    Now that's funny right there...I don't care WHO y'are...
  2. Doc is correct. There is no open season in Steuben County for fishers or bobcats, so when trappers inadvertantly catch them ( usually in fox or coyote sets) they are required by law to release them. Doing so can get VERY interesting at times. One of my buddies even caught a bear once, about a 75 pounder. It took four guys with snare sticks and lots of sweat and swearing to let that critter loose.. .....
  3. Very nice work, Lowrange... I have the same knife, and in fact I dressed and skinned two deer with it last year.. The lock on my knife has always been touchy, even when it was new.. I blame it on the precise German engineering and tight tolerances. The lock holds tight when it is very clean, but it doesn't take much hair, meat or tallow to clog it to the degree that the lock becomes less dependable. Sometimes just a light touch on the release button causes it to fold. Still, as long as it is kept clean, it's a fine blade. It takes an edge much faster than my Bucks and holds it nearly as long. It's my favorite folder. I bought it for my Dad as a gift in the 70s, and then re-inherited it when he passed away in 1994.
  4. I remember reading an article years ago in the Sports Afield Hunting Annual, which was published once a year...It was a GREAT BIG magazine..I'm sure some of the oldtimers here remember it. Can't remember the exact year, but it was around 1960... Some dude had an article in it about hunting big game with a handgun. he was shooting a Colt Python in .357 with a 6" barrel. He killed all kinds of stuff with it, up to and including mountain goats and sheep.. Used within it's limitations, it will certainly do the trick. However there are quite a few other chamberings available nowadays that will do it with less margin for error..
  5. Who knows, maybe the sound won't bother the toms at all... There was a time when I would not have believed that a gobbler would walk right up to a popup blind set up in the open, but they will... I have a hunting buddy in Florida who hunts with his recurve out of a custom popup blind, and he often sets up under cover of darkness within full view of a roosting tom. He kills his limit in Florida and Georgia every year, and most of his shots are under 15 yards. They might think that the sound is the gobbler drumming. Judging by some of the Gawd-awful calling I have heard some hunters do and still kill turkeys, that is not out of the realm of belief. In any case, when the gobbler gets within 50 or 75 yards of the decoy, it's time to stop calling, moving the decoy or whatever and get ready to make your shot.
  6. Hunter..Yes, night hunting is legal. However, on the lease we were hunting most of the terrain is thick woods and brush, which does not lend itself to night hunting. The only open areas which would work well for night shooting are the food plots, which are fenced off with electric fences to keep the hogs out.
  7. A firearm with a muzzle brake does not give up anything significant from a ballistic standpoint. The brake will reduce recoil to some extent, but will also INCREASE muzzle blast significantly. Even a rifle with a brake is loud as hell.. Those short barrels are loud enough WITHOUT a brake, in my opinion. Wear hearing protection...
  8. You do have to register your firearms and pay a $25 fee. However it involves filling out a form and doing a little paperwork..No big deal. It takes 15 or 20 minutes at customs. I cross the border annually with firearms and have never had any issues.
  9. Hmmmmm...Is he BAAAACK..???..
  10. Good shooting, Guys... I hunt gobblers in Ontario every year and nearly always see coyotes. Where in Ontario were you hunting.?
  11. When I saw the title of this thread, I thought it must involve erectile dysfunction... Oh well.. Move over Smilin' Bob... Enzyte has some competition now.... More natural male enhancement...hehehehe. Ok..On a serious note, I can see this device working well on trout, which have soft bones, but I would wonder if it would work as well on other species with much heavier rib bones, such as perch, panfish, bass, or catfish.. ALSO the fact that the skin is usually left on stream trout might make a difference. It would help hold the "boneless body" together..With species that are generally skinned ( which includes most species other than trout) I am not sure it would be such a good option.
  12. I love deer liver.. In my opinion it is much milder in flavor than than beef liver. Sautee it in bacon grease with lots of onions... LIVIN' LARGE...!.. I also love the heart, sliced about 1/4" thick, floured and browned up in butter... I have heard that kidneys are good, as long as you boil the piss out of them...
