Never had it myself but have heard that canning the meat is the best way. The only canned meat I've had has been Chef Boy R Dee and I can't say for sure it is meat that's in those raviolis.

I thought about wearing that same outfit today but it was a tad breezy. Seriously though - Nice work Rob

10.26.14 Was in the stand by 6:50am. As everyone else has pointed out, it was a tad on the windy side this morning. My ladder stand was squeaking and rocking so you know it was whipping. I saw zip from my stand location this morning and my buddy saw 3 but all out over 40 yards away. Decided to check out a few other spots from the road and saw this 8pt with a doe on the eastern slope of a hill out of the wind Here is a picture of the 9pt from the trail cam the other night: And here is our furry little friend: It is the same bear in both pics ] Having trouble with the video of the spike or 3pt buck I saw the other morning. I'll work on it and get it posted.

Yeah I am definitely the taxi. We have a week off and then indoor soccer starts up. Footskills on Sunday night and practices Tuesday and Thursday. Crazy, I tell ya. 10-25-14 I got up and made it to the in laws house at 635am. I am getting my gear from the trunk of the car and I hear footsteps behind me in the leaves. I turn around and there is a deer coming up the neighbor's driveway and into my in laws front yard. Was still dark so not sure what it was. Made it into stand by 640 and spooked one(first one this year impressively) who decided to blow twice. Climbed up and a few minutes later had one come down past the upper stand I was not in. Just after 7, a small doe was headed towards me and she stopped to feed 35 yards away. I was focused on her and had a spike or 3pt come strolling by at 15 yards and head right towards the Apple tree. He was in no hurry and did a complete circle around me and proceeded to feed with the small doe for the next hour and 45 minutes within 50 or 60 yards of me. I was loving the live decoys but no older siblings showed up. Got down around 930 as we had a game this morning. Boy did it warm up and the wind was obnoxious as always. Got out late, 430pm, but at least I got out. Had 1 doe too far for a shot right about 6:10pm and she was jumpy due to the wind and headed straight back into the deep woods. Going to head out with my buddy in the morning. Checked trail cam and we had a big black furry visitor last night at 723pm. Ill post up pics of the buck and bear tomorrow.

Happy birthday landtrac! Good luck this weekend.

Had a huge 9 or 10pt show up on the trail cam the last few nights around 8pm. Had a few smaller bucks show up as well. They are moving in the area, but all at night still. It's nice to see what is out there for sure but it can drive you crazy too. I can't get out during the week so I live for the weekend hunts, and they are too short due to all the chores I have on my list this year. I can get a quick morning hunt in tomorrow and then off to my son's soccer game at 1030. Got a few projects to work on and then a late afternoon/evening hunt. Should be nice and chilly in the morning as no clouds here tonight. Will post up again tomorrow. Btw - my daughter's modified girls soccer team played their last game tonight and won 17-0 to complete an undefeated season. Congrats to them for all the hard work they put in.

Congrats on a beautiful buck. -
Sounds like you are seeing a bunch while on stand. Hope your luck continues and you get a crack at that 9pt.

Dude that is a slob with a drop time to boot. Here's hoping you get acquainted with the new neighbor.

Super cool picture with the kittens in the background.

My Dad owned 33 acres in the town of Barker, just outside Whiskey Pint. He got the land when he was 21 in 1958 and sold it sometime in the late 80's. He personally took 3 bucks off the property while he owned it, but hunting was different back then. He took a 5pt, a decent 8pt, and a mid 130 class 10pt in 1979. There are some pics of the 10pt here: http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/13846-post-some-old-photos-of-yourself-and-deer/page-2 Post #38 Like PREDATE said, they don't get big by being stupid. Now my uncle's and grandfather also hunted his land and they took smaller bucks over the years, but the 10pt was the largest. The habitat out that way is good so I am sure there are some nice deer out there. Good luck to you guys and hope my story helped explain a little bit more about what the area produced in the years past.

What's the difference between the girls track team and a tribe of pygmies? The pygmies are a bunch of cunning runts! Seriously though, never been out there but good luck and be safe.

