Good luck, My Friend...Glad to hear you are still kicking....<<SMILE>>…. -
Damn, Grampy...nobody ever told me that before,,As Rob can attest, I'm not too good at backing in boats...I will definitely take your advice and try that next time...

No boat ramp, but a funny story..A couple of friends and I were catching turtles at a local pond..We got one REALLY big REALLY pissed off snapping turtle in the boat..Forgot to bring a sack, so the turtle is in the bottom of the boat just mad as hell and snapping like crazy...I am perched up on the bow of the little 12 foot rowboat, trying to keep out of his range.... We pull up to the dock. with the snapper still hissing and snapping at my heels....My two buddies jump up on the dock with me still perched on the bow.. The bow goes DOWN and I go head over heels into the water...Fortunately, the snapper stayed in the boat....

I don't hunt deer with a .223, but I wouldn't hesitate if it was all I had...I would, however use a more stoutly constructed bullet in 55 or 60 grains, like a Nosler partition or a Barnes X type... .22 centerfires are quite popular for deer for in some areas of the country, and there are bullets for them designed specifically for hunting deer sized game... -

I am a great believer in the old axiom " If it works, don't fix it".... I have no issue with hunting deer with a .223, as long as you place the bullets where they belong... However, it puzzles me why anyone would choose a bullet expressly designed as a highly frangible projectile for varmints ( that's what the V in VMax stands for) when there are many other more stoutly constructed bullets available for the .223.. It might make the difference in a clean kill animal vs a wounded animal should you just be a little off and hit a shoulder blade.. -
At least your dog got to cool off...Looking forward to meeting him/her...I am definitely a dog person, and have had them all my life, until moving into a house on a main street in town....I miss having a dog...

Nope...She seduced me....I was pure as the driven snow until I met her...

Everyone is good at SOMETHING, Jay.... I happen to be very good at farting and belching...

That reminds me of a story... I was out squirrel hunting years ago and I ran into a guy in the woods with a whole sack full of squirrels and NO GUN... When I got up close to him, I realized he was the UGLIEST person I had ever seen..Downright PAINFUL to look at.... I couldn't resist asking him how he got all those squirrels with no weapon.. He told me " I just UGLY them to death...I sneak up real close, and when they see my face they just drop over dead"... I asked him " Does anyone else in your family have this talent ?" He told me.. " I took my wife hunting a couple of times, but I had to quit taking her...She tears 'em up too bad..".... -
My ex-wife told me I was rude, insensitive and selfish.... I told her " Honey, you knew I was an asshole when you MARRIED me !!"...

It wasn't for any lack of performance by the Nosler BTs... A lot of guys on the forum I was hanging out on at the time were singing the praises of the Barnes 120 grain TSX in the 7MM08... Just for shits and giggles, I tried them, and loved the results....I just stuck with them in my 7MM08 and eventually tried them in my .280 and my 9.3 x 62, with equally pleasing results...I can't say they kill any better than the Nosler BTs, because dead is dead...I'll say that in my rifles they are as accurate, kill equally as well and probably do less meat damage than the Noslers... That said...I could switch back to the Noslers tomorrow and probably never see any difference as far as meat on the ground... -
He was just out searching for the REAL killer....

They are also the first bullet I'll try for accuracy...Tough to find a more accurate hunting bullet in many rifles... -
I would have to disagree with the roadkill...My son in law drives a van for the county, chaufferring people all over several counties to hospitals, etc...He told me just yesterday that he has been seeing quite a few fawns splattered on the highways....

One of my local buddies shot a red fox last spring that he saw chasing a fawn in the pasture behind his house.....

I like to fish for wild trout on some of our local , unstocked tributaries.... They are beautiful fish and I hate to kill them, but they taste so good that I always keep a few to eat each season...Since I catch most of them on worms, a few get hooked deep, and would not survive anyway..I generally release the light hooked ones and keep the deeper hooked fish to eat... They do taste so much better than the stockies...

Rub that big trout with olive oil....Put half a dozen garlic cloves in the body cavity...Wrap it securely with heavy duty aluminum foil, so no steam escapes...Do it directly on the grill at medium to medium high heat....Turn it over every two minutes for 15-20 minutes... Open the foil and the skeleton and bones should pick right away from the meat...Season to taste...I like a little salt & pepper, but some folks like lemon or other seasonings... I have done the same thing directly on the coals of a wood fire in Alaska and other remote places, but if you put it right on the coals you need to turn it more often and cook for a shorter time....Wild leaopard rainbows, dolly vardens and grayling never tasted so good as cooked that way... Don't forget the cheeks...On a big trout like that there a good sized sweet nugget of meat on each cheeks... Bon apetit'......SMILE.....

I have probably killed more animals with the Nosler BT , mostly 140 grain in my .280 Rem, than any other single bullet... LACK of exspansion has never been an issue. I have however, usually had an exit on a broadside lung shot on deer...On slightly bigger critters like caribou, the remains of the bullet would be under the hide on the off side...Usually the bullet jacket and not much more.. -
My partner, who has the bigger boat and the trolling gear, cancelled out on me...I will make it up soon, though... I wanted to go last year, and was all set up with 2 buddies, and I came down with the flu at the last minute and had to cancel...They did very well, of course...<<SIGH>>….Always a bridesmaid....Hehehe....

Not quite, Rob..Cost me $15....Hehehe...