  13. Jerry...God BLESS the little Darlins'...Hehehehe.. Can't hate a girl that chooses to make a lot of men HAPPY, instead of making one man MISERABLE...
  14. Yeah... Shooting that thing looks about as much fun as having a prostrate exam... .. However, around the turn of the (last) century they were common in use for the market hunters... They would mount the gun in the prow of the boat, point the whole boat at the flock of ducks on the water, scull within range and touch off a shot.. 200 ducks with one shot was not uncommon..
  15. Nope...Yardbirds = REGULAR CHICKENS.. Perhaps descendants of Foghorn Leghorn.. Damn...Now I'm dating myself..
  16. Nope..No pork, but those YARDBIRDS are going to tremble in fear when they hear that the old Pygmy is heading SOUTH again...
  17. I just returned last night from my Georgia pig hunt. No one in camp even SAW a pig. We put out six bait stations ( about 200 pounds of corn) and only one was hit by pigs, and that was at night. There was fair amount of sign around, but most of it appeared to be a couple of weeks old. I only saw half a dozen fresh pig tracks. The pigs were simply somewhere else rather than on the 1500 acre lease we were hunting on. Fortunately, killing stuff is not necessary for us to have a good time. Except for one rainy day, the weather was nice, with temps in the 60s. We heard turkeys gobbling daily, and saw some other wildlife, including deer, a bobcat and a flock of sandhill cranes. It was nice to be out in the woods again. While we did not damage to the pig population, we put a real HURTIN' on the fried chicken..We ate our meals at little diners in small southern towns each featuring a buffet with good down home cooking. Thier buffets offered a meal with the choice of several entrees and a drink ( lemonade or sweet tea) and dessert included. The most I paid for a meal was $7.50 and it was GOOD....
  18. Thanks, All... I'm getting my stuff packed today..Just put 2 rifles and ammo into my double hard gun case. We're leaving 4:00 AM tomorrow morning...Hope we don't run into a lot of snotty weather on the way down. Hopefully, once we get south of PA we'll be in the clear..
  19. Actuallly it's risky business... They're likely to SQUEAL on you..... ....
  20. Karpteach...While killing a deer with a 9MM is certainly possible, (lots of them have been killed with .22 rimfires) I know of no one who intentionally hunts deer with the 9MM. Actually, compared to most rifle rounds, even a .41 or .44 mag. is pretty anemic. I would estimate that there are several dozen ( or even hundreds) of chamberings that would be a better choice for deer hunting than the 9MM..
  21. Personally, I'd rather sniff Miranda's "Lambert" than Lady's " Gaga"....
  22. That's ME alright, Steve, except The Mermaid doesn't like facial hair, so she made me shave... Oh well...She's the one that controls the....er....well... Let's just say that the person who controls the "personal parts" calls the shots...
  23. Nothing fancy in the M-1, Lawdwaz.... I have used Win. 150 grain power points, and currently have loaded some 150 Hornady boat tails that I got in a bullet trade here online from Bubba. 47 grains of H4895 gives me around 2700 FPS, supposedly duplicating the load the Garand was developed for. I've never chrony'd them, but they shoot better than I can hold with the issue peep sights. Plenty good enough for MOH ( minute of hog) at woods ranges. The furthest I've ever had a shot one down there was about 50 yards. I'll take pictures for sure, and some one of these days I'll join the 21st century and learn how to post them online. After that, you'll probably get tired of looking at my ruddy little face and s*** eating grin...
  24. Thursday morning my hunting partner (The Iceman) and I are heading south on our semi- annual pig hunt. We hunt on a deer/turkey lease in southeastern Georgia, on invitation of a member of that lease. It's right along the Georgia/Alabama border , south of Ft. Benning, near a little town named Lumpkin. It ain't a canned hunt or a slam dunk...We work hard for our piggies.. Some years we kill 2 or 3, some years we don't... All the hogs there are wild and free ranging. However, it is a nice break from the cold weather, and if we have a good hunt, we bring home some good wild pork.. I think I'm gonna hunt with my Garand M-1 this year..Might be interesting if I get into a bunch of them... hehehehe..
