Great buck! Congratulations on your first too! -
That place is hoppin'!!
-
Got pics of a doe like that before, but don't know what it is.

Get one of those trailcams that text you pics, real time! You'll know when they're in the stand and can call the cops to walk out there with you and surprise them.
-
Moving during the day too! NICE!!

I'm confused. So there was no sign (hair, blood, tail down, stumbling deer, ect...) of a hit?
-
Great buck and great story! Congrats!

What a gnarly looking rack! He's a keeper!

They're blaming the coyotes lack of fear of humans. Then lets give them a reason to FEAR us... Choot 'em!! http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/video/colorado-man-fights-off-coyotes-survives-20595763

I tried some anti-fogging stuff (can't recall the name) several years ago. My glasses didn't technically fog, but instead water droplets seemed to form all over my glasses, so I still couldn't see anything... If you find anything that really works, please post it up and give a report!

Funny!! Certainly not what I was expecting!

Sorry to hear! It's certainly hard seeing your kids in pain. When my daughter was 4, she had an issue with a lung and needed surgery. I'll never forget the heavy heart that I had as I carried her into the operating room in my arms and laid her on the operating table, as she was smiling and looking up at me, trusting that Daddy wouldn't let anything happen to her. All is good now, 10 years later, and she's my hunting buddy. Just let your son know that it'll get better...

Vince - Last year, I made a mock scrape ~15 yards from my stand (only good location with an overhanging branch). I watched a good buck come in, like he was on a string to it! Mentally, I already had him wrapped and in the freezer! He came in downwind from my scrape, got 20 yards from it, put his nose in the air to scent check it (I neglected to freshen the scrape that morning before hunting), and just turned and wandered away. Still haunts me! I believe if I there was fresh scent in the scrape (BTW, I use my own), there would have been a better chance that he would have come in to investigate or work the scrape himself.

Sweet mother of Pearl!! Great bucks Paula! That should get you fired up!!

I wear my contacts ALL the time while hunting. I forgot one time, and learned my lesson! The biggest problem have with wearing my glasses hunting is because of them fogging up. I hit a doe a couple years ago and she ran into a nasty thicket. I started tracking and my glasses fogged up terribly!! The blood trail wasn't great anyway and the glasses were so fogged up, I couldn't see anything! Had to take my glasses off and had one hell of a time tracking! Hands and knees!! NOT FUN!! Then, I got so deep into the thicket, without my glasses I couldn't see tall landmarks in the distance either, so I had a hard time finding my way back out! Lesson learned!!

Yeah, .257 Roberts. She was shooting a .117gr Remington factory load. My Dad had a full box of ammo for it, so I haven't looked for any more. I was talking to my cousin in MD over the weekend and told him that I had never heard of that caliber before. He said it is probably the most popular caliber for youth and women down in his area. He just bought one for his son too. I did a lot of Google searches over the past month or so and guys just love the .257 Roberts. Figured I would just let her use that, as it's right inbetween a .243 and .270. Did the job!

One caliber that hasn't been mentioned yet is the .257. My 14 year old daughter used one during the youth hunt and dropped a deer in its tracks. Doesn't appear to have any kick either. I had never heard of a .257 before, but my Dad won it (Ruger) in a gun raffle 8 years ago and passed away before he ever had a chance to use it. I thought it would be a good gun for her to take her first deer with...

To those that are directing comments to eachother... Do you not have the balls to just PM eachother?? Do those of us a favor that would rather enjoy the site and try to keep things positive, then listen to your bitching, namecalling, egotistical rants, and opinionated views? We didn't make the law, so if you don't like it, bitch at those that did!