My buddy had same issue last year. D loop spun and when he hooked his release to it, the string rotated the wrong way preventing him from being able to look through the hole in the peep sight. Try twisting the loop, or the string and try it again during practice. May save you a trip to pro shop. Good luck.

You have a few more days to redeem yourself so stay at it. Use your downtime to practice, practice, practice. Good luck and rooting for you guys!!

Well windy wasn't the word for this morning, dang. It was downright nasty out there and then the frozen precipitation began. The deer were up and moving though, as soon as I climbed into the ladder stand. Saw one doe feeding 80 to 100 yards away. About 20 minutes later, I saw one deer run back into the woods about 40 yards behind me. My buddy was hunting with me this morning and he confirmed there were 3 doe. I saw another 2 doe @ 80 yards a little while later. My buddy saw another 4 deer cross behind his stand as well. We took a drive to another spot later in the morning but did not stop, just cruised by. Saw another 8 doe bedded down along the roads we travelled to get there. The wind had them moving at first light, and then they bedded down. Seeing deer at least, just not ready to squeeze the release just yet. Had several bucks and does on trail cam just hoping to see them during shooting light.

10.18.14 Had a crappy day and didn't get out until late today. It was 4 o clock when I made it to the edge of the field. I saw a black cat on the trail in front of me. It was walking my trail into the stand. It stopped 25 feet in front of me and I kept walking. I look to my right, and there 40 yards away is a coyote. It took off quickly and so did the cat. I believe I may have saved that cats life today. Was quite windy but I stuck it out until dark. Just before I got down I caught something running through the woods pretty fast. I think it was a deer as the wind was blowing straight from me to it. Back at it in the morning. Should be nice and chilly with flurries forecasted, but windy too again.

I took a doe a few years back that was limping. She was in a group of four does and she was struggling so I ended the suffering. She had a large bump on her left front hoof that swelled her leg up and it looked painful. I did the right thing back then and you did the right thing tonight. Not only are we hunters, we are human, so don't second guess yourself.

Nice double fellas. Way to get it done!!

Never heard of them but there are 11 reviews on Amazon and most are good. Good luck with your sales on CL and your decision on the purchase. Got anything good for sale on CL?

Nice doe Eddie. That will be some good eats. Nice buck too. He will slip up sooner or later so go get him.

Predate - I have a 7R tag, looking for a 7S if you were still considering it. Also, I threw away all my monopoly pieces but will save them for you. I have a medium fry too but my son would be mad if I gave that away to try and sweeten the deal.

Thanks Ants - good luck out there. 10.12.14 Had to wait up for my daughter Saturday night as she was babysitting and didn't get home til midnight. Needless to say when the alarm went off at 6, snooze was my friend, a couple of times. Ended up rolling out of bed at 635 so no stealth mode getting into the stand while it was dark. My only saving grace was the thick fog.I was in the stand by 7ish. Didn't hear any deer running away so that was good. Got settled in and just listened. The fog was super thick and the moisture was dripping off the trees. Almost sounded like it was raining. The leaves were damp but still crunchy so the squirrels and chipmunk were plenty loud. A slight breeze blew the fog out and I could finally watch some trails at a distance. Nothing moving. About 8am the fog blew back in so my hopes were for a little breeze again. About 8:15am I caught some movement. Two deer about 35 yards away. It ended up being the Mom and twins again that I have seen 3 out of 4 sits thus far. Mom came out first and walked into the woods from the field right to me at about 15 yards. She knew I was there again and did the head Bob but I looked away. She walked away and then came back, only to head past my other stand. The twins came following about 30 seconds after and followed her on the same runs, right past the other stand. Stayed out til around 10am and no other deer movement. Did not get out for the afternoon hunt, and never worked on the vehicle either. Drank some new beer (Shipyard - pumpkinhead) and watched football instead. Forgot to mention, my buddy shot a spike on Friday morning after not bow hunting for the last 9 years. Welcome back to bow hunting!!
