  1. Seems like everyone has at least one firearm that takes a magazine or has owned one at some point. I was recently searching the internet for extra magazines for a pistol and for a rifle I own. I had seen the pistol mag for sale back in November and I should have ordered it and the price was $27. Now the only one I can find is on eBay for $48. All other sites state "Temporarily out of stock". Doors anyone out there have a go to site you have used for hard to find magazines? Let us know who you use or have used, or if you just fell on dumb luck looking for that hard to find magazine. I found one for the rifle too and had to laugh at $100 price tag on Gunbroker.
  2. I heard about this last year I believe - The Tompkins County extended season correct? Where did you sign up for this? Will have to look into it for next year.

    Whitening skulls

Well I finally got my chit together and started doing a little more with the skull. The smell has subsided for now but it has been in the garage and it is not heated so it has been nice and cool. I also glued the nose bones back on and have to finish the upper section by squeezing them together and then glue them. I had a piece of wood laying around so I shot a few pictures. Not sure how I will mount yet but I'm still planning it out in my head. Anyways, here are some
  4. I can confirm this place does exist. I drive past the mountain it is on every time I head to my camp and again on the way home. As far as anything else about the place or the stories, I have no clue.
  5. http://binghamton.twcnews.com/content/785182/local-inventor-creates-grip-for-rifles--claims-it-s-legal-under-safe-act/ Not sure if anyone saw this but it came from the Binghamton area.Pretty cool if it works out for the inventor and all AR owners who might be interested.
  6. You call Holmes good on offense? Lol whAt joke he was. I am a die hard Jets fan and we lost a good coach and the Bills gained a good coach. The disaster that is the Jets was not all Red's fault, and more of Woody Johnson's fault. He is a rich idiot who does not deserve to own a team. Thank god he hired two consultants in looking for a new coach as he is clueless in all facets of business and football. Good luck Buffalo, you should at least make the playoffs once you get a QB.
  7. I found a package from 2009 earlier this past fall. Got lost in the shuffle like yours. Was vacuum sealed as well. Pulled it out to thaw and marinated for 2 days in fridge. Grilled it and the kids and I tore that venison up with no issues. You should be fine.
  8. Razor Dobbs is the guy. And Eddie we all know you watch Shockey to see Eva and not Jim. Its the same reason we watch too!!

    Whitening skulls

Ill have to take one of his off the fence and bury it and then cover it to see how it works. How long did you leave it in the ground and any prep work, skinning, scraping or just bury it hide, eyes and all?

    Whitening skulls

So Papist and jjb, when you bury the skull, I assume you leave the antlers sticking up out of the ground. Do you cover them at all? My FIL has about 4 skulls at his house in different stages just hanging on a fence and have been exposed so the antlers are bleaching from the sun and the critters got to a few of the points. Just curious how you proceed with your method. The shovel came in handy to deflect some heat downward. I was present the entire time but don't recommend my method. The heat really got it foaming up
  11. Happy Birthday Doc. Enjoy the day.

    Whitening skulls

So I rinsed the creme developer off today. I had set it in front of the heater for about an hour the other night and just kept it in the bin until tonight. It has turned mostly white but there is some yellow still showing. I think it might be grease but I'm not sure. I saw some dark matter in the brain cavity so I did some drilling and cutting on the back side to get access to it and scraped some more stuff out which I think is the source of the smell. There might be something in the sinus cavity too but it's like wet paper in there and it doesn't want to come out. I decided to let it dry tonight and probably the rest of the weekend. Then I will see where it is at smell wise and formulate a plan. It is looking better and I am not giving up. I took some pics while heating it. Ill post them up tomorrow along with some pics of it drying without the peroxide on it. I also bought some superglue to fix the nose bones as it was a younger deer and they broke off and separated. Don't care for the dipped skulls. The natural look is, well, more natural which adds to the presentation I am looking for. Nothing against them but just not for me.
  13. Happy New Year to everyone. Enjoy responsibly.

