  1. They cannot. They legally cannot remove the deer unless there is suspect cause either. Essentially they don’t need a warrant for entry- no super powers beyond that. Many of the eco s hunt and they’re at most going to ask why and/or make suggestions. No mortal fixes bad neighbors or access. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I think the polarity of hunting support is more present here than other states. Not able to back this by fact, just based on experiences where it seems folks are pro or against- not indifferent. I also feel the dec does a poor job regarding hunter support, education and visible association. This may not necessarily be a choice as they’re just another cog in the political machine. For our 400M in sportsman’s licenses provided- how much is reinvested into the activities or the game animals? When CWD takes off here it will be a crumbling foundation for deer and deer hunting. It’s not about being negative, the devils advocate or an Uber realist..... we are going the way of the dodo. What value do we contribute to those who don’t hunt? When are hunter portrayed as heroes? What outreach and interaction is there? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. We don’t have it- however no one knows how to manage it. Put Biologist Supreme thinks urine is the issue. Come on- why are elk and mulies dropping like flies out west? It doesn’t have much more than a toe in the door here now.... but it won’t be long. I totally agree w fsw posts too. Everything outdoors movie/show wise has the evil hunter and the good woods creatures. If you have kids that tone is non stop. I also got into a gun debate with the kids pediatrician in a rural area over her asking if there are guns in the home on the questionnaire. It’s us and them..... and many of us are worse than them. 4. The biggest uppercut I’ve heard lately was was with regard to the eminent spread of cwd. As the cdc does not recommend the human consumption of cwd positive meat- it is either a disease risk accepted or killing for sport. Being such a small portion of the population, we are sure to be socially crushed by the majority seeing it as recreational death. Hell, all the small buck killer threads on here have the hunter crying it’s all about the meat anyway, right? This nonconsumed peaceful animal shooting has social stature, let alone ethical, beyond what can be socially steered. Granted this is solely deer related but of that paramount big game species falls it all crumbles. Social media is cancer eating at this regardless. Whether it’s infighting, trophy relegation or some wounded animal, Speer killing, glock hunter crap.... it just sway the big crowd against the lesser. Game agencies have no clout or funding anymore. We are the forgotten revenue stream for all things biology/ecology in the outdoors. Buying a hunting license here gives you the same great feeling as voting republican in this state. It’s likely doomed. Those who feel it’s not are probably in denial of our gun laws and posting haneous kill pics on FB saying “it’s my right”. Get kids into the outdoors, not with some candy grab youth season but with the whole years worth of activities. Stop crying about the way things used to be and learn and embrace change. It’s a privilege that’s fleeting- embrace, enjoy, encourage. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I have a lone wolf hand climber up for grabs. $220 -best offer. Us made vintage. Belts are old- but intact. Super light and folds flat. Located near Darien lakes but travel wNY and can meet you. During the work day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Have a few bow sights - mbg as ascent, iq 4 pin and a cj dn3 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I remember a couple yrs back there was some thread a guy posted about taking his son hunting before he was of legal age and the wolves of this forum attacked him for being outside the law. I’m beyond baffled how many are now on the other side being okay with trespassing for their deer. Get the grease..... it’s time to cram hippos in crates. Wow Legal shooting hours and posting doesn’t matter to the majority..... but everything else does. Why do so many care about ARs, etc then if you just pick and choose what laws you’re going to follow? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. You’re a genius. Thanks for proving my points perfectly. The post above yours quoted here you mention a good taxidermist could fix that. Not only does that negate his contentment you praise but it also shows tines matter. The neighbors would not have the opportunity they have without our efforts and self control. FACT. Whether I get aggravated about that or not is my choice. Sort of like yours to post under the wrong quote or be your the period (regarding punctuation of course). You strike me as the kid who expects a gift because you went to some other kids birthday party. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Different neighbor; they’re actually a “hunt club” of sorts. One of the baiters. As for the one that is on here maybe he can let you know about the help and access I’ve given him. I gave a buck back to another neighbor this yr but did not allow them access (opening morning of gun, they’d tracked him 4-500 yards on a gut hit) to the line and wanted to continue into our bedding. Nope; especially knowing the nature of the shot, distance traveled and the little blood found. His perfect hit on a big buck was called bs from the get go and proven to be a 1 yo shot through the intestines. Yet another set of kill em all neighbors... guessing those of you who aren’t courting your friends and try to uptick the NY norm can see where my frustrations come from. Blaze orange skirted cheerleaders- roll call. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. What a great thread. In light of how neighbors hunt property lines or shoot whatever saying it’s their legal right ; I’d happily call Encon if there was proof or I caught them. For non-aggravating neighbors- get your deer. Before all of my fanfare and neighbors about to make hypocrites of themselves pour out of the wood work, I’d like to add some reference. One of the neighbors owns a 110ft wide swath and they hunt the hell out of it. 33yds wide (think about that). Legal? Yup. Let them retrieve a couple when they first got there and then a trend started. They had runners non stop. Easily with such a small property. We said no more as they had been in our brush looking for dead over and over. Huge pressure negating any safety value of what we pay taxes on. This also became a trend from farther/lesser shots knowing they’d be likely to get whatever back. Nope. Lines are lines. Try and build within 50 ft of a property line and you’ll need a variance. There is a simple, proper, answer to this thread stemming from kindergarten. Do onto others as you’d like them to do onto you. I’m not going where I don’t belong and won’t settle for someone’s different opinion. And yes, I’ve lived by these (both calling out trespassers and calling for access). It is what it is. 11. That last sentence is spot on whether it’s NY or places in the Midwest. Age is fickle thing and we really do not have a balanced age structure here in NY despite what some believe and say. I have seen bucks in the 130s in NY and