  1. Well the weather man was actually right. Got about 8". I was figuring we would get 3" from the track record they have had. Looks like I am stuck at home with my turbo front wheel drive beater. I wish I had hurried up and put my truck together (changed clutch). Now do I wake the wife and see if she needs the Xterra?
  2. Did the "hail mary" of hunting. Got done watching the kids at about 2:45. Got to my parking spot a little after 3:00. Pretty much sprinted up the mountain through the "no deer land". Got a few hundred yards from the feeding area where I planned to sit and slowed it down. About 50 yards from where I was going to sit I jumped a huge deer. Couldn't see horns but wouldn't be suprised if it was Mr. Big. And that's all I saw. If I had only asked grandma to watch the kids when the wife was working...
  3. sitting here drinking hot cocoa plotting my afternoon hunt. I have just today and tomorrow andthen it's over.
  4. Oddly enough, today I had a close encounter with a bobcat. Walked in and marked it territory on a sapling and eventully got about 20 ft from me, headed right at me. It didn't know what to think of me, so of course I meowed at it like a house cat LOL. It cowered, almost wincing, like a dog that was about to get punished for getting in the trash then slowly walked off. Pretty damn cool.
  5. Nice! He does look pretty heavy
  6. I just realized me venison provisions are down a lot further than I thought. I have 1 backstrap, 3 stew meat, one roast, one steak package left. And I just know santa is bringing me a dehydrator for venison jerky. I skipped out on yesterdays and this AM hunt. I better get out there!
  7. Upstate, that was a certainly a thought, I don't know if they have ML in captivity there. I'm sure it would have made the news if one had indeed ecaped. If you know anyone from the Salem, East Geenwich ask them about sightings about 8-10 years ago. I wouldn't be suprised if you find someone who has heard about it, like I said it was in the Eagle.
  8. Wow... people can admit that there have been a few cats in nys at some point in time recently, but when someone comes forth with a sighting they are immediatly liars... I do know the difference from a Bobcat and a Mountain Lion. Grow you even admit there may be a select few in the state at some point but you relate it to seeing a UFO?? I think the chances of seeing one are equivalent to winning the lotto.
  9. I got that info second hand. I just know what we saw. I guess a mans word isn't of value to many people anymore. You guys don't have to believe me. People have seen Mountain Lions in NY. Like I said it is a very, very rare occurance and I highly doubt that I will ever see one again. DEC certainly doesn't take peoples word on these matters so I understand some of you won't either.
  10. I have heard there were photos that were given to DEC by a landowner on that road, but that could be BS. Also just found an article on another forum where someone from town reported seeing one.
  11. I wear boxers, but thanks for noticing they were twisted! Seriously though I have no doubt that it was a mountain lion. No I don't have a photo. I was driving with my neighbor over Raefield Farm Rd in East Greenwich NY to Argyle to tow his car back to his house. It crossed the road almost with a single bound. On a another occasion I saw it in almost the same exact spot. Both times it was haulin' ass. There haven't been sightings in years and I doubt that I will ever see one in the wild agan. Whether it escaped from somewhere or it was "passing through" I don't know, a ton of people saw it.
  12. For the record I don't think there are but maybe a few in the state at any given time. Why people would lie about something like seeing one is beyond me. What good comes from it? Nothing.
  13. Are you calling me a liar? There were other people with me if that's what you mean. Call the Eagle newspaper they wrote the artcle.
  14. And why do you insist on being a miserable ol' coot? Good God Early!
  15. I have seen a mountain lion in ny. pretty much everyone in the area saw it. there also was an article in the local paper about it. that was about 10 years ago. I actually saw it twice, in the same spot, more or less.
  16. He is from Vermont, and muzzleloader is still going on there as well. I know he is a hunter, and is informed of seasons. I ran into him last year when I was hunting the other side of he road. There is no use in talking to him, he has a ton of work ahead of him. But I really don't think his Jeep will be able to make it up there again, the leaves insulated the ground enough in some spots so the frost never penetrated the ground. I am just praying that the big one doesn't step over to the other side of ridge where the army will be waiting for him.
  17. Got out of work early today, and I have the rest of the week off (between projects)! Looked at the flag pole and the flag is wrapped around at least twice. I hate wind change, but I will probably head out for the afternoon.
  18. NYAntler-Outdoors.com.... Full of horn porn, lol I had never heard that one before. ADKHunter is also a great one
  19. I am not trying to play devils advocate but... I have got some decent deer out of this one particular area. I have ran into several guys this year alone that have seen my car and seen me and say "hey you hunt up off of such and such rd don't you?" In addition to that another guy I know got permission to hunt a parcel that boarders where I have hunted for years. I would walk thrugh fire to hunt that land. He has seen the bucks I have gotten out of there, and somehow he got in an "in" with the psycho owner and is blasting the deer before they make it off her land to mine. I can say I am a bit jealous now he is knocking down 200#ers. I would be very wary of posting pics on FB around here. Again that is just me in my situation. I live in a small town, full of hunters. Just thought of another example I drove up to Stewart's one year with a big buck in the back and it took me an hour to leave because people were striking up conversations, and again "oh I've seen your truck parked on ... RD."
