DEC Proposes Potential Future "Holiday" Deer Hunt
dbHunterNY replied to CapDistPatriot's topic in Deer Hunting
Myself and a couple friends ride up to a bar. We buy at the least 30 gals of premium gas, each buy a couple beers and dinner. Maybe even some odds and ends like a stupidly expensive quart of injector oil. Our table easily spending over $200. Good season with a base and every table is full and you're waiting a for one...at the bar having that first drink. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk -

Integrity of stitching that holds the seat belt material together. Plus if you look the tether usually has belt overlapped and stitched along its length. When you get to the end the stitching is supposed to give which reduces the shock when your fall reaches the end of the tether length. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

DEC Proposes Potential Future "Holiday" Deer Hunt
dbHunterNY replied to CapDistPatriot's topic in Deer Hunting
I have reservations about how much it'll help. Not many bucks might have shed but they'll look like a big doe and will be picked out of any group of deer. Holidays are a busy time of year too. I already emailed them my opinions: First have both zones opening day of reg gun on Sunday and not Saturday. Church is late morning so dont bring it up. Get back prep day hunting get-togethers with family and friends. Leave week of Thanksgiving and that following weekend in reg season to maintain traditions. Make last day of reg gun the Sunday after Thanksgiving (lose 2 weeks from back end of gun season). Make late season for 2 weeks following reg gun. Annual season ends a week early with shortened gun season. Make first week of early season earn a buck bow/muzzleloader in WMU needing higher doe harvest. Early vs late doe harvest better for ecology and not wasting buck effort. Spending time w family and friends during Christmas and new years is important. If you havent filled freezer before then you need a hunting mentor not more time. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk -
I have 2 duplicate stan size large shootoff 4 finger releases; one blue/black/chrome and the other blacked out. I've come close to dropping them a few times with gloves. If that happens that crisp nice sear is junk. I've thought about getting their index trigger buckle strap release. Problem with normal index triggers is the sloppy trigger creep and break that's not crisp. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

What we've found being able to monitor herd the way we do on QDM co-ops is that you really have to hammer the doe population to get 1:1 ratio, which isnt even needed. 1:3 is still fine. Also found that you end up chasing every buck harvest with knocking down doe to try to keep things balance to 1:1. The deer population then ends up taking a hard dive in numbers. Food for thought. 2020 WNY Archery Academy is Finally Open!

It was actually a topographical error. I had a false start typing "academy", when I discovered my 6yr old wasn't still in bed. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk -

I hear they're already paying him off with promises of his parents mysteriously showing up with an elite ember. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk -
You owned an Axcel sight. Lol Newest soon to be primary hunting bow sporting a highend multipin slider Axcel/Truball sight. Primary hunting release has been a TRU Ball Beast 2. Unsure if I'm really sold on the handheld idea for hunting. The elite is setup for the stan though so that's the combo if I hunt with that bow. Customer service seems top notch. Bad experience with them? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

I guess its VT's take on the Ruby Red Kolsh. Regardless it's pretty damn good. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Serving on the elite is one continuous length of bcy. Sure we can if you're willing to except I've got a bowtech, an elite, a pse, a hoyt, a bear, and a bruin. Lol Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Only ball busting. It's great practice whether you follow rules or make stuff up as you go. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

IBO all unmarked yardage with no range finder. ASA you can straddle the stake or either foot touching. Oh man this could be a no contest! Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

I like to experiment. So far the I like the equal wraps on both sides. Always been a fan of tied around peep. I know it wont go anywhere but still. Piece of mind I guess. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

First 3 shots at 7:39pm. Early season usually means evening hunts. Lol hard to see even at 27.5 yrds off the back deck. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

the family farm is a doe factory as it's mostly hay/alfalfa fields that get cut later in the hay season. we've always limited doe harvest to keep good numbers of deer. for the past several years i've also run a qdm co-op that takes really good records and we even send in incisor teeth for aging on top of panel aging jawbones with one of the top deer biologists in the country included. i've experimented for even longer with doe harvest. if you want to minimize impact on the population you leave mature doe alone unless they seem underconditioned and ancient (8.5+ yrs old). those mature doe from 4.5 to 6.5 or so crank out more deer. shoot young doe 1.5 - 3.5 yr olds. just be sure to watch for button bucks. if you're a same stand often kind of hunter or have pretty small parcel it helps to keep the older doe directing traffic. deer attract other deer especially doe during the rut. take them early and only from the same areas easily accessed. my best buck spots i make a point to pressure the doe very little.

i use OnX. property owner records lag behind a bit but some property out this way changes hands multiple times a year. i have another county tax site link to verify that. borders seem to be very accurate and consistent with county tax maps. topo overlayed too. line distance tool is good to have and area shape tool maps out bedding or food plots or shooting lanes while on foot, etc.
