Not unusual for taxidermists to run poorly for time. Many are one man bands who can get over committed. Not an excuse, just nature of business it seems. However that shouldn't stop honest communications, and honest estimates for what is happening with a mount. For example my taxidermist had some health issues, and then I had a few changes in my life; but we are still communicating about some mounts he has had properly tanned and stored since early 2017 (that I hunted in 2016). Then I shipped him some 2017 trophies in 2018 when they came in the spring (can take a spell to get salted hides from out of country hunts). I know they are safe, he knows I want to get back to them at some point this year when my cash flow is better; but I have no down payment invested and he has outlayed tanning bill. Now prior to that, the local guy I used lost a hide and I had no idea WTF was going on and thats why he doesn't do my mounts anymore. (I've had quite a few mounts done) Original taxidermist 10 miles from home and the new guy in Flint, Michigan and he treats me better.

Could be part of the "Whats For Dinner" thread.

It was a S&W 34....2011.... I like the Bearcat but it doesn't fit my big hands well to actually shoot. Single Six feels better for me.
-
I thought you listed a Single Six on here some years ago for sale?

Wow, worst nightmare on those roads and seems to happen frequently; glad you got out of the jamb in one piece. I enjoyed chatting with everyone I got a chance to even if brief at times. EVERYONE has a unique and different perspective on things, I happen to find my passion hunting with inspiration talking to others who went before me. Hope I can light a spark in someone else to chase a goal. Look forward to another get together.

Its kinda like these meet up plans. Someone says they want in, but actually getting them to commit is another thing! Done a couple forum hunts that worked out great....Mule Deer in New Mexico and a couple days in South Africa as part of a longer trip..... Made life long friends on both. But doesn't need to be that "exotic". Lots of options out there.

After I move the G5 from its hanger at Teterboro to White Plains; it'll be much easier for those weekend jaunts to take some Buffalo,a Leopard, and Sheep. Thanks Chef for putting something together; nice to put faces to names. Sorry didn't to get to chat with more folks. Need to work on a forum hunt trip in the future.

I'm far north in Dutchess, I'm in 4Z, but 3G is across the street. On a clear day no issue seeing Catskills, Massachusetts, and Connecticut from top of the ridge in my backyard.

13 is half that list; considering all 13 may actually show up makes that number pretty good IMO. 10-15 is what I would have expected, with several bailing last minute for this or that.

Anyone tells you the current crop of Ruger Americans and the like will appreciate in time also has a bridge to sell you. Unless some sort of commemorative NIB and never untouched will it ever be worth anything. You have to be really educated on what to buy and the pricing to make money on rifle sales in the under $1000 market. I try to make a little or just move sideways and play with something I want too. Once in a while I'll make a good buck if I have a quick response and see something pop up thats undervalued. I've bought a few what many would think are "higher end" guns and in general its easier to make money on them; but you have a bigger outlay and risk. <<<<no surprise there, welcome to the real world. I do better selling decent level optics then gun sales; but again you have to pounce on a deal in order to flip them into profitable cash. I have lots of choices in my safe for anything; I think that most would be worth a bit more than I paid; very few a bit less. I tell my nieces there is a list in the safe and a dealer I trust local, take the whole pile and take whatever he gives you for them. Then they can take the money to pay for a dumpster to put all the taxidermy in. LOL

Talk about low standards!

Cure's are nitrates or nitrites. As they break down they emit oxygen which combats bacterial growth especially things like botulism which likes things in warm moist environments like inside smokers or inside sausage casings. Cutting the use risks bacterial growth.

There's no doubt to me that I'm getting more sap. I put together another group of similar sized trees just 30 yards away into a separate tank disconnecting from mainline for a direct comparison. And was hoping to duplicate that natural vacuum but just doesn't work for some reason. Like to add vacuum pump on my whole set up; but I'm not a regular producer right now, some years tapping more trees then others and can't justify price of even home made set up. My work schedule is just to questionable to invest more into my gear for what amounts to a glorified hobby.

I have a section of 20 trees on a steep down hill that produces a natural vacuum on all 5/16 tubing. I have tried to replicate it and have no idea why its just that section. Thats more taps than usual for 5/16 and the lines runs to a smaller tank with no mainline but about 30 feet of shallow pitch at the bottom on the whole run. I've taken video of it and you can see the sap running and is amazing. Fiddled with a almost identical area and cannot reproduce the same result.

Howard Hill shot a lion chained to a stake in the ground and a drugged elephant trying to pass them off as real hunts too.

So how many WNY'er posts are on this thread anyway?

54 in August.....so we are close enough to both be in the geriatric crowd at this one. Another forum I'm on just had a annual gathering and attracted 182 members.....looks like anyone will be hard pressed to get that kind of number. LOL

Super cheap and easy way for a hobbyist. I put a proper welded stainless pan on my evaporator arch like what I designed it for; but made out well with this set up for a few years til new pan was paid for in syrup sales.

Handicapped private school campus and commercial clean up work. Lot of handwork...walks,steps,school exits, etc.

3rd one is harder to swallow and gives indigestion.
-
Worked on tubing and adding a few trees on one tank last weekend and getting ready. Wood is stacked..... Think I'm going to relocate evaporator in barn to more convenient spot.
-
I think you are right......most everyone has been active here on the forum and that always helps. Look forward to it.

I've done a couple meet ups with forums or similar; never seen one yet that has everyone that said they would come, actually show up. Don't want to see anyone on the hook for the minimum pricing and room rent if someone can't make it. I just came off 2 twelve hour snow clearing shifts last 2 days; and going somewhere tonight wouldn't be top of my list for a burger and beer. Just sayin'. Wonder if the Goat has a booking commission?