    Whitening skulls

Thanks guys. The link Wooly provided says it needs heat, not so much the sunlight. I have a mini electric jobby in the garage so I will give that a try. Tedious little project but it is a learning experience. Praying the stench goes away or it will live in the garage. Ill update in a few days with more pics.
  15. Happy Birthday Merlot. Enjoy a glass for me.
  16. So I am doing my own skull this year. What a PITA. I have done all the boiling and scraping, and re boiling, and then soaked in dawn and water for over a week to degreaser. Man does it still stink a touch. Now I am onto whitening. I bought some 40 volume creme developer stuff from Sally's awhile back and it has been on my backbench unopened. Says good for 3 years on the bottle. Anyways, I painted it on thick and have been re moisturizing it but it still looks yellow to me. This is the second day it has been on there. I want it WHITE. Any of you use the creme before? Should I wash it off and then reapply maybe to see if it will turn more white? Maybe mix it with water and let it soak? I'm afraid if I mix it, it will cut the power of the peroxide. Here are a few pics Any suggestions are appreciated.Thanks.
  17. Awesome pictures. Dad looks like Ralph Macchio (the karate kid) in the last picture.
  18. Crock pot it in French Onion soup mix until you can shred it with a fork. Then drain soup mix and add Jack Daniels BBQ sauce or KC Masterpiece brown sugar bbq sauce for pulled venison sandwiches. Grab some soft bakery rolls and enjoy. We also take the lower leg meat or stew meat and have it made into venison sticks, summer sausage, and kielbasa. Most butchers will take the meat in a Ziploc bag already frozen. You aren't guaranteed to get your own meat back but it sure is tasty. 4 or 5 of us put about 5 to 10 lbs each in and take it to them to add with pork and make up whatever.
  19. Thanks LT. I always enjoy the stories of others so I try to add as much detail as I can and make it interesting. Happy holidays to all.
  20. Happy Birthday Bubba and many more to come.
  21. Met a friend at my in laws this morning at 730am. My FIL came out and the 3 of us headed into the honey hole area. As we were walking in, a shot rang out above us. I think we may have bumped some deer to someone, just not sure who or where exactly. Hunted til 1130am with my friend. My FIL was walking around near us and at 10 am he shot a doe. At 1145, my friend and I hit a 100 acre spot he has hunted this year and I hunted last year. He bumped 2 going in. We both walked and I bumped one around 130. I saw him below me and he had a spike in his sights but the shot wasn't a clear one so he erred on the side of caution. We headed back to the honey hole for the afternoon hunt. Got settled in and started watching the area. At 4 pm I went to squat down to look at another area and I heard a twig snap. Busted! I got a quick look through the scope and it was a nice buck, at least a six, but he was out at least 110 to 120yds. Can't believe he saw me through the little opening. All is not lost. My streak continues in the honey hole, and that is the second nice buck I have seen down there on the last day of ML season. Next year will be a different story, now that I have a better idea where they are coming from. I will get there earlier in the afternoon and down farther from where I was to run into anything that may come by. Was a good day with good company, and an end to another good season.
  22. That is a great buck and your smile says it all. Congrats. I am starting to love the late season more and more each year.
  23. Good luck. I took it off too, hoping to get it done.

    4W Hancock

I hope no one shot him as it would be illegal. There is a 3pt on one side rule in place in 4W. I ran into two hunters on our property this year that shot a deer and it ran down hill onto our property. When I came up on them, they were surprised to see me and then I found out why. They had shot a spike. I informed them it was an illegal buck and the excuses started flowing. This is the third year for 4W to have the mandatory AR and I heard this, "well the points are longer than 3 inches". I followed them to the property line and continued my hunt. I now know where their cabin is and their treestands. I will be sure to hunt that area more closely to keep an eye on things. If it happens again, it will be reported. I am still questioning why I didn't take their info this year.
  25. Had a gas line blow on the explorer and a brake line too on the same day. What crap a$$ luck I have. I swear this black cloud follows me. Anyways, took a half day Friday and still didn't get it fixed so said screw it and will hunt this weekend. Went to my in laws Saturday morning. I had to shoot the ML as last year it shot low and I did not get out before the regular season to shoot it. I set up in the field and walked to the woods to make sure no one was out there. Set up at 50 and fired. Was 5 inches low. Brought the scope up 20 clicks. Fired another and was 3 inches low, but that was all me. Fired round three, and was 1 inch low but 3 inches right. Adjusted 12 clicks left and swabbed barrel so I could load round four. Shot and was perfect at 50. It was starting to snow some more so I reloaded and took a stroll up back. I then went on the 29 acres of the neighbor and cut tons of tracks, and spots where the deer were digging down in the snow and turning up the leaves. They are after the acorns. Did not see anything fresh nor a deer. Went out with my buddy this morning to his property. Was just us two so we drove to a few spots on the wheeler and pushed to each other. Saw 5 at the first spot but they saw my buddy and took off. Put up another 3 on the edge of the sanctuary so they were off limits. Hunted hard for 3 hours but no shots. I took Tuesday off for the last ditch effort. Going to hit the honey hole from last year and hope to get something. Can't wait to get back out. Oh and that POS explorer can wait til next weekend when hunting is over.
