  1. thanks... most people don't understand how hard it is to shoot a band, even in hunting circles, but i guess even a blind one finds a nut once in a while right? lol CNY
  2. Likewise the closer it gets to the rut the longer I stay out, and the crappier the weather I stay out. Pretty much only call it quits early in early season. I'll probably sit all day or as much as I can on the opener just because its opening day finally and I'll want my bow in hand as much as possible. CNY
  3. Yup had this happen plenty of times just gotta make sure your trails lead to a 20 yard broadside shot before circling back to your stand CNY
  4. I see a feral cat here and there but for the most part the coyotes keep them knocked down pretty well. Cat is supposed to be one of the best baits for yotes, never used it myself but I've been told it works wonders. CNY
  5. So i took part of the morning off today and hunted a field up the road that had about 2-3 hundred geese in it for about a week. Not only did we shoot 18 birds (could of shot our three man limit but wanted to get out of thier early so some birds will still use the field) but I also shot my first banded bird, it was banded in Virginia June of last year. As always with waterfowl hunting when we were picking up we still had birds in the air trying to land in the field. About an hour after we picked up I passed the field again on my way to work and I saw about 50 geese back in the field already..... Hopefully friday will be a good day as well.
  6. I have oats planted as well started them about two weeks ago and thier growing great can't wait to see them painted red...lol CNY
  7. cool video... question for ya tho, Did you just hang a branch or did you start the branch with some sort of scent, and what you got growing in there? It looks like it will be perfect height/age for the early archery season. CNY P.S. great looking bucks hope to see some pictures of you holding him up
  8. The gizzard is actually where the grinding takes place the crop is more of a storage compartment used to drop small portions of food into the stomach while the bird is roosting/resting (not feeding). While some grinding may occur here the majority of it occurs in the gizzard. This helps them maintain homeostasis (sp) since birds have such a fast metobolic rate.
  9. These aren't broadheads that you usually hear about. How did you come to choose between these three? There is not much too much online about them. What he said... I've never heard of or used any of those broadheads, but like you said the deciding factor is going to be on how they fly. If they fly good and have decently sharp blades you shouldn't have any problem if they hit the boiler room. Just about every broadhead on the market will kill a deer if you put it in the right spot. My dad killed a doe with Wal-mart brand broadheads on aluminum arrows flying out of a 25 year old compound if you hit the spot it doesn't matter. The reason I like Rage's isn't just the fact that they fly great for me, but that when they open I have more room for error and a better chance of nicking a main artery if my shot is off. I tend to shoot farther back on my shots making rage a better choice IMO I have a better chance of taking out the liver and leaving a big wound chanel if I'm even farther back. If your bad shots tend to be farther forward I would opt for a fixed to handle the bone better.....just my .02 good luck CNY
  10. Bring back DDT lol ..... just kidding just kidding I was talking about something similar last year with muskrat numbers the trapper attributed it to the increased number of birds of prey and loss of habitat.
  11. Thanks That website you provided, However is an advertising agency not sure if thats the site you meant to give or not??
  12. Haha thats why its called hunting and not killing. Now if you had decided to shoot a smaller buck only does would be under your stand and so on and so forth..... Me and Murphy seem to become really good friends during hunting season. It always has a way of evening itself out in the end though lol
  13. Yea you either love them or hate them - it depends on if you've been burned before I guess. I think that goes for all broadheads though - I've had poor success with some brands before. They are not barbed because the blades are on a free swinging pivot and would flip up when you pulled them out. Ok thats what i was wondering its hard to tell from just a picture... Might give them a try this year, thier on sale online at basspro for 19.99 I believe. Spend 20 for the replacements for the rages that I already have and try something new for 20 as well I like the way it sounds already lol
  14. Rage 2's all the way havn't had a bad thing to say about them yet I checked these out wouldn't these be considered barbed?? Other than that I would give them a try. CNY
  15. I got a couple bucks that I will be waiting on this year, however should another (2.5 +)shooter walk by or a lonesome doe both will get a rage to the cage!!
  16. Haha thats a good one I would use it except my dad thinks its bad luck to bring a knife in the woods with him, he leaves it in the truck. "I gotta go get the truck anyways might as well get the truck first and see how close I can get before I gut it and then drag it farther than I need to." He kinda has a point... don't tell him I said that though...lol.
  17. Hey Pyg, why don't you come over to my place squirrel hunting and tell me how many bucks I have since I can't seem to get a decent picture....lol
  18. I've never taken a deer to a processor and as long as i'm able to do the work myself I don't ever plan on it. At the age of 12-14 my dad went from teacher/mentorer to supervisor I think he's cut up a grand total of 2 deer since that time and that was ten years ago... o ya he shot way more than just 2 deer in those 10 years lol. I'm excited that this year I have a new group of trainee's. A bunch of my buddies will be joining me in the woods for the first time this season so once one of them gets a deer I'm holding a butchering Clinic lol. I'm also holding a gutting clinic (hopefully in early bow when i get a deer, since none of them bowhunt...yet) CNY
  19. Ok guys I have way too many coyotes on my property and in addition to calling and trapping. I would also like to add baiting to my arsenal of predator hunting techniques. Now I understand that the basics will still apply as any other hunting getting the wind right and so on and so forth. What I am inquiring to anyone willing to share is about the baiting process and distance from the stand to the bait. Should I put the bait in a funnel shape of logs like you would for bear to corral them to a good shooting lane? How often should I check the bait? Should the bait be secured? I hear coyotes won't come around if they know there is humans around. I'm going to be using my trail camera to get an approximate dinner time for the dogs and set up accordingly. Thanks in Adavance for any help CNY
  20. I got a simple solution everybody makes your best guess as to when the rut is going to happen. Then every one needs to go out and shoot a late season doe and measure the fetus to back date the rut..... to bad it won't tell us when the rut is and only when it was lol . CNY
  21. Not sure about Madison but there are some here in Onondaga. My dad told me today he saw his first hard horned buck this morning..... So it starts....... CNY
  22. Couldn't agree more while I still beieve that extremely hot weather will just push them nocturnal....like cabin fever said "these poor SOB'S only get a few days a year" You can bet that thier gonna be making the most of it.
  23. HAHA coming down with Buck fever are ya lol.
  24. I agree the only thing worse than a full moon is a hot day with a full moon haha. Check out www.sunrisesunset.com/ its a great site for sunrise and sunset with all the moonphases and can be custom made to your city with exact times of sun/moon rise/set. Maybe it will help with your planning? CNY
