Am I the only one here with a wife who's totally cool with stuff like this?? I've cut up deer in the bathtub, quarter them on the dining room table, age them in the fridge, and then cut them up on the coffee table. even caped out my moose head while watching tv. my wife helps me do euro mounts for Christ sakes. what's the big deal???

did some light rattling yesterday morning and had a real nice 8 pointer come in real cautiously. 70 yards was the closest he got then circled around me up the hill and must have caught my wind from the rising thermals

Just saw 2 bucks sparring on the neighbors property. Both 8 pointers but one was clearly older than the other. Definitely a shooter for me, rack was wider than his ears. my father inlaw brings his to Berkshire View Farm in Alcove. they do a real nice job and I believe they do sausage and stuff too.

Yes I do. My teacher does his own tanning for deer and small game. Anything bigger than a deer he sends to a tannery. I'm sending out my moose cape in a few days! Sent from my SM-J327T using Tapatalk

I took a taxidermy course this past spring and am looking to get a couple more mounts under my belt this season. I've done 3 deer shoulder mounts and recently took a fish course and have done a few bass and trout. plus I've been doing my own turkey fan mounts for years. I'm also doing a shoulder mount on my Maine moose in a few weeks. if anyone in or around the capital region would like something mounted this season, hit me up. maybe don't bring me the buck of a lifetime just yet as I am still just a beginner. i'll do deer shoulder mounts for just the cost of materials (around $100) not looking to make any money at this yet just need the practice. pm me if anyone is interested

yea, shoulder mount. I took a taxidermy class last april so im gonna do it myself. im actually gonna bring it to my teacher and have him help me with it

if you put in for a cow tag it increases your odds by almost 40% which you could possibly swap for a bull but it's no guarantee. I just flat out got lucky

only 3 years, wish I didn't mention that to some of the guys at camp. some have been putting in for almost 30

while we were taking pictures, the guide said your gonna get sick of smiling. I said "No I Won't!!!"

Day 1, rained all day but we saw lots of sign then had a cow call to us from about 30 yards in the woods but it was so thick we couldn't even see her. sure did get the blood pumping though. Day 2 we saw a huge cow right at first light so my guide told me to get ready in case she had a bull with her. well I look through the scope and can't see a thing. it fogged up on the inside. I started to panic but the cow was alone. went back to camp and the guide let me use his rifle. 30-06 browning semi auto. he happened to be bear hunting the week before so he had it with him. went back out that afternoon and stumbled on a small bull about 40 yards away. was incredible just being in the presence of such an animal. Day 3, lots of sign again but didn't see or hear a thing. by this point we all put in a lot of miles but no one from camp got one yet. Day 4, morning was the same. didn't hear or see a thing. all the guides are thinking the rut just hasn't really kicked in yet so we change up our strategy for the afternoon. we sat in an open clear cut and wait to see if one comes cruising through. I'm sitting on a stump and my guide is on the ground. about 3:45pm I start smacking him in the arm saying "Big Bull, Big Bull!!!". he just walked right across us about 300 yards away not stopping once. so my guide starts grunting and racking and for a minute or two I thought he was gone. but then I hear the bull grunting and racking back. for about 15 - 20 minutes we go back and forth with him. couldn't see him but we would hear him come a little closer than get a little further. he goes silent for a minute or two then we hear him breaking branches as he circles around us to get down wind. before my guide even finishes saying "he's gonna come out right there" he was there. perfect broadside at 60 yards. first shot was a little far back but he turned away and looked back towards us and my second shot hit him through the bottom lip and nose. he runs about 20 yards and starts getting wobbly. hit him with a perfect third shot and he goes right down. unbelievable adrenaline rush!!! another guide and a helper come to help us quarter and pack it out. couldn't get it weighed but they all assumed it was over 700, probably closer to 800. 41 inch spread with nice paddles and symmetrical fronts. couldn't be happier with him!!! I spent the next 2 days going out with the guide and helping the other hunters from camp. I helped cut up and haul out another 40 inch bull for a client the next day. that same day another client who was hunting a different unit dropped a 52 incher. was an amazing experience!!! can't thank OMM outfitters enough!!! Hunt of a lifetime!!!

Well tomorrow I depart for my Maine Moose hunting adventure!!! it's unreal!!! Can't believe I even won a cow tag, let alone was able to trade it for a bull in a great area. Can't say enough good things about OMM outfitters and I haven't even left yet. This is truly a dream come true for me. Moose has always been my dream animal. Leaving the house around 3am tomorrow, should be about a 9 hour ride. Not sure what the cell service is gonna be like up there so unfortunately you guys might have to wait a week to hear about it. Thanks for all the support and I plan on taking LOTS of pics for everybody!!!

sure did, they took care of the whole tag swap for me. all I had to do was write checks and mail out some paperwork. they couldn't have made it any easier. and from the looks of it, I have tremendous odds of smoking a giant bull. no doubt I made the right choice with this outfit!!!

I leave 2 weeks from today for Eagle Lake Maine! it's starting to get real!!!

heading out to the big lake for salmon on Tuesday, I imagine they are stacking up towards the mouths of the rivers considering some are already heading upstream
