  1. Yup..She's safe from me.. Shucks, I was still married in 1999...I didn't start dating grandmothers until 2005, when my wife and I separated.. Did one HELL of an unguided supercub caribou drop hunt in Alaska in 1999, too..That was near the end of the glory days of the Mulchatna herd. We saw 1000 animals per day for about a week.. No disrespect meant to your Grandma...God bless her..
  2. Hehehehehe...I have been dating grandmothers for several years now... Are you sure where your Grandma has been ?? She may grant me a REPRIEVE regarding my appendages falling off....<<grin>>..
  3. Maybe..maybe not...Ever hunt Potter County ?.. I've seen 18 inch four points.. And that was well after ARs were instituted down there. You say you've hunted PA all your life..How many years does that encompass.. ??
  4. Never turn your back on a Greek Vaseline salesman...
  5. Along the lines of "animal husbandry", I'll share with you all a limerick from back in the 1960s. The reference to Governor George Wallace from Alabama dates it.. " A Hillbilly Farmer named HOLLIS Used POSSUMS and SNAKES for his solace... The children had SCALES and PREHENSIBLE TAILS, And voted for Governor WALLACE.."
  6. Put a whole new twist on the expression, "a piece of a**"....
  7. No problemo, Joe...If it's a legal animal and I have a tag, I'm a shootin' unless it's a fawn..I prefer not to shoot fawns..Not enough meat on 'em.. All I can say is that ReligiousCop must either hunt much more open areas than I do, or have much better eyes than I do. I see quite a few bucks that I know are sublegal..I see just as many that I just can't study the horns well enough to determine legality.. Once in a blue moon I see one that I KNOW is legal right off.. It just ain't that easy when they are moving through dense cover and you may have just one good opening for a shot..
  8. I'll just leave those "quality" deer for you experienced, skilled hunters who give a s**t about antlers, and continue to try to shoot a doe or two for my freezer.
  9. Lawdwaz gives good advice, as usual... I did not even look up that load in my manual, but I know that 59.0 of RL 19 in my .280 with a 140 is getting kinda warm, so I suspect that 62.0 in a 30-06 with a 150 is getting up near max... Proceed slowly and cautiously..
  10. I have hunted PA under ARs for the last few years.. I hunt ground that is either public land or private land that other hunters also have permission to hunt. I hunt in the woods, rather than a tower blind overlooking big areas or food plots.. Most of the time I am hunting escape routes or pinch points where deer are moving to avoid other hunters. Most of the deer I see are moving right along, and often they are in sight, or offer a decent shot, for only a few seconds. It is relatively easy to tell if a deer has antlers...It is often IMPOSSIBLE to determine if a buck has LEGAL antlers.. I see quite a few bucks I could KILL, but relatively few that I dare to shoot, since I can't tell if they are legal or not. Fortunately, doe permits are easy to get in the unit where I hunt, otherwise I wouldn't bother to spend the $$$ for the license.
  11. If I read it right, I'm 320....
  12. What Culver said... If you reload very much, sooner or later you'll need a bullet puller. I throw my agreement with Lawdwaz and other posters. It's never a good idea to shoot reloads that may or may NOT be labeled correctly, and may or may NOT be safe in your individual rifle.
  13. The 7mm08 has been called the perfect whitetail cartridge.. It has been my favorite deer cartridge for the last 15 years or so. It seems to kill as well as the .270, .280, or the 30-06, with considerably less recoil and muzzle blast. It's extremely accurate, and capable of 300 yard PLUS shots... What's not to like ?
  14. Paula Darlin'....Are those things "one size fits all"..??... Do they make them in UNISEX..??.. "Concave or convex, it fits either sex"..??.. I knew a girl once who claimed she could pee in a coke bottle, but I could never get her to demonstrate it for me..
  15. I have heard the term and I knew they were some kind of pesky insect.. Never heard of them here in Steuben County, though...As for ticks, in over 60 years I have only had one on me, although I've picked a few off my dogs.. We DO have our share of skeeters, black flies and deer flies, though..
  16. Hell, I'd try to line 'em up and shoot 'em BOTH !!! <<GRIN>>..Before some of you tight asses get all fired up, I'm just KIDDING..!!..
  17. What the heck is a chigger ??? I suspect that it is ANOTHER good reason to live upstate...<<grin>>...
  18. That should keep the riff-raff off the lawn...<<grin>>... Being old school, I'll just stick with my S/W combat magnum .357 for "inside the parlor" work, my 12 gauge 11-87 with 00 Buck for general stuff, and my M1 Garand for longer range encounters...
  19. Greenehunter...The 7mm is probably a sporterized mauser...Good chance it is a M93 or M95, both of which are perfectly safe to fire with factory loads, such as Remington Corelocts or equivalent. With 175 grain softpoints they are absolutely deadly on deer. Enjoy... You say you also have a Rem 12 gauge semi ? There were really no bad ones made. Is it an Model 11 , 11-48, Sportsman 48, Model 58, model 878, Model 1100 ? They are all quality, vintage firearms..
  20. If you ever hunted turkeys.." The Tenth Legion" by Tom Kelly is required reading. " For Whom the Bell Tolls" by Ernest Hemingway ..probably my favorite novel...
  21. I have eaten crow FIGURATIVELY several times, but never LITERALLY.. Kinda like possum...I have seen the rotten stuff they eat..I suppose they are no worse than a pig or a chicken, though..Both will eat most anything. If you want to try them, I have seen recipes on the net in crow hunting forums and other sources.
  22. Why crow hunt ? #1 They are a plentiful and legal game bird. #2 They are notorious nest predators on upland game birds, waterfowl and songbirds. #3 They are intelligent, wary adversaries and challenging wingshooting targets. #4 What other wingshooting is available here where you can sometimes shoot 50 or 75 shots per day at live gamebirds? #5 It's a heck of a lot of FUN. About as much fun as a wingshooter can have with his clothes on. Go shoot a bunch of them and quit worrying about having to justify it.
  23. I was mauled by a rabid beaver once... The legal term for it is "Divorce"...
  24. Yeah, Ants...The US 1917 is another good example..I Bought one a few years ago that had been sporterized ( not real well, either) but it was a functional 30-06...Bought it for $100, felt lucky to sell it for $125... However, if it had been an unaltered, as issued, Remington or Eddystone in good condition, it would have been worth several hundred dollars. In that case I'd probably still HAVE it..LOL..
