  1. You need to be about 3" longer then the longest rifle (or piece) you intended to transport. I happen to have aluminum case for full size, full length rifles. But Pelican is a favorite of mine with the soft corners for flying, and toting through airports. Last trip I used it, baggage folks put some sort of tractor tire mark across the case and no worse for wear for the case or contents. Personally I believe in cutting out the foam for a snug fit; others like to crush the guns in between the padding. This is a 1700 configured for my takedown rifle for 2 barrels; Same rifle stock.....same case.....but reconfigured for a different barrel/scope and some additional storage (gun sock for in a vehicle/extra scope/change of clothes) Aluminum ammo can is required for international flying (small aluminum box) 4 boxes of 20; with carry ons (2 pcs day pack and fanny pack;
  2. you folks seem to like this place..... Equilibrium Brewery buys former TD Bank building The future home of Equilibrium Brewery at 2 South Street in Middletown MIDDLETOWN – Equilibrium Brewery, with its headquarters behind City Hall at 22 Henry Street in Middletown, has purchased the former TD Bank building at the corner of East Main and South streets. City Economic Development Director Maria Bruni said it will be a plus for the business district. “That is going to be their second location and we excited to see their plans come to fruition and a nice reuse of the building in our downtown,” she said. Equilibrium plans to use the first floor and basement for brewery operations, and build an enclosed pavilion for bottle releases and for a tasting room. Other plans may include a restaurant on the upper floor. In all, the company plans to spend over $2 million into the project. Equilibrium bought the building from the city for $650,000 with $250,000 of that secured by a note and mortgage based on development goals, $100,000 at closing (last Friday, March 1) and $100,000 in four payments annually on the anniversary of the closing date.
  3. 2 recently sold on forum classified at places you both know for 350(vg) and 440 (mint/box)
  4. Actually he's probably referring to the fact he knows I own 3 switch barrel /takedown type guns. What he may not know is I own 4 by 3 manufacturers at the moment, and have owned no less then 7. I think I have more then a handle on concept, use, weaknesses and practicality of the design both in factory and custom. Sorry Chef..... I should have known better.
  5. Frankly I don't really care where you go on vacation or hunt. I know lots of guys with different types of take down, switch barrel guns and not one of them packs the gun to walk on a trail even at extreme elevation. Lose weight or get in shape. They are far easier solutions.
  6. ^^^ This. I have a switch caliber that packs down, and doesn't suffer the repeatability issues of takedown traditional bolt actions; but I have it because its traveled all over and frankly a smaller case is easier then a big one. And I do multiple species hunts and its easy to take just the extra barrel and not an entire second rifle for 2 different chamberings. And sometimes the full sized case still goes with a "standard" design (and is still a PIA) if that fits the need. Takedowns started because it took months by multiple modes of travel to get from the British isles to the corners of the Empire and the gun needed to be packed away for long periods of transport and tucking it into a steamer trunk was easier then one long odd ball container prone to theft and damage.
  7. I don't even think you know Roy Weatherby or the company made only a handful of rifles ever. Even thats up to debate. He was a used car salesman and subcontracted manufacturing to a host of other makers....thats why there are German made Weatherby's, Mikoru made Weatherby's (same company makes Browning stuff), newer are by Howa and the 1500 and Vangaurd are the same thing..... Can you have a take down based on a 9 lug basic Weatherby Mark v....sure. Any bolt action can be a takedown.
  8. Since when do any of those I mentioned do any of that? Go buy a Remington rust-o-special then. Fact is there are a ton of great rifles new and used for $2K but you have to use your brain first to figure out what are the most important features and what are priority. Most of them you have never heard of because there are multiple makers that aren't in Outdoor Life or some dumb link in an on line ad.
  9. Didn't you buy a hundred dollar break action single shot and then wondered why it was taking so long to repair? What makes anyone think you'd buy a $2K rifle? Frankly if you had the coin it'd be best spent shopping for something like a Hill Country , H+S or similar on the secondary market. I can put a Blaser together for about $2200, mine have been workhorses and 100%. Still want one of the RBL 20's they started with.....
  10. I have had the Honda 2000i for several years. Runs terrific, easy to drain carb bowl, and I put non ethanol gas and stabil in it. So quiet and easy to carry I find myself using it more frequent even around the property than I thought I would. Was worth the extra $$ to me. Runs forever on tank of gas doing fridge, freezer, couple lights, electronics.
