  1. After last nights excitement seeing my target buck I jumped out of bed 30 mins before my 5am alarm. Went for coffee, made a little drive around checking fields with my head lights but couldn’t see much with all this fog and rain. Snuck back out to the blind at 540. I can only hope a doe will come in for breakfast and bring big daddy with her. This rain sure does suck! After this weekend I think I’ll need to wear chest waders to go anywhere on my property.
  2. Well my heart was pounding tonight! Had my target buck come out into the field directly across from me. He turned and walked the field edge, stopping to make a scrape. He continued to walk the field edge and only got to 85 yards before catching wind of a doe that had just walked out of the field about 10 mins earlier. He must of seen her standing just off the cut field in the brushy stuff and followed her down to the creek bottom. I grunted at him multiple times trying to get his attention but he could care less once he had that doe near him. My heart was pounding away though so it was a good time! Looks like things are starting to heat up!
  3. 2 does, 6 pointer and 8 turkeys was this mornings total. Lots of rain[emoji849]. Headed back out in a few mins for the afternoon watch. At least it’s dry in there.
  4. Well my candy stash is filled for the season! Kids had a blast last night and have enough candy to keep them on a sugar high for at least 3 weeks. Haha. A lot warmer this morning. I forgot to check the temp on the weather station in the house and in the truck when I went to town for coffee. But it’s gotta be mid to high 40s. Just started to rain when I pulled back in from my coffee run. Still not seeing any rutty behavior around my area yet.
  5. Turkeys are yelping away in the pines. I’ve got a yearling hanging out in the field about 30 yards out. Feels very deery out.
  6. Haha nice! Yup this is when I fill up my secret stash in the cupboard above the microwave where the kids can’t reach. I grab a few pieces before each hunt, can’t go through cold gun seasons without some sweet sugary calories lol
  7. As I walked out of my garage this morning to head for my blind, a whole pack of yotes went crazy just down the street maybe 250 yards in a block of timber I can but haven’t hunted yet this year. I haven’t heard them in awhile, but I knew they had to be around. It’s hard to tell how many when they are all barking and yelping but it sounded like at least 10 different dogs.
  8. Saw a few doe last night. Trying again this morning. Cold 26 degrees and a thick layer of frost. Got in the blind at 6 again so I’m sitting here enjoying the warmth of the little buddy. I stacked some more hay bales and covered the top of the blind in a layer of hay yesterday around noon. Now it really looks like a big bale. The does that came by last night got within 15 yards and never even glanced over at me. Can’t hunt this evening, taking the kids out to hustle some candy from the hoytie toytie neighborhoods down the hill. Got to fill up on candy for hunting snacks!
  9. When I was walking in this morning it wasn’t raining and I was kinda kicking myself for not heading for a stand. Fast forward to about 30 mins ago and it’s downpouring. Now I don’t feel so bad!
  10. Well no deer seen last night. Where’d all my deer go!? Got in the same blind from yesterday morning at 6am. I love sitting in here with all the windows shut with the heater on early in the morning like this. Very peaceful. Trigger finger is getting itchy. Big mama does better watch out.
  11. New stand location and first time sitting it. Down in a creek bottom between two thick bedding areas. There’s a swampy area on the backside of the one bedding area. Hope to catch something moving in between these bedding areas in this bottom. Going to try some light rattling in a bit.
  12. Not a single thing seen so far. Very odd for this spot. Usually see a doe or two. Going to sit until about 11 then head in for lunch. Back out a little after 12 to a stand I haven’t hunted yet.
  13. Got up nice and early, took a relaxing shower and headed into town for a cup of coffee. Got home and headed out to my blind only to find both chairs I left out here are completely soaked. Guess I need to get some waterproof spray on this blind or get a small camo tarp over it. Good thing I’m close to the house as I ran back and grabbed a dry chair. Got the buddy heater on to try and dry out the inside here a bit. Rut-cation has officially begun! Come on Mr. 11 pointer!!!
  14. Came back to work early to finish out my week. Once I clock out, 1st week of Rut-cation begins. Can’t wait to punch that time clock! Picked up a new grunt tube this morning. My coworker is giving me funny looks while it sit here in the office and play with it. Quite a few deer out in fields on my drive back in to work. For everyone that’s out, keep your eyes open!
  15. Made the blind move and decided to try something new. Grabbed some bales from the neighbor and made my own redneck bale blind. If anything it should help hold some heat in! With all the rain in next weeks forecast, I think I’ll be spending quite some time in this.
  16. Tell her don’t feel bad I too saw a pig at a quick glance before I zoomed in. While we don’t have a resident population of wild pigs, you’ll hear of people getting one on camera now and then. Mostly farm raised pigs that have gotten loose and are surviving.
  17. Of course the weather has to look so crappy for the beginning of my Rut-cation. Thinking I’ll move a ground blind tomorrow into a better spot for using the bow so I can hunt the rainy days coming up next week.
  18. Defiantly a dog. Looks like a lab maybe mixed with something else but for sure dog. Slight blur in the picture could easily be why the snout looks quite large.
  19. 3 more days until vacation....can’t get here soon enough! Hoping I played my cards right and have some action this upcoming week! It’s been rough only hunting a handful of days so far, really hoping the lack of pressure will pay off in the end!
  20. 6 does so far. No horns yet. Wind is crazy. Probably going to head in for breakfast soon and come back out around noon-1 o’clock.
  21. Brrrr that wind is chilly. I’m parked at the north entrance to the farm drinking coffee for a few mins before I cross the field and get up in the stand. There’s a doe in the field already, saw her with the headlights when I pulled in. Hopefully don’t kick up to much more when I head to the stand. Good luck this morning everyone!
  22. Made it up a tree about an hour ago. Wind is absolutely perfect for this stand. Made a racket down on the south end of the farm today moving around a ladder stand so I’m hoping that will help push them towards me tonight on the north end. I have vacation time coming up soon, trying not to burn myself out yet or over hunt my stands.
  23. Still at work so no morning sit for me. Need to accomplish a couple chores this morning and hopefully get my buddy to stop over and give me a hand moving a ladder stand that I should of moved during summer. Then quick scent free shower and I’ll be up a tree for the afternoon. Looking to be pretty windy today and tomorrow, gonna be swaying like crazy up in those stands. Hoping to see some early rut movement though!
  24. Wasn’t a big team sport kid and that’s carried over to adulthood. I think I’d rather watch paint dry than watch football, baseball or just about any regular sport. Motocross is where it’s at for me. Even pay $55 a year for NBC Gold package just so I can watch the summer outdoor motocross national series. Luckily supercross is on regular tv programming. Just rewatched this past weekends Monster Energy cup race I like racing so much haha. Had to see Eli Tomac take home that million dollars again! Love seeing a green bike up front and on top🤟🏻
