Cabin Fever

So I'm attending a corporate meeting with the team from Germany this morning and I have 6 turkeys 20' away at my bird feeder! They were there for 2 1/2 hours!! How's a brother suppose concentrate with that kind of distraction?? Talk about pressure!!

Out of curiosity, I looked up what age wild turkeys stop laying eggs. I only found one source, but it said they usually don't live that long in the wild to get to that point. We seem to have an over-abundance of coons, fox and coyotes, so maybe that's the problem... The flock of hens are still lounging in my yard 3 hours later now! LOL I enjoy the view from my home office MUCH more than I do my work office!!

I've been having 6 hens coming into my yard pretty frequently. They usually hang out for an hour or so feeding in the clover, under the bird feeder, and preening themselves in the sun. They certainly feel comfortable and safe in the yard, as they squat down and rest for long periods too. It's kind of disturbing that they've never had any poults with them! I would think poults would be big enough by now to venture out with the hens.? Just no poults between the 6 of them??

When is the trip? I'm envious!

The videos are from the SD card. I've heard rumors that the next model is supposed to be able to transmit video, but don't hold me to it. I like the Tactacams, because you can set them up to take pics and video during same trigger event. I have mine set to take a 3 pic burst, then immediately roll right into a 30 sec video. Get the best of both worlds, I guess!

I never expected to take off like it did! LOL At my old camp, I tried a couple of times to grow clover plots by doing it by the book (ie. plowing, discing, soil testing, fertilizing, applying lime, seeding, mowing, etc...), but I never had a thicker-better-looking-weed-free-clover/chicory-plot as I have in my backyard now, by just broadcasting seed into my lawn! Crazy! Maybe the different brand of seed made a difference, I dunno, but I'm thrilled with the results! It probably helped by NOT plowing and stirring up those dormant weed seeds. My order is suppose to arrive tomorrow. I'll check the test date and let you know.

This past spring, I seeded the back half of my yard with Imperial Whitetail Fusion (clover/chicory mix). No ground prep at all, just broadcasted it into the existing lawn, hoping it would grow to have a decent plot. I’m amazed how well it took off and really took over the grass that was back there! I mow it with my lawn tractor, that has a max height cut of 4”. Every week when I mow, it’s 10-12” tall! I wanted to get another bag to seed spots that have holes in the clover plot. I came across this very informational video from the NDA about CWD in PA. It's 2hrs long, but worth the watch! I use to hunt in southcentral PA (Bedford County) every year with family and it sucks to hear that area is now considered the "CWD Hotspot" in PA. In 2019, 8% of the deer that were tested were positive CWD. in 2020, 14% of the deer tested positive for CWD! Some counties in WI have a 30-50% positivity rate! Interesting to note that deer can be positive for 18-24 months, before they show symptoms of being sick! The CDC says that there's no risk of eating CWD positive deer, but they discourage you from eating known CWD positive deer. The NDA states they "Strongly encourage hunters in CWD areas have their deer tested, before eating any and not to give it away until known also". This is a very interesting and educational!
