My hunting partner’s grandfather’s favorite story was of Pancho, his beagle he lost one Sunday hunting off route 17. He had to get back to the Bronx to open the store Monday so left and couldn’t return until Wednesday. He pulled up Wednesday evening and parked the car in the same spot he left from Sunday night. Took a hike with @Chef today looking for some tree rats or hold over pheasants as he was scouting for a coyote spot. Good to be out even though no game was seen. Always curious as to the reasoning. Is it simply deer numbers or has the game changed so much that we are now seeing more deer than hunter before? I was brought into hunting from a college buddy whose Italian grandfather and father and uncle would load the guns and car from the Bronx after Thanksgiving dinner, drive up 87 and stay a few days. No scouting, no cameras, no scent free….no deer! Hunting for them was a week long card game interrupted by some time in the woods!
