  1. Be home from work around 8. Thinking of hopping into a stand for a couple hours before picking up my son from preschool. Still feels a bit early for much mid morning movement around my place but it sounds a lot better than the honey do list I’m trying really hard to ignore. I do have to fire up the boiler today, that’s something I’m not looking forward to at all! I can already hear the money flying out the chimney[emoji85]
  2. Good to know about the 10th being the hot day for our area! Since I only moved into our house 4 years ago I don’t have the impressive log of years past like you but I did notice the last 2 years of trail cam pics show high activity from the 8th-15th. Last year I had a little spurt of activity right around halloween which is what lead me to break up my 2 weeks off. I should start keeping better track of how many buck pictures I get for each day during the rut and see if I can start to narrow it down to one lucky day. Good luck to your and your grandson this season, hope you both tag out on some bruisers!
  3. Same thing happening over by me Grampy. Movement is a bit slow lately but the weather looks to steadily be getting better towards the end of the month. I took vacation 10/29-11/2 and then 11/12-11/16. Hoping I’ll catch good rut movement one of those weeks.
  4. Up in the stand I hung around noon. Trying the opposite side of the farm. One field to my left and another one at my 1 o’clock with a bunch of timber and swamp behind me. Hoping to catch something feeding through the acorns around me before heading off into the fields. Have a small doe feeding around me already. The wind is switching directions all over the place, hoping it calms down and picks a direction soon.
  5. Something’s off this morning. I’ve usually see at least a few does by now on this field. I’ve got about an hour left before I need to go replace rotors and pads on my truck and hang a new afternoon stand on the other side of the farm.
  6. I’m cheating this morning. Thermometer outside the house says 35 degrees with a 5-9 mph wind. Wind isn’t what I’d like for my field stand so I decided to skip the camo and leave the black sweat pants and hoodie on and camp out in the ground blind. I even brought the buddy heater out![emoji85] Sure is nice in front of this heater! Why do I even bother with stands anymore!?
  7. 80% vehicle failure rate during safety inspections. Sounds like they are running junk vehicles along with drivers who aren’t licensed properly. I hope they nail the owner and his son who’s supposedly running things. Better be some jail time for both of these scumbags.
  8. Unfortunately I know that intersection very well and a few of the dead....wasn’t close with any of them but I know who a few of them are. I feel terrible for their families and my other friends who are close with them. That intersection has been a terrible accident like this waiting to happen. Honestly I’m shocked this hasn’t already happened. I know there’s been big rigs that’s have blown that stop sign and gone through the parking lot of the Apple cafe and ended up in the fields behind it. It’s a very long down hill with no curves to help scrub speed. I’ve towed countless heavy loads up and down that hill and I know I’m not the only one who’s had some serious brake fade going down it. I’ve always wondered why they don’t restrict trucks and other large vehicles from traveling that hill. Hopefully now they will do something to stop this from ever happening again. The town and state have known this as a dangerous intersection for a long time now. It was only a matter of time before someone paid the ultimate price.
  9. That’s called a dead spider. But that’s what I call every spider![emoji51]
  10. Just had a young hawk chase a small bird right past my face! The hawks wings clipped my pack that’s hanging just in front of my. Scared the bajesus out of me. Almost knocked me out of the damn stand!
  11. Nice cool morning. Up in stand at 6. Got two does in front of me already.
  12. Man I want to get out in the stand right now. But I promised my boys I’d go to their karate class tonight. Can’t disappoint the littles! Good luck to everyone out this afternoon!
  13. I saw this on FB and a few other places all week. Then this morning my neighbor stops over to give me some bread for my animals and started telling me about his buddy who shot a massive buck down in Long Island. Neighbor is from Long Island and just recently moved up here a little over a year ago. He whips out his phone and shows me the picture of that buck. I said dang man small world I just saw that buck posted online the other day. Neighbor said he had been watching this buck on trail cams all year and he was basically land locked into a small piece of woods. I guess hunting small urban tracts has some big advantages sometimes!
  14. Last fall when I was out in Nebraska hunting we stayed in a small little town. The gas station down the street had a phone booth outside along the wall. Hadn’t seen one of them in a long time. We got a kick out of it and I snapped a pic
  15. Forgot to give an update from this mornings hunt. Saw 5 doe and the same 6 pointer from Monday. Needed sleep after getting home from picking up my son so I missed the afternoon hunt. Tomorrow is looking a bit too warm and wind direction is terrible for my stand so I’ll most likely sit out tomorrow. Friday is a big temp drop and the wind will be in my favor so I think I’ll wait until Friday to get back out.
  16. Haha very true. But it will do the job and you’ll even have a nice slight corn cover scent!
  17. Grab a bag of corn and bury your boots down in the bag. Fill them right up with corn. Make sure it’s whole corn as I’d think cracked corn would be a little messier. Corn sucks the odor and moisture right out.
  18. I’d just go pick up my boy and come back home and have him help me find it. His school is only 10 mins away so I’d only be gone 25-30 mins. That actually would be the best thing to happen, the boy would be so excited to help track down a BBD!
  19. Home from work at 808, changed and in tree at 820. Feel like crap but I have to pick up my boy from preschool at 1130 so I can’t go to bed yet so I figured I’d sit in my tree for a couple hours. Can’t kill em from the couch right?
  20. Ya I’ll be sitting out tomorrow as well if this forecast holds true. Especially now that I’m coming down with whatever cold sickness BS my wife and kids have. I can’t believe I saw any deer this afternoon with all the sniffling and sneezing I was doing. Might have to hit up the doctor tomorrow morning and get on the same amoxicillin my wife is on so I can kick this before it ruins any more hunting time.
  21. Snuck up into my stand with a 6 pointer, 2 doe and a spike 30 yards into the field. Feels very deery. Hope my big guy comes through
