  1. I started this post to see what everybody was shooting. I actually got some damn good info thanks guys. Like I said I am just over the 500 grain mark and my arrows are shooting very good with field tips and fixed blade broadheads. I struggled for awhile because some one told me to go lighter withthe broadhead when I first stared and I finally went witha heavier one and tightned my groups up.
  2. I undrstand the combo of speed and a light arrow. You will get pass throughs. WHen it comes down to deflection though a heavier arrow will penatrate farther and be harder to stop. It is physics when it comes down to it. Take a train that is 6 tons and a bike that is 800 pounds which one will a 6 foot thick concreat wall stop fatster. The exemple might be a little drastic but it shows the point. Those light arrows might travel faster and you get the pass throughs but they will deflect alot easier from hitting twigs or bone.
  3. 800 grains now that is an arrow that will travel through. I would like to get mine a little heavier but they shoot good and They blow through a deer.
  4. Do you guys know how many grains your arrows are. I am running around 538 grains. I have a 125 grns broadhead the rest is the arrow shaft ,insert feathers etc. The heavier the arrow the better the penatration. Physics baby.
  5. Absolutly I have the martin vision warmed up shooting every night. The shots might have to be a little closer and you have to know your bow and capabilities in and out but that is what makes it so much fun. first one is my biggest and the second one is last years.
  6. Who can read here we just post answers to the question. We are suppose to read the question first?
  7. I have no problem with it. Meat is meat it doesn't matter how it died. Some people say that road kill is tuff because of the adrenalin but I don't think so.
  8. Money doc that is the reason they are in the states? That drives everybody. Sometimes the end result is sad because of it.
  9. Always have two to three packs of granola bars with me. Every year i find ones i left in my pack as long as my hounds havn't found them first.
  10. Heart is great you just have to becarefull not to overcook it.
  11. If you right click on the pic and hit edit. There will be a little thing when it pops up that says resize and you can usually resize it to what ever you want.
  12. I think it would leave a bad taste in my mouth that is for sure. I bet they make some pretty good money though and if you never lost track of your roots you could have some major land with your own way to hunt and not be like those tv shows. Plus you never know maybe start your own show and show people how it really is out there. Not just climb in a big fenced in area and shoot big bucks all day.
  13. I wonder if they are trying to make a big deal out of it so people will do something about it so they won't over run NY. I don't think they are a good thing to be running freely around this state but then again my freezer could use some pork!
  14. I agree that you can tell a big deer before he steps in the danger zone. The only problem I have is when a guy says he sees them year after year hunting in the woods and can never get a shot off. I would think that over a five year period if you where seeing 10 12 14 pointers that at some point you would get a shot at them and have proof that they do exist. Exemple trail cam pics video etc.
  15. I think I am going to offer 450 for it see what he says
  16. Some times a big boy walks in and you just can't get a shot and can count the tines but every year and he doesn't have a big deer to show for all these that he says he see. Even during gun season. I agree if you are counting tines during gun season you should be able to get a shot off not all the time but if you are seeing them every year all the time. Plus you have to take in the caracter when you are talking to them. Some people you can tell that they are filling your boot up with Sh**
  17. Talking to a guy and he was one of these I see 10-12-14 pointers every year but never gets a shot guys. He was telling me how he feeds the deer from the spring time till hunting season but then he stops right before hunting season starts. I find it hard to believe that he just stops feeding them. He has pics of deer on camera nothing huge but deer all the same. some of these people are crazy he also slipped in that he keeps a salt block around. There are all types out there that is for sure.
  18. I alwats carry some extra stuff. ALways have a first aid kit (hiking type) matches and a compass (old school kind no batteries). The only thing that I don't carry in my everyday hunts in the woods is a mirror wich i am trying to find a good one. I might just spend 25 dollars and get one of the nice compasses with a mirror on it.
  19. I thought that in the adirondacks you could but the catskills you can't. I don't know if i heard that right but i heard somthing to that effect.
  20. Just got my new open shot deluxe treestand had it up the tree and carried it around. It is so light compared to my other one. Can't wait for the season.
  21. I have some judo points and some blunts. I just had the broadheads laying around the house and have had them for years. So I thought I would put them to good use.
  22. I am looking at a ruger 30.06 for sale it hase a lightweight sythetic stock on it all stainless steel witha leupold scope. Apon looking at it it looks like the scopes is one of the lower models. The gun itself is in great shape looked like it was well taken care of. Any info on the gun and a price for a used one would be of great help thanks.
