  1. It looks like a fake picture, it it were real they would of gutted it and the bear wouldn't be so stiff and laying straight. It's head would be dragging the ground.
  2. Will you PM me your mailing address and price of tickets.
  3. I think most of the 20 gauge Ithaca model 66 single shot shotguns are modified choke, I'd pick up severl brands of slugs and try them all out and see which brand you gun shoots the best with. You'd be surprised the difference there is between brands in the exact same make & model of guns. I have two of the Ithaca model 66 20 gauge shotguns, one has a venilated rib and the other has a plain barrel, I also have two Ithaca model 66 shotguns in 410 gauge and they both have plain barrels. I've never shot slugs through them but wouldn't hesitate to put slugs through them and take them out to shoot a deer. I did use one of the 410s for deer hunting in Pennsylvania years ago for deer hunting and got one just because it was legal. It did the job of taking it down with no problem at all. Does your 20 gauge have rifle sights or does it have a plain barrel?
  4. My favorite hunting book is "Shots at Whitetails" by lawrence Koller. It isan older book and is available on E-bay, Amazon. Very informative book about deer hunting with most of it taking place from Windsor, NY down to the Catskill Area. It's worth every penny you spend on it, I've bought several of them to give to family & friends back there in New York. There isone story in his book where he shot a deer, I was hunting down in the Damascus NY area about twenty years ago and found the same situation that he wrote about. I retraced his foot-stepsand shot a nice eight point buck. I highly recommend this book if you hunt deer in the southern zone of New York.
  5. A guy out here in Washington State has a nice 30-30 Encore with a scope & bandileer for $650. I have a contender with a ten inch 22LR and a fourteen inch 45LC/410, I will be buying several other barrels when I get the extra cash.
  6. If you use a five gallon bucket you can get a bait lid for one on e bay, I used them for fishing down in Florida. Just punch in "5 gallon bait bucket lid" and hit search on e bay, they go from $4 to about $8. You can also get the smaller size bait buckets to put the frogs in until it's time to proccess them. The smaller ones are about a gallon size which you can find on e bay also.
  7. My last trip to Upstate New York I went to the Dinasour BBQ Resturaunt in Syracuse ith my oldest son and had an order of their Frog-Legs,I din't care for the thick breading they put on them, The ribs were excellent. After we were done eating I seen them take an order of "Fried Green Tomatoes" to the table next to ours, I wished I would of seen them on the menu sooner. Looking forward to them on the next trip back there in New York.
  8. Lawdwaz I live in Washington State and have a conceal carry permit. Mine is good for about seven or eight other states, I'll be getting a Arizona conceal crry permit after I get the required gun class. I'm not sure how many other states that will open up to carry in, I am planning of traveling to Arizona to visit friends and do some sight seeing. Utah and Florida are good states to get a conceal carry permit from to really open up your conceal carry range, With these two non-resident conceal carry permits it opens up around 37 states. If HR882 ever goes through you'll be able to carry in every state in the US. You can look online and get the cost and requirements from these states, I know there are gun instruction classes you are required to have before you can apply.
  9. Pistol permits in New York are time consuming for sure, It shouldn't be that much of a hassle. Once you get it you'll have fun shooting what ever you choose to buy. As far as ammo goes I think it will e a year or two before you see any amount of ammunition available like it use to be. There are tens of millions gun owners and millions more joining our ranks. They can only produce so much in a day and the demand has jumped by leaps & bounds. You'll never get it if you don't apply. Here in Washington State it's so much easier for people who want pistols, You just go to the gun store and buy what ever you want, no permit necessary. You can open carry, go target shooting, hunting or just have one because you can. If you want to carry concealed then you need to get a Conceal Carry Permit. I applied for mine on a Thursday and recieved it on the following Monday. I have several handguns for different purposes, Target Shooting, Hunting and Conceal Carry. A nice first handgun would be Ruger Single-Six. I sold my old one and bought a new one a year or so ago. I bought the stainless steel model with the 22 long rifle and 22 magnum cyliders. It's a fun little gun to target shoot with and also for hunting squirrels, grouse and other small game. I prefer the stainless over the blue guns, another nice little 22 is the Ruger Mark 2s I have two of them both stainless one has a ten inch bull barrel the other has a 6 7/8 inch barrel. They are very accurate and never jam or mis-fire. For a larger hand gun you can't beat the quality of a Ruger GP100 - 357mag. Again I prefer the stainless steel over the blued. I have one with the 6" barrel, shooting it is like driving a Cadillac, nice quality built gun that will hold it's value. The recoil is pleasent for a large caliber handgun. You can use it to target shoot, hunt deer with it and use it for personal defense. I also have a Rossi 971 - 357 mag that I use for a conceal carry gun, again it's stainless with a muzzle brake and I just bought a S&W 642 Airweight 38 + P to use as a conceal carry handgun. I have a bunch of others but these are a few that are decent guns for about $400 to $600 price range.
