  1. Forgot snacks. Not cool. Holding out as long as possible, but I’m guessing I’ll cave by 11.
  2. Mama doe and fawn were in the field before light. I thought I heard something out there in the pitch black. They fed for a bit and then headed off. The bucks can start moving annnnyyyyyyyy time now.....
  3. Week two of Rut-cation has officially begun! Didn’t feel like putting a bunch of layers on so I decided on ground blind and heater for this morning. Also thought it was going to be much windier than it is. Almost completely dead calm. I’ll see what the wind does later today and pick my afternoon stand from there. I saw a decent amount of bucks this week on my drive to and from work. Looked like bucks were in the seeking phase. I stayed out of the woods all week hoping the lack of pressure and waiting until closer to peak rut would pay dividends. Good luck to everyone out today, let’s put some bone on the ground!
  4. Your going to 3rd and I’m on my way to 1st. I’ve been on nights for about 7 years now. For the first 5 years I didn’t have much trouble staying awake. But these last 2 years it’s gotten much harder. I drink a cup of coffee here and there throughout the night but caffeine doesn’t really jolt me awake like it does for others. I’ve come to the point that I need to sit down between 2-4am and do short power naps, watch computer for a few mins to make sure mills are running ok, take another 10 min nap, back up to check computer, repeat until 4. Its become a real struggle some days to keep myself awake and going. I’m glad it’s almost over. But a 1st shift bid opened up 2 weeks ago and when I came back from my week off I hear I got the bid. So in a few weeks I should be on the 5am-3pm schedule. I’ll really enjoy not having to take Friday nights off to enjoy a weekend off away at camp.
  5. Lol. This is a good one. To the OP, I think you need to take a deep breath and take a walk. Going around calling cops making accusations without evidence is a bigger issue in my eyes than someone feeding deer. Not to mention the lesson you teach your kids that it’s cool to accuse people with no proof. Tons of people bait, I could call DEC today and give them addresses to at least 2 dozen properties that I’ve heard through the grape vine bait with corn. A couple of these properties are close to me, hell I even watched the one guy offload his 4 wheeler with corn bags on the racks and head across the road up to where he hunts. I could have easily taken a picture for that thing your lacking called evidence. But, I have better things to do in my life than get some guys balls busted over a little bit of corn. Now on the chicken thing, I’ve got over 100 free ranging. I feed them corn everyday. I have free access to all the corn I could ever need from work so I’m extremely liberal when feeding. I also have a connection for apples and pears and get a big delivery every week. All of this gets tossed into my yard. The deer hop my chicken fence and feed along side my chickens every day of the week. I’m not intentionally feeding the deer, but it’s happening. My neighbor who I bring corn to is also inadvertently feeding deer too. He drops the corn mixed with bread and the deer will come pick up what’s left after the cows are done. DEC going to start ticketing every farmer now because the deer are sneaking in and stealing some corn that wasn’t meant for them? I can’t count how many times I’ll come back from hunting, not seeing a single thing in the woods only to come home and find a couple does in my yard picking up whatever kernels might be left from todays feeding. If I had a neighbor calling DEC on me for this, I’d make sure he regretted ever picking up the phone.
  6. 2nd leg of Rut-cation can’t come soon enough.....this working stuff is for the birds. Few more days is all I keep telling myself, weather is gonna get cold to start my next week off. What’s everyone else seeing for snow fall forecasts for next week?
  7. O ya she was for sure a little different, but entertaining and nice enough. I heard she still logs in once and awhile. But hasn’t responded to anything.
  8. Last day of the first leg of my Rut-cation. Back to work tonight and for the rest of the week. Off again all next week, hoping the action will have picked up quite a bit more by then. Might make some stand adjustments during the week so I can be ready for next week.
  9. I think she got tired of people bashing her for her notoriously long posts and “kindle” misspellings. That and some guys would just pick apart every word she said. I don’t blame her, it got pretty harsh at the end. Not sure why those who didn’t like her couldn’t just scroll past her posts without berating her above every little thing they didn’t agree with.