near 160s in the Midwest that were 2years old. I have seen plenty mature deer that wouldn’t gross 100” too. While it helps tremendously, I beg to differ that you can raise them. Most deer travel miles and most folks in wNY cannot offer exclusive hazard free miles of ground (let alone meeting all of a deer’s season needs). I do have some friends and work in the hunting industry. A specific farm in illinois (~2700ac of deer heaven with a full time manager and bottomless budget) lost their #1 target buck to the 300ac neighbor and piles of others to the surrounding area. Deer do what deer do and they simply can’t be contained aside from fences. You’re 100% correct on pressure and neighbors though and that’s why NY has the sad deer age structure it does. 12. There are a few of the integrated range finder ones at the ata. There are also some rather cheap bow mounted range finders coming out being shown there as well Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  13. Mechanicals have a high likelihood of deflection...especially big ones, those at an angle or when a limited portion contacts something the rest does not. Reinventing my personal arrow setup for more weight and FOC to limit the occurrence. One of the first steps was going away from mechanicals. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  14. Not sure what the value is. Quartering away, the ideal whitetail archery shot, would have guts on the arrow but wipe out the “vitals” as well. There are just so many factors going into the “when and how” of tracking a simple solution will never be there. Experience, insight and post shot observation are key. Until that’s in play..lick and puke is perfectly acceptable. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  15. Surely a large part of it.... Bucks really don’t reach their potential in terms of growth where genetics are most likely to show capabilities. Looking at captive deer they’re all about genetics AND food. A 150” 2yo in Iowa isn’t just because mom and dad were of a certain pedigree. There are maps showing trophy buck regions overlapped with ag areas...there are ones with hunter density too but that’s where it stops. The Missouri deer podcast covered had a great episode a few months back where they discussed taking deer from one area to another and how after two breeding cycles they took on characteristics of the indigenous herd. Essentially, in my mind, the three locational characteristics of : age, genetics and food play a role...but balance is needed beyond what the north eastern us can offer. Genetics also placate to the environment(ie- Bergman’s principal) which weather and food dictate the majority of. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. Thanks for the feedback Jerry. Do you have good references for such intel? Feel free not to struggle with my posts until I can meet your stringent standards. In case you cannot look past my posts in the meanwhile; I’ll try post in children’s color books vernacular so your mom can explain to you what is being said. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  17. Hey man. The age comment was not toward you...just a general pet peeve that people say “mature for our area”.... that’s like saying the baby in the nursery that’s been there two weeks is an adult by relativity. Tough pic for age...id guess 3. For score I don’t think you’re off. Antlerinsanity is a free app with scoring as an FYI I’d guess tines, 4,7,8 beam 18, mass 17 =54x2 =108+16” spread ... so mid20s. Great job Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  18. Well... Let me start with a couple apologies. As stated when you personally contacted me prior to your reply thread, I am sincerely apologetic for the “tard” name calling. That was Immature and not proper. The second apology goes to myself for thinking any reply on here will have a positive outcome. This is not to be confused with me being anything less than “why?” with your choice, but it was YOUR choice. I clearly stated that earlier too. It’s ironic how everyone in “our” neighborhood, excluding those on the property I hunt, fingerpoints at each other for shooting everything. Wishing you all could get passed that or feeling like it’s a sin to pass young bucks or shoot does. I’m trying to have the strength you posted in not caring about what cant be controlled. The nonstop scouting and habitat improvement can not overcome area constraints and my hopes should be deflated to reality. My passions are misplaced hunting what and where I do. At least you appear to be legal in your approach unlike the baiters and trespassers around us, right? You can pick the deer you pull the trigger on but surely can’t pick your neighbors. It’s a shame my Encon buddies didn’t follow through. If the cheer squad on here hasn’t caught it yet; not much makes it around us and this is the first drama between us despite plenty of chit taking place all around. Not going to trudge in the mud further, call you out or make threats. You’re welcome for the intel on the buck(s). We all make mistakes. Live and learn as life goes on regardless. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  19. Bucks do not reach maturity until 4.5 years of age, regardless of where you live, what is/isn’t alive near you or what you just shot. Fact. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  20. If you know anyone dumping some moose meat get the tongue and nose. Dead serious. Think the best prime rib you haven’t had yet. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  22. A friend of a friend killed what would be the number two MO archery nontypical this hr. Not putting it in the books, though all legit and had the dnr there and asking him to share it. Publicity it bad. Giants live and fall around here every year...too many cheaters and idiots think lightning lives below such a cloud and problems begin. Bet that piece of public gets pounded like a run a way dog. Congrats to him. One and done Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  23. We had a nice buck, 3 this yr, living on the farm for most of his hours. He would occasionally jaunt to the south. Not a deer I planned to shoot this yr, especially because he had broke his g3 right after shedding. Nice deer for NY nonetheless. Passed him mid oct and felt great. Later that night the neighbor text saying he was in love with this curved brow buck that showed up on his cams. Ugh. It is what it is, my choice, wild deer....I get it. I tell him ironically I just passed that buck because he had a broken fine and fine of potential for next yr. he told me he probably couldn’t do that but was bummed he broke a tine but he was still a upper 120s 8 at this Pt. He ended up killing a random 2yo that he was all excited about a day or two later so I’m elated this deer should be safe. Doesn’t the jackass shoot him open day of gun with 6 of 9 points and a third of his beam broken off. Just a skull for the shed. Yup it’s legal and he was within this rights.... but what a tard. 24. Poachers are right up there with welfare fraud in NY. Sounds great, support it 100% but we haven’t even started the car for the road trip yet with what has to be done. Look at your local big buck contest and then ask around about the behavior of the folks on there. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