  10. This video says it all, Don't tell me they's never use the guns we buy for them on the people of the US. This soldier says it for you. And look how they confinscated the guns for the residents of New Orleans when they needed them the most. Sorry but they would of has to use their m16s on me if I were living there at the time and my property was high & dry. Guns have other uses then just hunting and target practise, thats why I have & use a conceal carry permit. And then have them knock at your door and dis-arm you so you have nothing to protect yourself & your family, I call bullit on this one guys. If we can't buy arms for self protection, the Gov shouldn't be able to either-period. If they can't keep up with production then they'll have to add more staff & more manufactureing capabilities. Why does the Department of Homeland Security need Cilvilian Targets, 7,000 fully autiomatic Rifles, 1.6 billion rounds of Ammo and a stockpile of multi-person caskets? Is there something they have planed in the future? And then stuff all of this gun control down our throats on the state and federal level. Every State in the Union are trying to pass some form of gun control. I'm not parinoid about all of the theories out there, just well informed and try to stay educated about whats going on. http://www.infowars....ts-of-children/
  11. I like the idea of getting together with newer people interested in hunting, If I move back to New York I'd be interested in being part of the group. If I move back to NY i'll be in the Binghamton area, when I travel ack to NY I have a friend that I stay with that lives in Huntington,LI. I did have a lot of places to hunt in Broome, Chenango and Delaware counties. I'm sure getting permission again wouldn't be a problem for both small gsame as well as big game. If I move back there I will be buying a pair of beagles and a couple of bluetick coon dogs.
  12. A friend bought a Henry 22 last fall, He didn't lke the back sight on it. Other then the rear sight he likes it, with ammo being non-exsistant here and al across the country it makes you wonder what's going on. He probably shout of bouht it when they had live shells in them.
  13. They have taken our guns away when they needed them the most, In New Orleans right after Katrina, Watch this video, The first National Guard guy says a few scarry things. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tta1qhQZWSE
  14. You should write to your state legislator and press them into making it so the pistol permit information can not be handed out to be put on these list, this is where the paper got the information to publish all of the names and addresses of pistol permint holders down by NYC. If Ilived in New York I'd be all over it and get every one that has a gun to write letters in as well.
  15. All of the major police departments have computers that read your cars computer and your license plate RFID chip. When the state say they "Can't read your license plate" It's not the plate they can't read it's the RFID Chip, They upgrade the technology in the RFID Chips with more information for the Law Enforsment to gather information. All cars since 1987 have computers in their electrical system that gayters and stores information that the State downloads when you take your car in for Emissions Readings, It tell where your car traveled, speeds it was driven, seatbel use, if you used your turn signals, and a bunch of other information. You've seen the Progressive Commercial with Flow about saving money if your a "Safe Driver" with "Snap Shot" that little devise you plug into the same port the state plugs into for you emmissions, They gather the same information the state gathers to see if you are obaying all traffic laws. Major Law Enforcment have devices that look through your walls and can tell where everyone is in the house and what they are doing, It also pickes up audio, what ever is being said they can record it. We have no privacy, it's been long gone for quite some time. How do you think they foil so many high profile acts of terrorism and open investigations that years ago would of went un-noticed. There is a lot of other high tech operations out there that you can find on the computer if you dig a little. The US has a spy plane that flys 80,000 fee and has a feild of 1,500 miles in each direction that can pick up 1,100 pieces of video, audio & other information and can transmit it anywhere in the world to be reviewed. This stuff is old technology and isn't classified anymore and is available to anyone who wants to check it out. They changed the format on televisions to the digital age, with these new TVs they have access to video & audio through the TV set and computer into your home. 16. I hit the post button by mistake, sorry. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 88 I doubt if you'll ever see that statistic on stollen guns used in cimes, The powers to be know we would prove our point on how many crimes are commited with illegal guns verses legally owned guns. I live in Washington State, I lived in Upstate New York for fourty-two years prior to moveing out west. When I write my senators & congressman I tell them that 2/3rds of all gun related deaths are atributed to SUISIDE, The 1/3rd of gun deaths left over most of them are gang-bangers shooting their rival gang-bangers and drug dealers shooting their non-paying drug addicted customers, or the dug addicted customers robbing their drug dealers and killing them in the process, either way no great loss. Then you have all of the people that Law Enforcement kill, They are mixed in to the final numbers. People killed by assualt rifles are less then one percent of all gun deaths, most of them are people that get shot & killed by Law Enforcement. The rest are killed by mentally challenged mis-fits that are off of their meds if they have any, or have not been to any kind of mental health facility to get evaluated. Family can't afford it and the state won't set in. I have a long letter that I spend hours putting together for my ellected officials that covers a lot of subjects.