  10. Thanks man. I didn’t have a scale around to weigh it but I would guess in the mid 20 pound range. It was a female. Didn’t measure the length before getting it in the freezer. Had to run some errands so I was kinda rushing on getting it cleaned up a bit and in the freezer before I had to leave. I’m going to have it full body mounted. Not sure which pose I want yet. My uncle is a taxidermist and I’m headed up to his place next week, I’ll drop it off with him and talk about which poses he can do for me. The hunt went pretty quick. From the time I saw her enter the field to the time I shot was maybe a minute. There was a few blue jays and doves in the field and the bobcat tried sneaking up on them. The birds spooked and then the cat turned and started to leave the field so I lip squeaked quickly and to my surprise she turned right around and came right at me. Only took a few seconds for her to close into 17 yards. I drew and waited for her to turn broadside before letting it rip. After getting hit she took off and ran 60 yards across the field and lunged into the brush. Found it about 15 yards into the brush. Been getting a lot of cats on my trail cams the last 3 years. This was the first time I’ve ever seen one though. Couldn’t pass up the shot though, going to be a real cool mount.
  11. Bobby the bobcat is in the freezer. Ripped and replaced the carpet in my one sons bedroom and took the family for lunch. Quick scent free shower and took a long walk down to this creek bottom ladder stand. I keep seeing a nice buck pushing does around at each end of this creek bottom where it meets the roads. Hoping to catch something pushing does through here tonight.
  12. Was almost late this morning. Forgot to set my alarm. Wife went over to a girlfriends house to drink lots of wine so I waited up for her to get home at 1am. Mama gets frisky when she drinks so I couldn’t miss out on that[emoji51][emoji12] after all the fun was over I passed out without setting the damn alarm. Had to skip the scent free shower but I still made my coffee run. A lot of deer out on my drive into town. Still a bit windy here, some pretty good gusts once and awhile. Just about to open the windows on the blind, hopefully big boy takes a stroll through today. Good luck today everyone!
  13. After a nice 2 hour nap at home I’m back out in the blind. Wind is crazy, no way I’d sit in a tree even though it’s not raining. Just turned the buddy heater on, time to kick back and see if anything is gonna move in these high winds.
  14. Almost ran into a real nice 8 point on my way back from a coffee run. Just around the corner from my house and the two does he was chasing ran down into the creek bottom that leads to the field I’m sitting on. Was awesome to see some rut action. Looks like a lot of wind coming this afternoon. I think I’ll ride it out and sit the blind anyways.
  15. Lmao! Idk man that’s just the way it came when I bought the stupid thing years ago. I think Primos made it, called Mrs. November. She’s a blow up doll. I never understood the ears and everyone laughs at her. She may be ugly, but once the rut kicks in those bucks are so horned up they will try humping anything willing haha!! I think the box said something about her being made to appear as a submissive doe ready to breed. [emoji1743]‍[emoji3603]
  16. Back out for the afternoon. Hoping big boy takes another stroll through looking for does. Got Mrs. November on duty tonight! Laid a estrous trail from the other side of the field where he came out last night across the field to the decoy. Hoping it will peak his interest enough to bring him to at least 50 yards.
  17. Not a single deer seen so far[emoji107][emoji2532]. It’s really pouring now. Feel like I’m gonna be trapped in this ground blind all season if this rain doesn’t stop.
  18. Sure has. That could be the answer. Between my buddy who’s out in Kansas right now, my old boss and a few other buddy’s, there’s supposedly a boat load of big deer running around out there this year. Must be a good year all across the Midwest.
  19. Haha ya getting stuck when out hunting sucks. I wouldn’t dare drive my truck back in this field I’m on right now. The first 200 ft from the road already has foot deep ruts from the last time I went through 2 months ago when it was a little dryer lol. I couldn’t get this field tilled up this year because of how wet it was all summer. My neighbor buried his Ford 7710 yesterday morning in one of his fields. The mud is unreal. He told me after 55 years of farming this place he’s never seen it so damn wet.
