the fish would shut off and no more catching any fish after that for the evening. It was like they all got lock jaw at the same time. It was time for the great fish to go on his feed.and all the other fish knew it. I mean this happen every evening at 7:00am and you could set your watch by it.This went on for weeks. One day I got down to the river to find that the water was prefect to make my attack to catch the great fish. I fished like I alway had and just waited for the splash that would tell me the great one was on the hunt. Right on time there was the splash that I had been waiting for all this time. Praying that the fishing gods were with me, I worked my way up and across to were I wanted to be to show him my offering. I had picked out a nice fat juicy red worm that I knew that it would take to get him. On my first cast I put it right in the honey hole and under the big rock it went. I felt him suck it in and I counted to ten and set the hook and the hole under the rock exploded to life. He ran the full 80 yards of the hole in seconds. and just rolled like all big browns do. I had the great fish and now all I had to do would be to land him and he would be mine. I fought him for a good 5 min. all the time standing in the same spot from were I first hooked him.He then make his move and make a run right at me. I had all I could do to pick up the line with him coming fast.. Within seconds there he was three feet in front of me. A river brown trout of a life time. We spotted each other at the same time and he was as surprised as I was, he turned on a dime and was gone with my hook ,line and fat juicy red worm never to be seen again. I knew the second that it happen that I should have gotten on shore the second I hooked him and maybe he would have been mine. Sitting here now and looking at the 31"in. brown that my son took out of the same hole I wonder if maybe some where back down the line they could be connected and like father to son ,we both have seem the great fish.
