I dearly miss Growie myself, even if she WAS nuttier than squirrel shit... Exchanged a lot of PMs with her and considered her one of my friends.. Her absence is definitely a loss to this forum...

Monkey see...monkey do......Hehehehe...

It will be a shooter for sure....Head shots only on squirrels for sure or you will blow the s**t out of them... Great for varmints up to the size of foxes, and I do not expect a coyote would go far with a lung shot...

I am glad I am not Belo....It must be tiring carrying that big CHIP around on his shoulder....

I have had two for probably close to 8 years...One of them just went tits up this spring...The other still seems to be working fine..

To me, the flavor is similar GOOD wild duck (mallard, teal, early season blacks or wood duck) as opposed to crappy wild duck, ( like most common diver species)... If you like good liver, like venison liver or calves liver you would probably like them...If you like bland crap like chicken breast, you may not care for them....

Squab refers to young pigeons that have not left the nest....I have had some experience with them...Harvested some from my barn....Fully feathered but not yet quite ready to fly...They were EXTREMELY tender and flavorfull...You could simply sauutee them in a pan and they were fork tender...However, once they start flying on a daily basis and those breast muscles strengthen, they need a bit more cooking to make them tender...
-
I personally like them very much....They are a dark meat similar to dove, wild duck, or woodcock.... Very easy to clean...Just peel he skin off the breast and cut it loose from the body and you have a nice, heart shaped piece of meat.. The older ones need long slow cooking or they tend to be tough..Crockpotting or other slow , moist cooking methods work well... One good way is to simmer them slowly in spaghetti sauce.. Of course, tastes vary , but I prefer darker meats like pigeon, dove or wild duck to lighter meats like grouse or pheasant any day... Same goes for domestic meat like chicken or turkey..You can have the white meat, I'll take the legs and thighs any day... I don't know about birds that live around city buildings and bridges...The pigeons I have eaten live and feed around mostly farm buildings, such as barns and silos...

Carol was funny, but Tim Conway and Harvey Korman were a real hoot....

Many relatively shallow ponds like this have have mayfly hatches in the evening just before dark....Take your fly rod and some big ( #10 or #12) dun colored dries and you may coax a strike or two on the surface.. Use a serpentine cast to minimize drag...Current or not DRAG is DRAG and if the fly is moving they will NOT hit it... A neighbor of mine once had small pond stocked with rainbows ( some big ones too) and he fed them dry dog food every day... I tied some " dog food flies" out of spun deer hair and caught some trout on them..They were seldom fished for and unsophisticated, but TROUT are TROUT..If there was any unnatural drag on the fly they would not touch it.. It had to be floating like a nugget of Purina Dog Chow...

Moog's post featuring Wile E. Coyote brings to mind some scenes or routines, that, not matter how many times I watch them, I cannot help laughing out loud... A couple that come to mind are the Johnny Carson routine with Jack Webb entitled " Clapper Caper"... Google it.... Another is a scene from " Something About Mary"..... " We've got a BLEEDER !!"... Something About Mary is one movie that I watched for the first time all by myself, and broke out laughing out loud several times...

That was the beginning of my drinking problem...

I tend to be mostly flaccid myself these days, but I do have my moments, like after a couple dozen oysters on the half shell and maybe a couple of blue diamonds...Unfortunately, it's either " all dressed up and no where to go" OR " lead in the pencil and nobody to write to"...…<< sigh >>….

I started my carreer as a Gynecologist, but I had to give it up because I was developing tunnel vision... Lucky for me, I soon settled into my dream job..Picking rags behind the Walmart...

Small in line spinners like Roostertails or Panther Martins should work... Just be sure to use a good snap swivel because they will twist hell out your line, either casting or trolling them..
