  1. Quite a few yotes on cam, one of them might be catching a hornady Sent from my SM-J327T using Tapatalk
  2. 3 shots heard so far and surprisingly only 1 before legal light. Had a spike come through but I'm looking for horns today. Already got a doe and a 6 point in the freezer from bow Sent from my SM-J327T using Tapatalk
  3. should get extra points for being in velvet
  4. did this about 6 or 7 years ago. first and only time carving a pumpkin
  5. just started making my own venison bacon cheddar snack sticks in the smoker this year. instantly became my new favorite stand snack. gonna try making jerky next
  6. 815am thought about giving this guy a pass because I saw a monster buck on another property I hunt but it all just happened too perfectly. 8 yards perfect broadside, I couldn't resist. No regrets though, I'm definitely happy with him. Sent from my SM-J327T using Tapatalk
  7. 815am, not a giant but real nice for this property. Was arguing with myself in my head on whether to give this one a pass on not, mostly because I saw a monster buck on another property I hunt 2 weeks ago. No regrets though, could always use another European mount. And that's number 2 for the freezer so I can not complain! Sent from my SM-J327T using Tapatalk
  8. This thing is invaluable, I figured out a way to attach it to the stand while I carry it in then I leave it at the base of the tree while hunting. https://www.amazon.com/Sherpa-Game-Cart-Summit-Classic/dp/B015EMLAIO these too. instead of hauling a backpack you can throw items in there. front bag is nice too https://www.amazon.com/Summit-Treestands-Deluxe-Side-Bags/dp/B01N6X2EUP/ref=sr_1_6?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1539631311&sr=1-6&keywords=summit+tree+stand+accessories&dpID=41-A0wLsT-L&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch
  9. I rub my outer wear with evercalm, I've been winded twice in the stand this season so far but they were within 20 yards before I saw them react. Maybe it helps, maybe it doesn't. Playing the wind is the only thing that really works I guess Sent from my SM-J327T using Tapatalk
  10. I run into the same problem all the time. The one property I hunt only has one way in and it's through a cut corn field. Found a perfect entry point on Google earth but would have to cross the neighbors property and I don't know them so that's not happening. I've been walking through while it's still dark and I think that's the problem. I usually can't see them til it's too late. Still got a lot to learn I guess Sent from my SM-J327T using Tapatalk
  11. never actually connected on a stalk but have come within bow range quite a few times. usually on my way back to the truck, I either lose shooting light or can't get a clear shot. really gets the heart pumping though. if I hunted bigger properties I would probably try it more often but I try to sneak in to my stands like a ninja without spooking anything or leaving scent everywhere. always seem to run into deer while run and gun turkey hunting every spring though
  12. gettin it done on day one!! 102lb doe. she definitely winded me, stomped her hooves, and snorted at me twice. then walked right into one of my shooting lanes so I let her have it. 730am good way to start the season

    I just bought this
  14. crushed it on lake o out of mexico yesterday. 3 22lbers, 1 20lbers, 2 12lb cohos and 6 more kings in the 15 - 18lb range. 4 man limit. every rod was catching fish. couldn't close the cooler. what a day!!!
  15. My guess is bear. my father in law saw one 2 years ago on this property so it's definitely a possibility. but this was taken back in march, aren't they usually hibernating?
  16. wife loves to hunt, bow or gun. not a huge fan of waking up early but loves the afternoon hunt. got her first deer a few years ago, big doe 140lbs. helps me cut them up and even likes doing European mounts. guess im pretty lucky
  17. he's also an avid hunter and conservationist. he's had a bunch of tv hunting guys on. Jim Shockey, Steve Rinella, Remi Warren, and just had Ted Nugent on. All of them are worth listening to
  18. i don't think you could ever get a true answer to your question simply because every property is different. my best stand is right in my friends backyard, I can see his house from it when the leaves start falling. I see way more deer there than at my inlaws place where we gotta walk about a mile or so to our stands. but I see much bigger bucks there so it's a trade off. the only way your gonna find out is to scout and hunt. set up trail cams if you can and check for sign. for me I gotta hunt around my work schedule so if I have all day ill usually go to the inlaws. if I get out of work early enough i'll go sit in my friends backyard for a few hours. only way to really find out is to get out there and hunt
  19. 20yds that's the furthest I can shoot in my backyard. I'm happy with that Sent from my SM-J327T using Tapatalk
  20. Bow, 12ga, 30-06 hoping to add crossbow this year. been in the passenger seat while my friend got one with his Subaru and have had many close calls but have not hit one with a vehicle myself yet, knock on wood
  21. i leave mine out all year. I put them right next to my stands. I used to check them pretty often which was cool because it would get me even more excited about the upcoming season but last year I tried something different. I checked them during spring turkey, changed the batteries and didn't go back there til opening day of deer. just wanted to keep my human scent and disturbance down as much as possible. and I did see more deer last year than ever before. maybe just a coincidence but I'm doing it this way again this year. I have to help my father in-law move some stands on another property next week so im gonna check that cam but that's it. that property will be otherwise untouched. probably overkill but so far so good. I figured the pics never really changed my hunting strategy so why disturb the area. maybe if I put out more than one cam on each property I could actually pattern the deer more but I never have. the one property is only 5 acres(but next to a large farm that I have recovery rights to) and there's only one way to access it so the pics don't effect my strategy.
  22. that's a good idea. keep an eye on craigslist. absolute scum
  23. i'll give you the captain's info if your interested, we went back in may and got a nice mix of browns and kings plus a steelhead
