  1. I prefer my venison without adding sauce or marinade..I Like the taste of the meat.. Backstraps or steaks get pan broiled in a very hot skillet in a little spray "pam" or butter...Sear each side and serve them rare or medium rare, perhaps with a little garlic seasoned salt. If the smoke ain't rolling and the blood ain't running, you ain't COOKING it right.
  2. Joseph..I think you've found Santa Claus...<<grin>>.. Very generous offer, Dinsdale.... I agree that anybody that hauls that much "stuff" deserves a break.
  3. I agree with Bubba...Don't you wonder why these sickos don't target police stations or ANYWHERE that they know there will be armed resistance ? They always target areas where they know there will be lots of helpless victims and a MINIMUM chance of armed resistance. They are sick, cowardly peices of s**t and most of them shoot themslves rather than face the retribution they know is coming when the police finally get there.
  4. Grizz...I was not aware that TC ever made the Renegade in a 56 smooth bore.. All I was ever aware of was the .54 and .50 rifle... However, I am not an expert on TC Arms...Feel free to educate me...
  5. Geeze, Growie... 36 stands ?? Did you say you have less than 100 acres ? It must be hard to walk on your property without seeing a deer stand.. Not that there is anything "wrong" with that. Just Sayin'...<< SMILE>>...
  6. Nice to hear that the scumbags get what they deserve every now and then. Good work, Partner...Hope they throw the book at him.
  7. I'm am not sure of the reasoning. It may also involve fair chase. In parts of Canada and Alaska it is common practice for the natives to watch for an animal or a herd of animals ( moose, caribou, deer) to start to swim a river or lake, and then paddle or motor up to the swimming animals, pop them in the head, and then throw a line on them and drag them to shore. This practice may have been common in parts of NY , like the Adirondacks, at one time..Just guessing..
  8. The rifle is selective fire , either semi or fully auto. Many fully auto arms were "DE-MILLED", physically altered so they cannot be made to fire. Perhaps it is one of those. In any case, it's in police custody now. She should be able to sell to someone with the proper license. I know several people who are licensed to posses fully automatic weapons.
  9. Believe it or not, Doc, some of us hicks down here in Little Appalachia still do that. Just a nod of the hat brim or a little finger wave does the trick. And NO , Doewhacker, I'm not talking about THAT finger wave !...hehehe...
  10. I'm a dyed in the wool handloader, but I'm not about to roll my eyes at the Remington Coreloct. It is a tried and true, proven bullet and has been performing well for hunters for many years. When people ask my advice about factory loads, I usually suggest trying plain jane Remington Green corelocts. As often as not they need to go no further.
  11. Cool...I watch a lot of WWII film footage on the Military Channel and the History Channel. Once in awhile I see films of German troops carrying the STG 44 rifles, especially in footage from the battle of the Bulge. They were an excellent weapon, and as stated, the very first "assault rifle" in history. Fortunately for US and unfortunately for the Germans, the numbers manufactured and issued were too few to make much difference. By 1944, when they were first issued, it would have taken more than a superior infantry small arm to turn the tide of the war in Germany's favor.

