  1. The owner is willing to sell if for 65% less off what he was asking 10 months ago? And this is in Putnam county?? I don't know, this sounds a bit strange to me. Going down that much in a county that is pretty much suburbia these days seems very unusual.
  2. There's always Growalot and Paula as a last resort for you, Pygmy! LOL
  3. I've never had a trail camera stolen because I never put one out. That's about the only way you will be 100% certain of not getting one stolen. I get to see what kind of deer are in the area once I sizzle a bullet thru one and go over to gut it out. LOL
  4. Really? You think these meat only hunters would be given a free pass in killing wild animals? I would hope that it DOESN'T become a fad. That's a surefire way of completely decimating our wild game herds in my opinion. If everyone hunted it wouldn't be long before nothing was left.
  5. If you have young children, hunting needs to take a back seat. If you think you'll spend every weekend between Oct 1-Dec 15th out hunting with the wife having to handle everything else that is falling behind at home, then you have a saint for a wife. Very few will be happy with this setup. My hunting time has diminished drastically due to family in recent years, and honestly I don't regret it. I know what's more important in the long run.
  6. Hey, we are living in a society where cops are painted to be worse than rapists and murderers, how do you think they will look at us hunters who go out and shoot these poor defenseless animals? I think hunting is here to stay for my lifetime at least, but 50 years down the road? I don't think things will be looking too good.
  7. Which other currently produced rifles do you consider to be a plastic POS? No, some of these budget guns are not pretty, but they honestly ALL seem to work quite well and many are as accurate as guns costing several times more. There are things I don't like about them, but I don't think I'd call any of them a total POS. They will kill deer as dead as a custom gun.
  8. I hope you do tell us the true date you bought it. Just to prove you wrong I went back a few years thru Remington catalogs. The earliest I see a model 700 SPS listed is 2005, which is closer to what I said and nowhere near 20 years. Have a look for yourself. http://cartridgecollectors.org/ammunition-catalogs/Remington
  9. Now I just have to point this out. In the other thread you said you didn't buy a Remington in decades?? The model 700's with the SPS designation have only been around for 10 or so years if I remember correctly. If you own an SPS, you obviously have a relatively recent model Remington.
  10. Let's hope VJP doesn't own any of the ones recalled! Maybe we'll see them posted in the classified section next week. LOL
  11. Remington is not the only manufacturer to have recalls. T/C and Winchester made recalls recently. Kimber recalls? Here you go. http://www.kimberamerica.com/serial-84m
  12. Jeez, you even have a front deck up there. You could put a BBQ on it and grill sausages while you are hunting. Maybe the smell would bring in another big buck for you? Or better yet maybe a bear will come up to have a bite with you! LOL Better not tell anyone where your property is located, because they'll raise your property taxes for a structure that big. LOL
  13. With todays hunting mentality, I think many hunters would sooner share their wives than a record book trophy.
  14. Without a doubt one of the most interesting and unique guns ever put up for sale on this site!
  15. I can't speak for the guns they put out now, but I never had any issues with my two model 700's and one model 11/87. They were bought in 1985, 1989 and 1998, however. They have served me well. Some comments below the link suggest buying Savage rifles instead. I tell you, I wouldn't trade my 700's for any Savage no matter how accurate they claim to be. Most military and police snipers, along with the target shooting crowd still prefer Remingtons 700 actions, so you can take that for what it's worth. In the hunting field the 700 action has few rivals also. It's a solid, proven design. One piece solid bolt on the 700 compared to scores of parts on the Savage bolt. I know which one I'd choose.
  16. For Angela Merkel and the rest of Europe. There will now be 700 fewer Muslims trying to come in. http://www.cnn.com/2015/09/24/middleeast/stampede-hajj-pilgrimage/index.html
  17. Honestly, anyone who thinks it would be safe to have 4 or 5 hunters with rifles on 18 acres is NO hunter that I want to hunt with. Yeah, accidents don't happen often, but why would I want to risk my neck? I don't give a crap if that's the last piece of land I'd ever have the opportunity to hunt. No way would I hunt that place.
  18. Glad to hear that it wouldn't be an issue with you two. As I've said, I have seen it become an issue amongst friends even years ago. Knowing how much more selfish hunting has become today, I could see things getting ugly quicker than ever before.
  19. If you hunt in a place where you have more acreage to yourself, it will be less likely that you'll have to deal with those type situations. For example if you put a bullet or an arrow thru the buck of a lifetime, the deer can wander off a ways yet expire with no interference. If you hunt in a small area where your buddy is only a short distance away he may get the last shot that will put the animal down. Now comes the part where you think your shot would most definitely have been fatal, so will you be the one claiming the trophy? He may think otherwise. I don't know how excited you'd really be for your buddy in a situation like that? Given a choice I would try to avoid such situations, thus I prefer that each hunter have more space.
  20. I'd be comfortable with maybe one hunter per 30 acres. I've seen a whole bunch of hunters hunt in very small areas, but that is not my cup of tea. Even if the hunters know each other it's still too close for comfort for me. Just wait until one guy puts a round thru a nice buck and then it runs over to his "buddy" a few acres away where he puts it down for good. I've seen arguments years ago over something like that. I can only imagine what it would be like in todays competitive and selfish hunters mindsets.
  21. I just like to cover up my fingers, so I roll a condom on to each digit. I use the magnum sized ones for my wiener, so I need to use rubber bands to keep them snug on my fingers. I sometimes wish I were Italian and had the chubby fingers they have where I wouldn't need the rubber bands. Although with their short fingers the magnum sized condoms might be a bit too long in length. LOL
  22. I guess the key words are AS OF NOW. Builders would tear down mountains to put up structures that they could sell for top dollar. I think it all depends on the surrounding location of this property. If it's in an area that is being built up, it will probably continue to be built up. People who have kept land to hunt on will eventually sell it when good money is thrown at them. Money talks as we all know.
  23. What's that on the top right of your map? Are those homes or other structures? If they are, it would make sense why there are lots of deer around. That is usually the case in a suburban type setting where there is little hunting access. I don't know if I'd want to be the landowner of land that is surrounded by development. Before you know it there will be even more development and it will be far from a pristine private hunting spot. Yes, you might make a good buck when you sell it to people who want to develop it, but a peaceful hunting spot it probably will NOT be.
  24. I've always gutted them near where they fell if not the very spot. Down south it seems as if it's a taboo to gut a deer anywhere near where you will be hunting again. They will haul them away guts and all and then gut them just before they are ready to skin them. Drop the guts into a bag or pale from a hanging deer. Sometimes this is hours after the animal was killed. This never made sense to me, being that the temperatures are generally warmer down there. I guess traditions are a hard thing to break.
