    No excuses

The 460gr conical with 80 gr of Triple 7 out of my Whites kick no more then a saboted round half that wght with 100 to 120 - which is needed for to gain a flatter trajectory. And the lighter bullet sheds energy far faster - especially on impact. Shoot what you want.

Need has nothing to do with it. You can kill them with a 22 if you want.
  3. Here is an article that supports somewhat what BSH is saying. At least that shooting the best can have a negative effective. http://www.mississippigameandfish.com/hunting/whitetail-deer-hunting/ms_aa122902a/index.html
  4. Thanks Steve -looks the same for me in 7J.
  5. And the same old trolls jump in with the same old anti arguements that have been debunked every time they put them forth. Anyone who thinks either of these is what the bow season was about is simply kidding themselves.
  6. Point is obvious- letoff means easier to get and maintain proficiency. Recurve is far harder to get proficient, much less maintain it. Compound = easier. Recurve = harder. Therefore you are choosing to hunt an easier way, but wish to limit others wanting to use an easier way to bowhunt. Defending the long rich 40 year tradition of compounds and letoff - now available to 99% with 80% plus being common. There is nothing primitive about the current bowseason - it either should return to its real roots or allow all archery equipment in.
  7. I have attended the Denton Hills Traditional shoot at least 7 times where there are 4000 plus shooters and probably twice that many bows to view. Have not seen 2 handfuls of bows with sites. So why do you not still hunt with your recurve?
  8. Good shooting Steve! That "one last shot" is the one to bite you sometimes ;D
  9. They are as accurate as any state can be without spending huge amounts of money trying to do an actual physical count.
  10. I think it is a great idea. Would also like to see a simple 3 to 5 question poll required at time of renewal to gather real feedback from hunters.
  11. I was was refering to the clarifying peep site which is a magnifier - not the site itself which someone who has spent years shooting should easily understand. Ido know several who use both them and scopes as sites - most 2 to 4 power. Sites have been used on recurves for a long time, but the fact is they are much easier to use and far more effective to use on a compound then a recurve. Why? For one simple reason - letoff. One only has to look the fact 99% of compounds have them and 99% of recurves don't. Once again - there is a reason why fewer then 5% of those shooting arrows for hunting do it with a recurve/lb - it is far harder to become and maintain shooting proficiency. What is your reason Doc for hanging up the recurve? It's not because a compound is more challanging. If bowseason's where made recurve/compound only, then in a few years i would not be surprized if we lost far more then 1/2 our bowhunters. It wouldn't be because shooting recurves and compounds are equally difficult.
  12. Trespassers and poachers are already breaking the law - why would they wear BO when doing so?
  13. There are clarifier peeps - up to 8x. The letoff is what makes the use of sites so effective.
  14. And one is far, far easier to obtain and keep hunting proficiency with. Ignoring that does not make it go away. There is a reason why less then 5% of hunters in the bow season use traditional equipment. And it's not because they take the same commitment to be hunting proficient.
  15. I need to do this in a cut and paste for the uninformed. Crossbows have been around at least 2400 years - at least 1000 years before gunpowder and guns where invented. Guns use powder and go bang - bows are string powered. Pretty simple actually - or should be. By real bow, you mean a recurve or longbow? Or do you mean a 30" ata, up to 99% letoff, fall away rest, with a scope and magnafied peep, and a release with a trigger where your fingers never touch the string?
  16. Doesn't have bow in its name like crossBOW.
  17. Doesn't really matter - until the bill actually is law, not many will be getting one. And irregardless of the spin attempted by a few here, many/most who support them are not planningon getting one to hunt with. Maybe move the compound machine out of the bowhunting section as well? ;D
  18. Not good. Even worse then the "earn a buck" that I thought EAB stood for.
  19. The Parsons deer was about 10-12 miles from me. Few years back, there was a 180+ a few miles in the other direction. And we do it without a points based AR ;D

Doesn't matter out to 150 - or even further with practise and a range finder. And they pact a ton of energy with only a mz velocity of 1200 to 1400 fps. Site in about 2" high at 114 yds and you can hold dead on from 0 to 150yds. These are pure lead conicals - over 1400 fps and you may start leading the barrel.

I've used them out to 140 w/rangefinder. Lots under 100 - nothing like hearing the thwwaaak of a 460gr chunk of lead hitting the boiler room
  22. Blackberry - main phone. The landline is for an occasional fax only.
  23. My friend - a new local dealer for them - has been getting them for a month or more. Those who have shot them are impressed.
  24. Split - that's why I try to use age (voluntarily) - still a guess. In 7j and 7h nearly 60% of the 1.5's are 6pt or better. Allowing 6 pt's to be shot will have the effect of almost no increase in 3.5's. Education is the key - especially when the claim of over 60% supporting AR. If those 60% would walk the talk instead of paying it lip service, we would have AR. The other 40% can't kill all the 1.5 killed every year since the hunter sucess is less then 20%.