  11. I try to pass on copies of magazines for others to read. Back in mid 2000's I had a few articles published from some hunts and kept copies of those issues, but everything else goes.
  12. I guess I always think of rifles as multiple species capable and not limited to just one in a certain situation or particular distances.
  13. You are assuming the target is deer sized with a larger vital size. Guns not limited to just deer hunting.
  14. Thats a matter of selecting a hunting scope for multiple conditions vs a "long range" scope good for punching paper in daylight. I have been using FFP scopes way before the current long range fad; and thats why mine are fitted with German #4 reticles with heavy side bars, as I don't need dime accuracy at 100 yds in low light, and it helps the eye "bracket" the target. I've even sent in a Leupold and Swarovski and with a nominal fee, they'll put in anything you like for crosshair style they offer.
  15. You should bring a change of clothes too.... If I make it; I been offered the best steak dinner in Westchester to let some beer spill by an anonymous donor. That'll douse that pipe's flame, EH?
  16. Not exactly durable, and has never fit in with any activity I have done. I have a First Light coat (stormtight?);I like as it has a long cut and good for sitting amd I like the pit zips. Also have some Kyrptek pants I like for fit. For backpacking/fishing tough to beat Patagonia pants and jacket for weight/durability/pack-ability, and price. Have some Cabelas MT050 that is about as quiet as I have found with a softer surface finish thats my back up set. Bit warm for walking, and not cheap unless on sale.
  17. Thats no good; I want to see it at the Storm alternative GTG he's planning. Still waiting on location. You going to try and make an appearance at both?
  18. Aw, come on, this thread has been the best. I'm going to Storms GTG and if he brings his $50,000 school tax bill I'll buy him dinner and drinks.
  19. I know two booking agents that did the show this year and was chatting with them.... Its becoming quite the show with much expansion in last few years and it was packed Friday and Saturday. I'd like to go once; maybe we could put together a few guys on here to split some costs getting down there.
  20. I have a Badlands 2200 after using someone elses in mountains for several days climbing and covering some ground. Has a very good system for spotting scope and tripod; and a good system to compress down when not using the volume. Carried a fair load in broken terrain with maybe 75lbs meat and cape. Bigger then the other options mentioned by a bit. I like the fit and carry for myself. Honest I would order 2 narrowed down choices and put a load in each and see what fit you better, and send the other back. I was convinced another brand was a great option but just didn't adjust well enough to fit me and went back to Badlands.
  21. https://modernfarmer.com/2014/06/yak-farming-thing/ LOL....SCI will recognize just about anything for an inner circle jerk pinnacle gold hunting platinum slam of the world life achievement lord of the rings award.
  22. The feral cattle there are called Vancouver Bulls if you want to google hunts . They're small and have long legs. They hunt what are called locally Scrub Bulls(Feral OX for SCI) in Australia and at one point you could hunt feral Longhorns in Texas. Here's SCI's list for wild oxen of the world... ❏ Cape or Southern buffalo ❏ Nile buffalo ❏ W. African savanna buffalo ❏ Central African savanna buffalo ❏ Dwarf forest buffalo ❏ Water buffalo (N. America) ❏ American bison ❏ Barren ground muskox ❏ Greenland muskox ❏ Feral yak (Asia) ❏ Water buffalo (S. America) ❏ Water buffalo (Asia) ❏ Water buffalo (Africa) ❏ Water buffalo (S. Pacific) ❏ Water buffalo (Europe) ❏ Sichuan takin ❏ Golden takin ❏ Yak (N. America) ❏ Banteng (South Pacific) ❏ Mishmi takin ❏ Feral ox (South Pacific) I know two guys who hunted China back in the 70's and have lifesize Golden Takin mounts; very cool. They were supposed to reopen a season there for foreigners but some political mess about tariffs messed that all up.
  23. Getting that far south coming out of Hyde Park at that time of day is tough. Haven't asked for any time off on new job either; have to feel that out. On the other end I'm kinda pissed I'm losing a days pay on Monday since I don't qualify for any paid holidays either.
  24. Interesting enough many of the big players in the game doing international trophies (and domestic) are going to guaranteed short delivery times......some 6 mos....others 90 days (!). You'd be surprised that that doesn't come with ridiculous pricing either, well within the pricing structure for most areas. I received a very competitive quote out of curiosity. One example; http://www.animalartistry.com/ But they run their shops like real businesses and many find the artistic end doesn't always gel well with running a fiscally responsible enterprise. LOL