  17. 88 I doubt if you'll ever see that statistic on stollen guns used in cimes, The powers to be know we would prove our point on how many crimes are commited with illegal guns verses legally owned guns. The fact that I write ny Senators
  18. As long as you have a pistol permit it should be legal in shotgun areas, I think you'd catch sh!# frol the game warden & law enforcment on the grip. If I lived in NY and bought it I'd buy a regular pistol grip for it and sell that one on E-Bay. I have a TC Contender and have been picking up extra barrels when I find a good deal on them. The nice thing about the Contenders and Encores is the huge sellection of calibers avaiable for them. check out www.EncoreClassifieds.com Plus you can buy the rifle stock, rifle fore-end and rifle barrels to use as a rifle of you want to.
  19. Just be patient with him and get him out as much as you can, the more they get out in the feild and get to run rabbits the better he'll get. Once he gets broken in you'll have a lot of fun with him plus put some rabbits on the table along with a few grouse. How tall will he get to be? I like the 12" beagles.
  20. What kind of dog is Chester? A friend of mine had a dashound that ran rabbits better then his beagles. They bought it for a house dog and ended up being his number 1 hound.
  21. Any day out in the woods is a nice day, with the fisher population being so high the squirrel numbers are down. I'm sure there are other factors involved in the decline.
  22. I personally shot a couple of deer in PA with a 410, I'd disagree with you on that one. Proper shot placement knocked them in to the next world & in to my freezer.
  23. When I lived in New York we use to hunt New York and Pennsylvania. In Pennsylvania 410 use to be legal for deer and any centerfire rifle was legal as well. I've shot a few deer with an old 410 bolt action Mossgerg. You have to know the limitations on what ever gun you are using. I also bought a Ruger model 77 in 22 Hornet to use in Pensylvania on deer just because I could. I shot a few deer with that small caliber gun and never lost a one. I never lost a deer with the 410 either. It all comes down to shot placement. You have to stay with in the means of the gun you are useing. While useing the smaller caliber guns there were a lot of deer I had to pass on because they were out of range for the light loads, But if you put the time in you'll get one with in range and you'll be successful. It doesn't matter if your useing a 22 magum or a 300 Win. Mag - Shot placement is everything. If you hit a deer in the heart or liver it's dead in a shot time, hit a deer in the guts and your tracking it and possibly loseing it. Most people hunt squirrels with a 12 gauge shot gun, I've hunted them a lot of times with my 177 caliber pellet gun. But when I use the pellet gun I have to be alot closer and more acurate then a guy with a 12 gauge. My favorite deer gun is my Remington 788 in 243 Winchester. Elk hunting my favorite gun is my Interarms 7mm-mag. My favorite squirrel gun is my Marlin 882 in 17HMR. My favorite rabbit gun is my Ithaca model 66 in twenty gauge. My favorite grouse gun is my Stevens 311 - 20 gauge double barrel SxS.My favorite waterfowl gun is my Winchester Super X3, My favorte small caliber target pistol is my Ruger Mark 2 stainless steel with a ten inch bull barrel, ( I use this one for small game hunting as well). My favorite big game pistol is my Ruger GP100 - 357 magnum with a six inch barrel (stainless steel). My favorite large caliber conceal carry pistol is my Colt 70 series stainless steel 1911 in 45 acp. Ny favorite small caliber conceal carry is my Kahr PM9 - 9mm semi auto. The other fifty guns in the safes are for when I want to take something different out. I'm far from limited to what I have to use for any given task. There are a few more I will be adding to my collection for specific purposes. A S&W 454 Casual revolver, a Ruger Red Label 12 gauge with screw in chokes, something from Olympic Arms just because they are boycotting New York State by not selling merchandise the State of New York because of the SAFE ACT they shoved up your asses.A gun from Olympic Arms is the first on my list of new items. By the way I have about seven 410 shotguns, when I see one at a decent price I buy it.
