I just checked the BATF website and I was correct..Minimum 18" for shotguns. Since I assume your rig is a factory model I suspect that you are incorrect in the length..Chances are if you measure it it will be 18.5".
-
I thought the minimum barrel length for shotguns was 18 "....16" for rifles...

Welcome, Gary...You are in a great area for hunting and fishing.. Where did you live in AK ?? I hunted there 5 times west of the AK range and spent a couple of weeks in Juneau fishing on 2 other trips.

Yeah, the durn things !! I do quite a lot of walleye fishing on a local small river, and the bank beavers seem to take pleasure in swimming right out into the middle of the hole where I am fishing and slapping thier tails..Walleyes are very spooky and don't react well to such things. I have threatened to shoot them, but they don't seem to take me seriously...

Oh I don't know about that arrow nocker... They don't pay any taxes and I suspect that they recieve food stamps... Pretty CLEVER if you ask me...
-
It's CRUEL to limit it to just one shotgun..I have several that I could not imagine parting with. However, to play the game, I'll pick one. SKB Model 100 20 gauge double with 25" barrels choked IC and MOD.

I don't think that most people would suggest that the M1 was superior for CQB...Even in the past the Thompson, the M3 grease gun and even the .30 carbine with it's anemic round were preferred for house to house and room to room combat. However, the M1 excelled in engaging targets from 100 to 600 yards, and for that reason, many M14s have been brought out of mothballs for duty in the Middle east and Afghanistan. My opinion of the .223 as a deer cartridge, is that it is fine as a "rifle looney's" rifle... With PROPER BULLETS and used by a person who waits for a broadside shot, it is very capable. However, many hunters who are not into terminal ballistics and who may take a shot at a deer at bad angles, would be better off with something with a heavier bullet that is more likely to reach the vitals with a raking shot than a .223 with bullets designed for woodchucks.

You have a point there ,Aaron...If all of those hundreds of mountain lions that people report seeing can exist with no physical evidence other than eye witness reports, an animal with much HIGHER intelligence, like a sasquatch, should be able to exist in fairly large numbers without detection... Shucks, there may be THOUSANDS of them out there...I suspect that a large number of them voted for Obama......

I thought I saw a sasquatch one time up in St Lawrence County.. It turned out to be Bubba picking blackberries in his speedo....

This is to help stop the spread of invasive insects, specifically the emerald ash borer beetle, which is killing off our ash trees. Many landowners are currently harvesting thier ash trees rather than take a chance of losing them to these insect pests. There has been quite a lot of publicity about this in the last couple of years.

Sounds like a nice rig, Noah...Is that your first 7mm08 ? You'll love the caliber..Light recoil and great performance on game. I'm also a fan of walnut and blued steel... Never had a Browning rifle, but I sure like thier shotguns.I have a Citori 12 gauge field grade and a Belgian A-5 light 20.. -
My Ol' Buddy Bubba has the right idea...

My Dad saw one in the road in the town of Woodhull about 30 years ago.. I trust his judgement as you trust your father's. I also think he was mistaken. A good friend of mine who is a retired State Trooper showed me a picture of a black one with a radio collar on it... I looked at it and nodded...It was SO obviuously a big housecat wearing a red collar..Somebody's pet. Sometimes very honest folk's judgement is not accurate... Shucks...If my judgement was always accurate, I'd still be happily married...<< grin>>...

I never found a still in the woods, but I often come across little cultivated garden patches fenced in with chicken wire.... Must be some kind of vegetable that grows in little clearings in the woods and brushlots, out of sight of helicopters and such....hehehehe....
-
I only killed one when I was intentionally looking for coyotes..I was cruising the backroads early in the morning and spotted one in a hayfield about 200 yards away..Sniped him with the 7mm08. He had the mange. I have killed 3 while turkey hunting ( all in Ontario) 2 while deer hunting, and 1 while duck hunting.

Concerning the DEC denying that there were no coyotes in NY... I have a hunting reg booklet from about 1950 or a few years prior..I'd have to dig it out to be sure.. It contains regs regarding hunting coyotes in NY.. Must be the DEC people who were quoted to say there are no coyotes in NY were quoted prior to 1950.. Then, of course there are those reports of black stealth helicopters lowering cargo nets full of wriggling coyotes to reduce deer populations, funded by insurance companies...

I noticed the same thing, Growie.. The buck I shot opening day ( a 1.5 year old 6 point) had practically NO fat, even though his stomach was full of corn. The adult doe I shot today in PA was larded up pretty good with fat. A friend of mine has a deer cutting operation here near Addison. I was up at his place a few days ago and I noticed quite a few deer hanging that had very little fat.. Not sure what's going on....

Steve....The only time I felt violated when when I was checked by that good looking female DEC officer... But I kinda LIKED that...<<big SMILE>>....
-
I've hunted and fished for about 50 years...I have been checked in NY at least a dozen times..I have been checked in PA at least 6 times. I have been checked in Ontario, Quebec, Alaska, and Virginia. I have been checked fishing, both ice and open water, goose hunting, duck hunting, fox hunting, deer hunting, moose hunting, caribou hunting and turkey hunting. Must be my honest FACE....hehehehe.....

Dandy buck Lawdwaz..CONGRATS..!!.... I love the shooting house too, along with the possibility of some fairly long shots. I'd rather take a shot at 300 yards from a good rest than have to shoot offhand at 50... Barnes bullets come through once again <<grin>>.....

OLD! Very Old .22's.. Help please!!

The muzzle brake may or may not be aftermarket. Many shotguns from the 40s through the 60s were sold with factory installed adjustable choke devices such as Polychokes, Cutts Compensators and others. It might be tough to locate choke tubes for the brake on your Granddad's gun. You could use it with shot loads. It will throw an open cylinder bore pattern, but that is fine for a lot of upland hunting, such as grouse and rabbit hunting. It may even throw slugs well..Many cylinder bore barrels do. -
Tomorrow is the opener for PA rifle season. I'll be hunting WMU 3A near Nelson, PA. I have my buck tag and two antlerless tags. Good luck to all, and be careful out there.

The choke designation is usually stamped on the left side of the barrel just ahead of the reciever. It may say full, mod, or imp cyl. Most Sears pump guns were manufactured by High Standard. Nothing fancy, but a good solid, servicable shotgun. No problem shooting foster style rifled slugs. It would probably be a good idea to avoid shooting steel shot in it. In older guns that were not designed for steel shot, it could cause damage to your barrel, such as bulging or scoring of the bore. -
I always heard that kidney is great as long as you prepare it properly. You have to boil the piss out of it....<< grin>>..

Most of the hair can be singed off with a propane torch. Congealed blood on the surface can be scraped off with a knife or washed off with a wet cloth and cold water, but if the blood clots are running through the muscle tissue, the bloodshot meat should be trimmed away and discarded. It will not keep well and it will have a strong taste.