    Troutfishing

Weighted nypmhs work well year round...Dead drift them along the bottom using a small float or strike indicator. Think SLOW..Fish deliberatly and patiently. The fish aren't very active in such cold water. They will feed, but you need to drift the bait or lure right in front of their nose. Strikes will be light and subtle..If your float or strike indicator stops, or even pauses, raise your rod to set the hook...
  13. I've had trigger jobs on 4 or 5 of my rifles...All are sweet now..About 2.5 lbs and crisp. All but one were done by a gunsmith and I don't think I paid more than $35 for any of them. I did one myself, the single set trigger on my CZ-550. The adjustment instructions that came with the operating manual were very simple and it worked like a charm. I only adjusted the single stage pull..The set trigger function was light enough already.
  14. Hehehehe, Coonhunter... Reminds me of the time that two friends and I drove up around Redfield to hunt snowshoe hares..The ground was bare here in the southern tier..We got up to Pulaski and headed east, and there was four feet of new snow..We let he beagle out of the truck and she DISAPPEARED in the snow... We laughed, found a place to have lunch and a couple of beers, and then drove back home. The beagle was pissed...
  15. Well, with that kind of reasoning, there must be 1000s of unrecovered deer in the many states and provinces where rifles have been used for many years, including the northern zone and catskill zones here in NY. BTW..Although the entry hole might be smaller, the exit hole is often larger with a rifle than with a shotgun.
  16. Coonhunter..I'm sorry you miss the snow... I sure as hell don't...I remember WELL when the snow came and didn't go away until spring ..It SUCKED. I remember being snowed in many times for several days with no way to get in and out other than trudge through the drifts. Once we were snowed in for two weeks..I remember shoveling 6 and 8 foot snowdrifts out of our driveway by hand.. One time my ex wife and I hosted a birthday sleepover for my daughter and got snowed in for several days with half a dozen twelve year old GIRLS..Talk about HELL !!..Even the cat and the two dogs were female !! I still cringe just remembering the experience. I came close to neutering myself after that experience.. God Bless you with your snow memories..I'll let you have them... As for me, except for an inch or two during deer season, I could care less if I NEVER see any more damn snow !!<<grin>>..

    First deer!

That shouldn't have been an issue, Elmo.. You're obviously not Italian......
  18. I miss pulling into the drive-in theater in my 1957 F-100 with a pretty girl snuggled up to me, a paper bag full of 99 cent per sixpack beer on the floor and a 35 cent pack of Marlboros on the dash. Of course I always had my army blanket behind the seat just in case we got cold. <<SIGH>>...I listened to the soundtrack of many movies back then....
  19. I assume you plan to hunt deer. Deer whitetail deer are not a big challenge to bullet construction. Any standard expanding bullet in 150 grain weight or heavier in the 30-06 will kill them just fine. You don't need an expensive bullet for deer. A buddy of mine, who is a non-reloader ( poor soul) just this year experimented with several different factory loads for his .270. Of all the loads he tried, the most accurate was the cheapest Federal rounds that he could buy..They seemed to kill ok also, since while he hunting with me he killed 3 deer in 2 days. Let me say also, price was not a factor in his decision. He is a successful attorney and can afford whatever ammo he wants. I'd try the cheap Federals and Rem Green coreloct first.Chances are one or both of them will group well. If not, there are dozens of other options in factory loads out there for the 30-06, probably more than for any other cartridge.
  20. Larry..I'd like to see that...At a DISTANCE.. LOL...Take pictures. Actually. In my younger days I had ambitions of becoming a gynecologist.. Then I realized that for every woman out there who looks like Halle Berry or Carrie Underwood, there are a DOZEN who look like Rosie O'Donnel or Janet Reno. That visual ought to ruin your morning...hehehehe...

    First deer!

A belated CONGRATS, Partner !! I somehow missed this thread until now. Nice story..Great shot placement. Nuthin' like losing your cherry !! <<wink>>...
  22. Hehehehe...Culver...It could have been the LATTER..They seemed like pretty rough & tumble boys, so I was REAL nice to them..<<grin>>..
  23. Along those same lines...A few years back while hunting pronghorns in Wyoming we took our animals to a local processor..They had a sign on the wall stating that all animals delivered there should be properly field dressed. Beneath that sign was ANOTHER sign that said " Bunghole removal fee- $25 "...
  24. Nice work, Larry.. Ever consider being a urologist ?
  25. That amount of damage isn't typical for Barnes X type bullets. I have been using them exclusively in all my hunting rifles for a number of years now. Typically I get a small entry hole and about a two inch exit hole. They nearly always exit and kill as quickly as any bullets I have ever used, usually with less bloodshot meat and meat loss. I've shot a moose, several caribou, and probably two dozen whitetails with them.
