Dr Seuss said it best…”I do not like it in a box I do not like it with a Fox…!!!!” Just about my sentiment regarding any inner tenderloin. Ridicule away but it’s inside marinading with all them death juices. Just not for me. These can’t be any cleaner from a heart shot last year….still gave them away. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I Chili is tomorrow’s dinner and empanadas are for my colleagues. I do like making some venison fans among my lefty/liberal/anti-gun teacher friends. Who knows, bow hunting access may result due to my good will!! I forgot to mention…I did use the heart of a deer in the empanada grind- no noticeable difference in texture or flavor but added just short of an extra pound so… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Only other shot may be the neck shot (if you don’t harvest the neck meat). That seems to drop them where they stand as well Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That’s the main reason why I like to cut my own…if it’s suspect I toss it which is also why my yield is nowhere near the max poundage on charts. I much prefer to have less but PERFECT meat and since doe tags are readily available (but not always easy to fill) I’d rather shoot an extra deer anyhow Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That’s unreal. If I found that I would call my wife and tell her to light the grill!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Awesome tracks and congrats. The “quartering to” shots are truly proving to be the most challenging. My biggest problem is recognizing what is truly broadside. I thought for sure my bow doe was broad side and yet looking at entry exit in the ribs clearly she was quartering to. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I use Evercalm as wolc described on my boots and like it. I don’t like seeing it on the trees in the area so I have started to wipe it on small bushes or down logs or even just some leaves. It’s worse than bright eyes for suspecting hunters in public ground. A guy I just spoke to uses skunk essence on his boots and around his stand…that’s dedication Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Settled in 3S off a rock wall opening- my new target buck thanks to @Biz-R-OWorld ( or any doe) will hopefully try to slip through soon … what a great feel in the woods- quiet, cloudy, calm! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
So many variables which makes the puzzles so complex: The arrow of the deer that started this thread showed gut-ish shot but now bloody like pic above. More washed out which was due to the arrow not clearly passing through and “cleaning off” some of the arrow as it dropped out. Blood showed bubbles and spray , arrow showed guts. … assuming a one lung and gut how long do you wait… My fear with leaving a deer is not really even knowing how long it’s dead. If I shoot at 5:00 ad don’t recover until 7 the next morning AND the deer died shortly after the shot…that a long time for the meat to be cooling down with the guts in there. My daughter has already picked out the name (Felix)of the wire haired dachshund we should get since I always talk about dogs needing two purposes..pet and hunter…she’s pushing hard for a pup (as she leaves for college in September!!) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I was thinking the same thing…may want to keep it on a rack though to circulate some air and get it outbid the “juices” in a bag or a pan Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Say for 3 hours overlooking a heavy run to a field. Two does pop out way out of distance. Took a slow walk back during the extra 30 (which is only good for 15-20 max IMHO) and saw three but couldn’t close the distance. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Ballz, masks come back tomorrow in Erie county
crappyice replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in General Chit Chat
So I am not a fan of the mask and only wear one when required. However to say masks don’t work at preventing the spread of illness seems to not be true based on my “data.” The school where I teach was open, full classes full day, all last year with everyone in mask. Put Covid aside (even though we had no major closure last year). The amount of colds, standard flu, pink eye and others were WAY DOWN last year. This year, we are again open with masks required but no one is really policing the kids wearing them and sports are wide open rarely wearing masks and the amount of colds, mono, pink eye is way up. Schools (even the best ones) are cesspools of germs and masks seem to keep some of the germs contained. Our Covid number remains super nonexistent by the way Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
