  2. Over $2000.00 and does nothing a regular crossbow does not do. Only thing it has over any other crossbow in the "cool" factor for marketing - and at 2 grand isn't going to flood the market.
  3. Welcome Rob - like your attitude.
  4. Yes you are - you want to deny them their choice of archery weapon because your perception is their way is easier than yours. At least 1/2 the compound bowhunters (a lot ) don't shoot more then a few arrows the week before and whatever deer they shoot at. I hunt with a recurve and it requires far more work to become and remain hunting proficient. By your reasoning, I would be justified in saying bow season should be limited to recurve/longbow because it is far more challenging and requires far more work then using a compond.
  5. My 8 year old nephew shoots a recurve - age has nothing to do with it. Pick your challange - for some a longbow, others a compound, others a crossbow. I choose recurve and care less what someone else chooses - unless they feel theirs is the only right one.
  6. Having another hunter in the field with a crossbow does not lesson what so ever challange you choose for yourself. I'm guessing you shoot a longbow because it is more of a challange then a compound?
  7. Key word is "reported" - nobody has ever put forth a single bit of hard evidence. Not even with 1000's of trail camera's out there.
  8. Thread at Archery talk is reporting this bill passed and is on the Gov's desk> http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/showthread.php?t=1249974
  9. You have to demonstrate economic loss - most often severe crop damage.
  10. I have 2 of the last 3 years.
  11. That's a great choice - let's leave it to the individual rather then mandate one veiw.
  12. NY is one of the safest states as far as hunting incidents are concerned. I don't see what a turkey incident has to do with AR - especially when the report comes from C.A.S.H. - comittee to abolish sport hunting.
  13. Great to see you Steve - glad you made it over.
  14. Works quick and perfect everytime. Keeps the chance of any cross contamination to zero when doing the job.
  15. You do not have to post to ask people to leave or have them charged - but it is easier to get a conviction if it is. Take a 10 ft stepladder in and put the signs higher then can be easily reached. You only have to post the corners and every 600ft ( I believe ) to meet the legal defination. If you can document that you have notified the club it would help. Send a certified letter they have to sign for. Since they claim to have notified the members, it should be no problem letting them know that zero tolerance is the rule, if that is what you want. Remember though with only 10 acres, chances are you are going to need to recover a deer eventually from one of the neighbors - work out the rules you all are comfortable with prior to needing them.
  16. You are right about the Northern zone. However, from the DEC website: •It is illegal to refuse to show your license on demand to a law enforcement officer or the owner, lessee or person in control of the lands (or their designees) while on their property.
  17. Compound - 350 FPS plus, scope, trigger, steady rests, up to 99% letoff (most are 80% plus),beats all crossbow scores at any IBO shoot where both shoot the same stakes. Lighter and far more manuverable then a crossbow and second shots are possible. Not even a distant cousin of the recurve and longbow. Does not belong in bow season - not realistic, so let all archery equipment reconized by every MAJOR archery organization in the bow season.
  18. Yep - always get their back tag - then called the DEC. I know the 2 local officers fairly well from helping with the bowhunter ed classes and just interacting any time I see them. Would not hurt to call them this summer as you settle in to the new place for a meet and greet - most appreciate extra eyes and ears.
  19. 1st few years where tough - tried 1 chance warnings with little success. Then increased the signs to 50 yds so there was no chance of mistakes and sent the next 4 to 5 to court. Word got around and we seldom have a problem now - still see tracks occasionally, but tolerable.
  20. Always in gun season as do most in NY. Our rate of compliance is actually higher then most states where it is mandatory. I have a 400 acre tract of stateland behind me and don't think I have ever seen a hunter there without some BO.
  21. Let it go. I freshen any scapes I see and they are always hit by the next day.
  22. Long download, but worth it. Best I've seen - it cut my time per deer way down.
  23. Live and hunt in Southern Cayuga County - 7j primarily. Lease, private and state land.
