  1. I most certainly would if the other folks around me would. I have been trying 3 on 1 side the last several years, and even then i try to let 1.5s that qualify as 3 on 1 walk. i have passed up a lot of spikes,3,4's, but i got a 1.5yr 8pt with my bow. Opening day i passed up a 4 point and an old timer shot him 150 yards from me. his grandson got a spike about 20 minutes before that. I had a nice chat with the older gent and helped him drag the 4pt. it was a good time.
  2. yeeaaaaahhhh. the only thing they would need is two tags from me.
  3. old timer i talked to said he found 6 dead doe/fawns curled up in pines this past spring. that was on about 50 acre block.
  4. went out this pm at the new 100 acre parcel. walkedto ajoining 50 acres i hunted about 8 years ago. made my way to a thicket and that little voice told me to top and sit.... i didn't of course. walked about another 20 feet to where i wanted to sit... 3 or 4 flags bounded out of the thicket. why is it i never stop when i know i should and end up jumping deer?found yet another huge rub on 6" diameter maple.
  5. Bubba you are right, I understand that it is against the law and that if it was legal some fools would try to take advantage of it and poach deer. I just think it is a shame that we could be punished for doing the ethical thing that we as hunters should strive for, quick kills. Ahh well. As Jennifer said I hope none of us will ever have to cross that bridge.
  6. yeah the surcharge is $90 where i am. and the ticket itself is a lot more than $25. And that is going back at least 7 years. Oh this wast through the sheriffs. Happy Brithday!
  7. wow, what a waste of a news segment. basically they are saying just drug your dog and lock it inside for the rest of gun season.
  8. Another thing popped into my head, we are allowed to kill coyotes at night but putting a suffering deer down is illegal?
  9. roads look sick as heck here, might be an interesting drive. update: steppd outside and winds are about 25mph steady, gusting to 40. i hate to say it but i am bedding down.
  10. LOL nice work. Can I swing by tomorrow and give it a whirl? haha...
  11. I understand, i too am not trying to argue with anyone at all, i respect everyone's decisions. i just couldn't stand it, letting an animal suffer for however long it takes to make that call. it would take me two hours (round trip) to leave my woods to get to an area to make a call and get back to the deer. it seems unnecessary to let it suffer to make a phone call in which the reply would be go back and shoot it.
  12. this is true. must be tough to get a fire going banging rocks together in the wind.
  13. I have been trying to figure you out ever since you first pissed me off. You are one of those guys that just likes to try to get a rise out of people aren't you?
  14. Why don you insist on sassing people over anything you don't like? I haven't used a marinade in years, but I might try one just for you.
  15. There are few situations where I would gladly take a fine to do the ethical thing. If I had to execute a deer just after legal hours I would. I wouldn't even consider leaving any animal to suffer to go make a BS phone call to DEC. I'm sure some would agree.
  16. Yeah me neither. Just two trespassers that just got done pushing the two low pine ridge/small swamp ravines i had planned to hunt. I ended up going up to the top pine/spruce ridge. Nada.
  17. huh... i was talking to the butcher about a doe i saw this doe i passed up because its ribs were showing, they said shoot it and call DEC and they will replace the tag. said "really, no questions asked?" they said "yep, we've had customers do it with injured or sick deer." maybe it depends on the situation (bad meat as bubba pointed out) as well as the DEC officer. next time i see them i will get some more info on their experiences. i wouldn't hesitate to put one down but it kind of takes the wind out of a season. thanks for the info folks.
  18. in the living room waiting for the wife to return so I can go out... trying not to get grumpy.
  19. Fiesty little bugger. I helped an old timer drag a 4 pt he shot about 150 yards from my stand on opening day this year. That 4 pt's antlers were rubbed over a 1/4 of the way through. It was weird as heck! He actually had little tiny wanna-be brow tines.
  20. CALL DEC. They will issue you a new tag since it was a mercy kill. My butcher told me that this year. Good job taking them out, better than a long lingering demise. Some people are indeed hacks. I understand stuff happens, but twice on the same land??? Someone needs some practice, patience, or a seeing eye dog.
