Sept 1st bow opener?
BUCKANDAQUARTER replied to Four Season Whitetail's's topic in General Chit Chat
Upstate you are close to the NZ border as well. I think I will take advantage too. I've got some land to hunt in Fort Ann, looks like I'll be scouting while sugaring. Actually I am supposed to go for some small game up there tomorrow, looks like I can do some scouting then. -
check out his first topic he posted and see the warm invite he got.

Mendon or Rush property

lol, i know what you mean, in fact i preach it to a lot of people who don't know of the concept. first impressions are everything to a lot of people and i can understand you writing the forum off completely... i am sure larry was joking, but i can't speak for him. there are other young serviceman on here too. oh, i wouldn't dream of telling my wife to go to a gym, it'd be a death sentence. i'd need a little more tact than that! -

Welcome aboard aasapper! Give the forum a chance. Some are wise asses and you will want to strangle them (that's sarcasm folks) in some debates, but then you will find common ground on another. Thank you for serving our country, and welcome home. I hope you find what you are looking for, I would think someone in your area would allow a serviceman to join them for a hunt. There is no harm in trying once you get past the remarks. -
Stew meat is still good in my book, and I will always choose not intentionally ruin it.

And NYers

if you want to waste meat.

I mostly agree with you. Deer 1,3,4 weren't anything like #2. Deer 1,3,4 offered vitals at least. The video rubs me the wrong way.

Gun Registration in NY

Gun Registration in NY
BUCKANDAQUARTER replied to RemingtonChevy's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I had someoe break in and steal my guns about two years ago. I bought a newer 870 off a guy I know a few years back who lives in VT. He bought the gun from Dicks in Saratoga. The Washington County Sheriff (NY) called him when they recovered the gun, and he in turn got a hold of me. He couldn't rmember my last name so he had to go through mutual friends. I had all my documented (SN#'s, photos) on my guns and recovered all of them. Now they have info on all my vintage firearms obtained before the SAFE ACT so they are all in the system. They know exactly what I own, and if I were fond to be in posession of another firearm without getting a backround check I lose everything. I have family guns passed down through the years so what am I supposed to do if I want to go to one of my family members and want to take a particular family heirloom out in the field? We both get felonies? This law is such a POS for so many reasons, it makes criminals out of us law abiding citizens. -
sure it is, but taking shots that increase those chances and then posting a video of that isn't the best move for our image.
-
That is another good point when discussing our public image. If I showed this video to the landowners where I hunt and said I plan on doing this, I would be booted immediately.
-
So if the general public will only condone hunting for population control, why would they support the state in letting them live longer to fulfill the desires of us "evil" hunters? I guess what I am trying to say is the state has it's own agenda, money. They make a lot of money off of hunting aka "population control". It is quite obvious population control is needed, I think that us hunters will be fine.

So why has NY decided to look into restructuring AR's to promote mature bucks?

#2 wasn't a good shot to take. If that deer was standing there in that position it wouldn't be an ideal shot to take. You'd have to blow apart the front shoulder to get at the vitals. If that isn't a crap shot what is?
-
There it is!

Awesome!

Someone pointed it out to me that Early just likes to stir the pot, sit back and enjoy the show. I chuckle now whenever he chimes in.
-
I was asking you grand-poomba-righteousness am I a hunter?
-
I have shot all but one of my 13 deer from the ground, so I am 12/13ths hunter.

Nice vid, thanks for sharing it!

A little perplexed (deer processing timing)
BUCKANDAQUARTER replied to BUCKANDAQUARTER's topic in Deer Hunting
My wife just got a text saying it is done. Not sure why it took 3X longer than usual. That is all he does for work this time of year. Not a deal breaker for me. -
My position is if one takes a risky shot with a higher chance for the deer to get wounded, take off and never be found it is unethical. Not sure if you were talking to me or not but I figured I'd chime in. I am not trying to stir the pot.

I have had to finish off one deer. It was a fairly close broadside shot and my scope was off for some reason. It was a miserable situation and I hope that I or anyone won't find themselves in that situation... I just try to take the shots that offer decent placement to minimize the chances of that happening. I don't see what that has to do with taking the shot on the #2 deer. There was hardly a good shot to try to take there.