  24. I have both the Remington 700 and Ruger 77,the Remington is atleast 30 years old and the ruger I bought newabout 18 years ago. It's a toss up as whch I like the best. My next rifle will be a Ruger 77 in 280 caliber, you can load it light for varmit hunting and heavy for bigger game. I have a cabinet full of centerfire rifles, More then I really need, but once you buy them they are cheap to keep, they don't eant anything and don't make a mess. I also have a cabinet full of shotguns, I like the older vintage Ithaca 37s, I have a 12 gauge 37 with a plain barrel 28" with a full choke. I like it for turkey hunting and late season grouse hunting, pigeon shooting and other long range shooting. The other 37 is a 16 gauge I bought about thirty years ago, it has a plain 26" barrel with a modified choke. I had it drilled & taped for a scope. I use it for deer hunting and killed a ton of deer with it. You can't beat these old guns, I never had an issue with these. You can find decent older Ithaca's for around $450. I see them here at the gun shows every now I then. My newest shotgun is the Winchester SuperX3, I was looking at a Kinber 1911 last September at Wholesale Sports in Burlington. The live-in came over and stuck her nose into what I was looking at.On the way out to the car she said "You Are Not Spending $1'200 On A New Gun", So needless to say the following day I wasa proud owner of the Winchester. It's still in the box. I bought the waterfowls package with a 28" barrel and it has several screw in chokes in the box. I bought a new Marlin 12 ga. bolt action about ten years ago when K Mark quit selling guns. I paid $199 for it. It has a rifled barrel with rifle sights,It's still in the box in the corner of the closet. I don't know how many shotguns I have in my collection without looking. I like the ol Ithaca model 66 single-shots, Lever action to open it up. The one I like the best is a 20 gauge with a vent-rib barrel, and I like the 410s. If I see them for a decen price I pick the up. I also like the old Ivers Johnson single-shot shotguns. It's hard to find them in good shape, the ones I have are heavily used, but still shoot. the 20 ga & 12 ga have the matter ribbed barrels. They were made by "Ivers Johnson Gun & Cycle Works" I also have a few Mossberg 410 bolt actions, and a Bond Coyboy defender derringer hand-gun that shoots 410/45LC and my Thompson Center Contender has a 14" barrel that shots 410/45LC, I might buy a Mossberg 500 in 410 from Wally World just to have one, they are selling for $250. Depending on what what you plan on doing with your new guns would determine what you should spend your money on. If you are hunting only deer and shooting less the 200 yards I'd buy someting in the 243 to a 30-06 range. For one specific type of shooting I'd buy a older Ithaca shotgun, For several types of shotgun shooting I'd buy a punp or auto loader with screw-in chokes, Older shotguns with full chokes do-not handle Seel-shot and Slugs, they are too restricted, you need to have the choke opened up by a gunsmith to avoid damage to the barrel and possible injury to you and by-standers. Here in Washington State there is a gun-smith that will install screw-in chokes in your barrel for $100. So you can buy an older vintage gun and make it more versetile for nominal fee. Plus if you find a gun that you like and it doesn't fit you right you can find a competent gun-smith and they can fit the gun to you. I look at it as the over-all cost,If you have a gun that cost you $600, and you keep it for 20 years the yearly cost is $20 a year. After twenty years you''ll more the likely get all of your money back and then some. If you give the gun away after twenty years your only out $5 a month. Some places have a three month lay-awy program with 25% down. I buy a few guns a year on the lay-away plan. When I have an extra $50 I'll put it on the Mossberg 500- 410 pump at Wally-world. Right now I have a 38 SPL revolver on a lay-away plan at the shooting range. It's a easy way to get what you want without breaking the bank. Most people don't have an extra $500, $600 to put out at one time on a sporting item.
  25. Thev airguns they use for hunting are PCP airguns (PreCharged Pneumatic) They are available up to 50 caiber and are legal in some state to hunt big game with. They are expensive and just as powerful as a rifle charged with gun powder and very lethel. I haea cheap Gamo 177 caliber airgun and have shot a lot of squirrels and othe larger animals with it, one shot-one kill. It travels 1'000 feet per second, you can buy affordable air guns that obtain 1'200 feet per second. These travel close to what a 22 LR. travels.
