  1. In New York I think it is illegal for anybuddy to sell a treestand without a saftey harness.
  2. I have heard you dont't want to shoot them before the first frost also. Never the eating part though. I have taken a few squirrels and they have big grub like worms in their fur. After skinning them though there is no sign of that worm/grub thing. I have eating those squirrels also but that might explain a few things to my friends. I would think like everything if you cook it right you will be fine.
  3. I have done it unintentionally. The deer droped in its tracks but it was a mess to clean. WHen I took the shot the bullet went right up through the lungs and took out some of the top of the heart but it does go through the stomach first. I wouldn't take one on purpose that is for sure.
  4. A bowstringer makes a huge difference. No more sticking it through your legs trying to loose an eye.
  5. I also use 125 with a hybrid recurve/long bow. I was having problems with flight untill I switched to 125 grn broadheads. My arrows right now are 538 grns. full weight.
  6. If i sign a doe tag over to a friend and he hunts with me for the day can he give me the tag back at the end of the day?
  7. Lookng to get a book on whitetail deer i don't want a biology sleeper book. Something that is interesting and will keep my intrest but teach me something. I am not looking for deer hunting book persay but something more relative tot he species.
  8. NY you better watch you and put a disclaimer of fair chase. Because I am thinking I might invest 2-5 grand to get your salary for a year
  9. The first couple look like female mallards don't know what the last one is i would guess it is a wood duck but it has no green on it.
  10. I took mine out because It was near a swamp and I set it low. Mine would have been under the water. Good thing yours was alright.
  11. I have to make two seats for my climber and hang on treestand but that is a after work one night project. Then the usual keep praticing and desenting my clothing and just making sure the equiment is all up to par.
  12. I thought the ehd happend when it was very dry out and was carried by noseeums.
  13. I do agree that the recurve does limit you but I know I can't shoot past 20-25 yards and I stick to that rule. I had a nice 8 pointer in fornt of me last year. He was around 30 yards and there was no way I would have taken the shot. 30 yards in the woods is long shot with a bow 50 is even longer. The only problem I see with a 50 yard shot is that I know people can't see that little twig thatin the way. Sometimes you get lucky and get a clear shot but the way that arrow travels and the difference in sight picture at 50 yards is different and I would never chance the shot. In a range it works great and in an open field no wind I just don't think it is a wise shot. I am not saying you can't do it but 40-50 yards leaves alot of error to be had.
  14. Yeah they are left over broad heads that I never used. I think they where 10 dollars for three when I bought them. So if the break i really dont care. I have used big blunt and the squirrels get up I couldn't believe it. I had a judo point with arrow attached going up the tree is a squirrel before. They are tuff little buggers.
  15. Where do you find this stuff? Ace, lowes?
  16. Honestly it doesn't matter. I have a recurve that is very short 55 1/2 inches strung and it pulls 44 pounds at a 29 1/4 inch draw. I used that for the first three years I deer hunted and killed 3 buck and a doe. I put a shot a little high on one and it broke his spine at 10 yards. I now hunt with a martin vision which is a hybrid bow. That bow id 65 1/2 inches and I pull around 52 lbs at 29 1/4 inch draw. I shot a deer last year at 17 yards and put it straight through the ribs into the front leg on the other side and the broadhead was in the bone. The main thing you have to be is comfortable with your bow and pratice like hell. A recurve is a passion, it isn't something you put together one year then two days before the next season starts you pick it up to make sure the pins are on. Oh and if you are looking to sell that bear grizzly let me know. I have been looking for one for awhile.
  17. Didn't attach them before sorry
  18. Just made up to new arrows just for the squirrels in the back yard. Cant really shoot in my back yard so I figured since I was putting together some arrows i would put two just for those pesky squirrels. I have peach trees and I didn't get a bumper crop and then the squirrels got the rest so now it is war.
  19. I use tex tite i just rub the string back and forth to get it warm and it melts right in. Works like charm for me.
  20. I think it is sort of like boots if you start putting oil on them you have to keep putting oil on them. I wax my string twice during the hunting season and during the year when i am shooting. They seem last for me I am constanly abusing them throuhg the brush and with a recurve i get alot of sticks stuck in the limbs.
  21. If you need just extend your rope and are worried if it still will be safe why don't you try going to one of the saftey clothing wear stores or somebody that would supply fall arrest systems. I am pretty sure you can replace the fall rope and they come in different lengths so you could possably find one that would let you rotate around the tree. Don't know how expensive just the lanard would be, but it is your life so I would think a little money could be spent.
  22. I am using aluminum arrows with feathers. I am having a problem keeping the feathers on the arrow. The glue just isn't holding. I have loctite household repair and duco cement neither seem to be working all the great. Any other suggestions would be great i am looking to switch so i can keep my feather on.
  23. I have hunted area of heavy presure and area that aren't pressured at all. The whole 10 to 2 things is very repetitive throughout my jornal. It seems that in the pressured areas the deer pattern the people and move when they aren't there. which by records is after 9 till around 2. Most people aren't in the woods then and they feel comfortable to move (i guess). In the non presured areas it seems that the deer (does and young bucks) move freely throughout the day but the big bucks move midday or just before evening unless pushed by something or someone! It also seem that they don't show untill the does start coming into heat. They are big for a reason Smart
