The only NP I ever recovered hit a big Alaska bull moose in the brisket, angled toward the right and I found it under the skin behind the right shoulder..I figure it went through over two feet of moose...It was a 7MM NP 160 grain fired from a .280 Rem..It still weighs 105 grains....

The Mermaid is an old farm girl and has always talked about the codfish gravy her Mom used to make and serve over bisquits or taters...I had never had it, and hesitated to try it because salt cod ( which used to be dirt cheap) is now $10 a pound... I finally decide d to bite the bullet and try it...Looked up several recipes on the net and fixed some tonite... IT SUCKED !! Could be that I screwed it up, but I'll never try it again.... Besides that, it left the kitchen smelling like a Saigon whorehouse....Of course that is not necessarily a BAD thing....Hehehe...

Lawdwaz has a wicked deer load for his .243 involving an 80 or 85 grain monolithic...Barnes, if I am not mistaken...I'm sure he'll share the recipe..

Never even took the crow call out of my vest this year, and in general, birds around me weren't gobbling to crows much.. HOWEVER, I owe my first Canadian gobbler ( the one that beat me up) to a crow...He had not gobbled at all until a crow called directly over my head...He gobbled at that crow and alerted me that he was directly behind me...If not for that, I never would have known he was there, since my attention was focused on another bird that was gobbling about 100 yards in front of me... BTW.. I'm still black and blue...<<sigh>>...

I had an exceptional spring and killed 4 longbeards in 12 days of hunting...I have not done that very many times in my 45 years of gobbler hunting... One thing I noticed...I had very few, if ANY responces to excited yelping or cutting this spring..... Generally, if a gobbler is at all interested in responding, I can trigger a gobble to some cutting or hot yelping..He may not COME, but he will gobble at it... Not this spring....All my gobbles came to clucking, purring, and soft conversational type yelps....Just an observation...Might not mean anything...

Yes, but many times, for reasons known ONLY to the gobbler, he just AIN't in the mood.... I have never been able to figure out why on one day NOTHING is gobbling, and the next day, in the same spot, every gobbler in the woods wants to commit suicide.. You just have to be lucky enough to be there when they want to co-operate...The hot days are certainly more rare than the quiet days, with most days being somewhere in between the two extremes..

I have seen that MANY, MANY times.....If a gobbler is tending hens, he has no reason to gobble....

I understand that peacocks are good eating....Just sayin'...Hehehe....

Dusted in flour, salt and pepper and sautéed in butteruntil golden brown...Definitely much better than chicken...

All the frog legs that I have taken myself were superb....Not such good luck with store bought ones..I bought some frozen ones once years ago...Not so good..3 or 4 years ago I saw them on a restaurant menu on the north shore of Oneida lake..I asked the waitress about them and she said " They are to die for".....Wrong terminology ..A more accurate phrase would be " They are to die FROM"...They were disgusting......
