  1. Looks good. Did you cut some of the back off? I see a bottle it is sitting on and was wondering.

    Beer

Doing my part to make sure the beer thread stays ahead of the Jesus supported xbow thread. I swear just because he has the same birthday, I think he thinks he is him. Taking one for the team here. Don't get the taste like I thought, only in the aftertaste.
  3. She didn't go far but the shot was low and back( liver and stomach) at 40 yards so it should have gone through. Second shot was through and through and finished the job. It did as advertised but again I was expecting a different outcome. This is only the second deer I've shot with the muzzleloader so I don't have a ton of experience with the results but again the outcome wasn't what I had expected. I have a dozen of these bullets left and will use them but will look into others to see how they perform for comparison.
  4. I thought of this thread when I skinned my doe on Saturday morning. She was so cold and I didn't have a ton of time so I skinned and quartered her and went back up today Monday to debone and cut the rest. As I was skinning I realized I had not gotten a pass through on my first shot. Embedded on the opposite side up against the hide I found this little gem. It's a TC 240 grain XTP bullet/sabot. I'm impressed with the mushrooming but not impressed that it didn't go all the way through. Will experiment this off season with some others.
  5. Happy Birthday Wooly. Enjoy your day!!!
  6. Glad all is well. Jameson and Coke is good for stress along with many other cocktails. Cheers!!!

I'm a fan of brown ales so I grabbed this last night at my uncle's. I left him a Fat Tire to replace it. I am not a huge fan of most of the Sierra Nevada line up but a few have surprised me such as this one.
  8. I dig Harry Connick Jr's Christmas album but Frank Sinatra is my favorite. Just the carooner era sounds so good. Wish I had grown up back then and seen the Rat Pack in person.
  9. Congrats Rob and soon to be Mrs. Rob

My daughter made me this coaster for Christmas by gluing all the caps together. One of my favorite gifts.
  12. Again they are more the decorative piece than functional and yes I realize birch bark and the wood itself is flammable. Ill pick up some of the battery operated tea lights and the function will also be included. Was using what I had at the moment.

Saw 5 beans at Wegmans by me yesterday, a bunch of it too. Weird how some stores have certain things and others will never get it.
  14. Thank me later for this one. So we were camping in the Adirondacks this past August and we took the wives and kids to Lake Placid. Went into this 3 story store that had tons of hand made furniture and knick knacks. (Forgot the name of it though) Wives loved it and I got my idea in this store. It's too late for this year but keep it in mind for next year. You may want to cut the trees this year so they can season or dry some. Drilling wet wood is not fun. I borrowed a 1.5 inch Forstner drill bit from a friend and used my FIL's drill press. Also used his chop saw to cut the white birch to length. Used small tealight candles from the Dollar Store or craft store. Ribbon came from the Dollar Store as well. They came out more decorative than usable because it's wood and it will burn. I'm sure I could have found a sealant that was fire retardant or bought the flameless candles but didn't go that far. Feel free to copy the idea. I took one to work and the women asked me to make some for them and they'd pay me. I made some for them as gifts as well. They suggested selling them on ETSY. No clue what that is but will look it up sometime. Lastly, I didn't hot glue them together but you can. I used the ribbon you would use to tie onto a balloon to hold the three pieces together and then a one or two inch ribbon over the top to make it girly, I mean more decorative. Also did a few larger ones with 3 candles on top. No pics of them yet but will add tomorrow. Let me know if have any questions. Just cutting and drilling which is pretty easy so save the idea for next year. Materials needed: White birch at least 2 inches in width, balloon ribbon, or hot glue, and 1" or 2" decorative ribbon, chop saw, electric drill (cordless too wimpy) or drill press, 1.5" spade bit or Forstner bit and tealight candles.
  15. Thank you Grow for starting this thread. Merry Christmas to you and Mr. B and to everyone here. Enjoy your time with family and friends.
  16. This was lunch today at works Christmas party. Marinated grilled chicken, steak, corn, carrots, yellow squash, cauliflower, seasoned potatoes, fresh roll. Had meatballs, cheese and crackers, veggies and dip and hot apple crumble with a scoop of nilla ice cream for dessert. Nice spread. Won a bottle of wine and got a sweatshirt too. Also left early and got paid for full day.

Just finished making homemade Christmas gifts up in my FILs workshop instead of cutting up my doe. She can wait til tomorrow as she isn't going anywhere. All that work made me thirsty.

Just picked up the New Belgium Folly pack at Wegmans. Little tip I'm sure you know but, stay away from Wegmans right now, place is a ZOO. Too many choices there and needed a mixture for tomorrow night. No PA Tuxedo either. It's my "unicorn" as TF puts it.
  19. Thanks Fletch. It was a good fun season for me. Looking forward to next season already. You have a great Holiday as well and to everyone who read my journal I hope you enjoyed it. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!!!!
  20. There are only 23 eagles in that picture. How is someone supposed to tell you the sex of each one when there aren't the standard 24 birds for reference? I mean really, how dare you post up such insufficient evidence for our extensive debate here. I cant even see the eyes either
  21. Its an Ultratech and that's what I thought. The 3" overdraw put it in the wrong place. I knew it didn't look right or feel right so I removed it. I was fairly new to bow hunting then and was trying to learn on my own. Hell Im still new to all the technology but you cant learn unless you ask right. Thanks for the clarification.
  22. I shot feathers and aluminum arrows since I started bow hunting up until this year. I lost a few arrows last year , damage wise, and I was too cheap to go out and buy more. I switched to some carbons that my neighbor had lying around so I tuned my bow to them. They had regular vanes and worked well at the targets but I never got to shoot them at a deer this year. I'd love to go back to aluminum with feathers using a WB rest. I currently have a drop away rest on the bow. Let me ask you this, with the WB rest, don't the feathers get crushed down by the brushes? I received a WB along time ago and mounted it on my bow and tried to knock an arrow and all of the feathers were smooshed down in the WB style rest. I thought this would affect the draw and the flight so I changed it back off. Can you post a pic of what your set up looks like with an arrow knocked for reference for me? Ill try to find the one I have when I tested it.
  23. They look good. Wish I was closer as I could have given him 2 to do this year at that price.
