Jack Webb starred in Dragnet from 1951-1959.. I am not sure when Harry Morgan began as his partner, but I do know that Friday's partner in the first few seasons ( in the 50s) was another guy. Dragnet went off the air, and then began again in the early to mid 60's, at which time Harry Morgan was Friday's partner. " Just the FACTS, ma'm "....Hehehehe..

Hey....I can join Bubba.. We both have something we can agree with Doc on.. The biggest whitetail in the world would have to stand on his hind leg on tiptoes to make a rub six feet high. I believe that whitetails normally have four feet on the ground when they are rubbing. Moose make rubs..I think all members of the deer family do, including elk, caribou and moose.. Porcupines eat bark, but they dont denude vertical hardwood trees like that..Also the toothmarks from thier rodent incisors would be obvious. Black bears claws trees, but they don't completely strip bark as in that rub, and the claw marks would be deep and obvious. One reason I know that moose make rubs.. I watched one do it... It was early September in 1996. I was lying on a ridge on a low hill along the Mulchatna River in Alaska, looking through my 20 power spotting scope. My partner, Fungus face, was lying beside me behind his 300 Win Mag. We were watching a bull moose across a ravine about 250 yards away... The bull walked over to a substantial tree and started rubbing on it. Legal requirements were that the bull be minimum 50" spread, or have at least 3 brow tines on one side. I did not dare judge him as legal for the spread, but I made a definite count of 3 brow tines on one side... I said..." Gridley, shoot that son of a bitch".... I saw the hair part in the center of the bull's ribcage when the bullet hit him.. Turend out he measured 55" spread... Three of us spent all night butchering him by lantern light and then it took us 3 days to pack him back to the lake where our main camp was..

Anyone interested in silencers for rifles and shotguns?
Pygmy replied to Deerthug's topic in General Chit Chat
Wouldn't make much difference to me.. I'm already nearly deaf in my left ear ( I shoot right handed) and can't hear much out of my right ear.. -
Good movie, eddie.. Then you got to boot camp and some sadistic D.I. started beating on your ass and you realized that Jack Webb was really a pretty nice guy... .....

Anyone see the show "My Big Redneck Vacation"?
Pygmy replied to burmjohn's topic in General Chit Chat
Hehehehe..I watched it..." The Clampetts Come to Long Island"... Actually, we have LOTS of folks like that here in Steuben County, except they don't TALK as funny.. -
YOU feel old, NY HUnter..?.. Hehehehe. My little girl will be 33 next month. She is a school librarian for a northern NY school district ( up in Bubba's backyard) and is due to deliver my first grandchild a week from today.

My Grandma used to say that her favorite part of the chicken was the part that went over the fence last... I've eaten some pretty exotic things, but I had chickens all my life, and when I think thier feet, I just think of all the chickens**t that was GROUND into them..In between all of those scales and wrinkles.. I don't care how well you wash them. NO THANKS... ....

I think we ALL owe Al Gore a debt of gratitude for inventing global warming...Not to mention the internet.... .....

LOL... You're becoming my hero, Greene.. I wanna be just like YOU when I grow up I'm still chuckling over your CHICKEN joke from the other day. Hehehehehe...

Sharing information is one reason why forums like this exist. ANOTHER reason, is that these forums provide ENTERTAINMENT. If it becomes TOO sterile, the entertainment value is reduced... Hmmmm.. I think it's time for my nap... Wake me up when it gets interesting... ...

Eddie....Not being picky, but that was Sam Fadala , not "Fadela".. There may some of his info online. Geeze..I wish I was closer. It would be fun to get together with Dave and Dom and share a little "hands-on" input..

Paula... The only frogs big enough to monkey with are green frogs and bullfrogs. The larger green frogs have hind legs that have enough meat to be worthwhile, but the bullfrogs are really the best and have the most meat..Kinda like comparing red squirrels to grey squirrels.. Dust them in flour, salt and pepper and sautee in butter until golden brown.. That is indeed LIVING LARGE....YUM !.. Snapping turtles are excellent, also, although they are MUCH more trouble to prepare for the table..A few years ago a few friends and I got together and got a bunch of snappers and had a "Turtlefest" at my house...We had turtle cooked 8 different ways. My favorite way is roast turtle...Clean and disjoint the turtle . You will end up with 4 legs and the neck ( which is all white meat and the biggest piece of meat on the turtle). Dip the pieces in egg and Italian bread crumbs and brown in butter in a skillet. Then place the browned pieces in a roaster in a medium oven and roast until fork tender and nicely browned..Good stuff.

Hehehehe... I am absolutely ANAL about that, Culver.... I run a dry patch down the bore a couple of times, and then I always snap 2 or 3 caps to be sure the nipple is clear. Often I stick a little wad of tissue in the muzzle and make sure that the cap blows it out briskly.. Doing this, I have never had a misfire while hunting.. I hunt with a traditional sidelock and #11 caps, too .. Now, if I fire a shot in the woods and reload, I do not do this, just when loading a "clean" barrel.

Years ago, muzzleloading seemed so much simpler because there were not nearly as many options available as nowadays...<grin>.. Dom....A 12 gauge foster style slug and many sabot slugs weigh around 400 to 450 grains.. So, in comparison, a 300 to 460 grain muzzleloader bullet is not too extreme for deer... Dave... Cleaning a traditional hooked breech ML like the Hawken is relatively easy. First, remove the brass shim that holds the barrel to the stock. Detach the barrel from the stock. Heat up some water and a little dishsoap in a bucket, and place the BREECH end of the barrel in the bucket... Run a cleaning rod with a patch on a slotted tip down the barrel, and work it up and down, creating a suction in the barrel, until the water coming out the nipple is relatively clear. Drain the water from the barrel.. Swab with a couple of dry patches and set the barrel muzzle down in a warm place until it is dry. When it is dry, run an oily patch down the muzzle to prevent rust, Just remember, before you use it again, run a couple more dry patches down the bore to remove the oil. It's really much simpler than it sounds..

So THAT's what happened to Rex...

I know lots of guys who use scopes on thier turkey guns..They are a good option.. Just make sure you have a scope with a generous amount of eye relief. Shotguns kick HARD with magnum loads, and it would be very easy to get a bad case of "scope-eye" if you trip the trigger with your eye a little too close to the scope.

Rob... I have no hands on experience with the mini 14/30/ranch rifle, but I have read a fair amount about them.. One thing for sure...If your rifle does not cycle semi-auto, there is something wrong with it.. For sure there were no Mini 30s designed to function as a straight pull bolt action. My best guess would be that your gas ports need cleaning, but that is only a guess. I would recommend contacting Ruger first, and if they don't fix it, contact a good gunsmith. Good luck...

Anyone counting down the days till May 1st ?
Pygmy replied to HopkintonHunter's topic in Turkey Hunting
I hope you don't intend to carry your shotgun and bow at the same time.. Officer Ferndip might frown on that. It is illegal to carry a firearm of ANY description when you are bowhunting during the early bow season.. -

That is correct. Rifles are allowed in PA during the fall season, but not in the spring. -
I assume you have adjustable sights of some kind. Any shot load will do to sight in the barrel to point of aim. All shot loads should shoot to the same point of aim , unlike slug loads. Subtle differences in POI will be obscured by pattern spread. Sight in with the cheapest loads you can find, and then fire a couple of your hunting loads at 30 yards or so to confirm the sighting.

Hunter, good luck on the Maine draw... I applied there for about 20 years and finally gave up. Having said that, you can't WIN if you don't PLAY. If you get lucky and draw, Maine has very high success rates, and there are some fine moose in Maine. Yeah, Newfoundland is OTC, and there are plenty of moose there, albeit not a lot of big racks. It is indeed becoming pricey. You best be prepared to spend around 5K door to door.

They have to have a visible beard...If you can see a beard protruding through the breast feathers, it is legal. Bearded hens are relatively common in some areas, and jakes ( one year old toms during the spring season) will generally have a beard that protrudes from 2" to 6" from thier breast feathers.
