Hey Guys I just bought a new inline and I was wondering who uses bore butter to season their barrel? How do you like it? Do you think it makes a difference with or without it? I go mzling in the Catskills every year and I have buddies that are dead against it and others who wouldn't go without it wondering what some others have to say about the topic? Thanks ahead of time for your help CNY

.75 !!! what you shooting with that?!? That sounds like a big boy toy lol.... Seriously though what do you use it for? Sounds like a cool gun. CNY

Have you thought about those kits that you can make your own I know its probably not what you want and you probably want a pro doing it. However, I think there is something special about putting a deer down with a gun that was put together by you. Just a thought maybe something for the mean time while you save up for the real good one. CNY

An excert from the link: "In response to the NYSCC request, we included the following question in our 2009 small game hunter survey: "Would you support a law change to designate mourning doves as a game bird in New York State?" Potential responses were: "Strongly Oppose", "Oppose", "Don't Care", "Support", and "Strongly Support". Surveys were mailed to approximately 5,000 randomly selected small game hunting license holders, and responses were received from about 2,400 people. About 23% indicated that they would support such a law change (see chart below). Most respondents (64%) said they "don't care" or did not answer the question at all. Approximately 12% indicated that they were opposed to a law change to designate mourning doves as a game bird in New York." They need to stop doing these mail out survey's very few people return them. I'm willing to bet that a good majority of the " I don't care" were simply not returned. Granted if they didn't return it then in a sense i guess they don't care do they lol. If there were some kind of survey system online or through decals when we bought our license I think the numbers would be a lot different. While it might not be as big as deer hunting people if given the oppurtunity I think sportsmen would take advantage of another reason to get outdoors. CNY

While unplugging guns and extending season may work, I doubt they would. As capt terry eluded to these are birds in unhuntable situations and a lot of times not enough hunters to keep up even if they were allowed to hunt them. Another reason they wouldn't be able to extend the seasons is that they are a migratory bird and after the early season migrators and locals are all mixed together so how could we only shoot the locals while leaving the migrators for the rest of the atlantic flyway to shoot? Thats the reason for the early seson because the birds havn't started migrating yet and the STATE puts liberal limits to reduce the local population. Once those birds start moving south it goes the Federal govt. (reason for having to buy a stamp at a post office). Untill we see a situation like there is with snow geese I don't see the federal govt making the regular season limits more liberal anytime soon. I share your sentiments about burying the birds though theres no reason for them to be wasted. I think they should find some local butchers and do something along the lines of the venison dontaion program like Doc mentioned. CNY

Management Plans
CNYlungbuster replied to CNYlungbuster's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Ya sure its no where near being done yet this hunting season is going to be our trial run to see how many of our neighbors are on board and serious about it. After the season we'll go back through and age all of the jaws and look at the data we've collected and set things up for a 3-5 yr plan the following seasons. Reaccess occordingly based off of harvest data after those 3-5 year plan. -

Thats sounds like a lot of fun. I got a couple buddies up here that I'm training with now, but new venues and new dogs would def. be something worth working in once in a while. If I can get a free weekend sometime I'll try to make it down for a Sunday. CNY -
Myself and a hunting buddy from school are drafting a management plan to put forth to our families and neighbors. I was wondering who else out there is doing something similar and what techniques your using? CNY

It all depends on camera, card, and battery combinations its almost like finding the right load lol. With the right setup you would be surprised at how many videos can be had on one card and one set of batteries. Check out Chasingame.com they have great break downs of camera's card sizes and how long it takes to go through a set of batteries

I'm heading to BassPro sometime soon to get a ML for myself. Going with the traditions buckstalker redi-pack comes with everything you need to get started except for powder and primers for like 180. Thats the route im going anyways, if I get it anytime soon I'll let you know how it shoots. CNY

Thats the plan, shes doing real well with basic obediance so far, she has been introduced to: water(loves it), frozen pigeons, and gunfire(.22lr), doing great with all three. I'm waiting untill the end of the State Fair this year and i'm going to go buy all the left over pigeon pairs that they sell in the poultry barn after the shows and races. Then start a loft so I can train her through the winter on live birds. I'm also going to be buying ducks this spring so I can shoot fliers for her. -
Just goes to show that some of us never grow up lol

So speaking as part of the next generation.... figured we needed some young blood with all of you old fogies lol jk guys. While I can understand where your coming from with all these new fangled gadgets us kids have got lol. Simply buying a camera and putting it out doesn't guarantee your going to get any pictures ya some people will get lucky and hang it in a good spot and get a picture of that big 140 the first time they put it out, but most of the time its not like that. I go on scouting trips to find a good spot for my camera!! I may walk around the woods for 2 hours and go home without putting my camera up, because I didn't find a spot that I found suitable for hanging it. As far as blazing fast bows with stiff arrows and all the bells and whistles, I use some of the stuff. My bow is of a medium speed and Yes I shoot Rage but all of those things don't matter if I can't hit where I'm aiming. Thats why I shoot at least once a week in the summers and leading up to the season usually everyday. As far as loosing sight of the big picture I don't know that too many of us have. My in-laws live in some of the best hunting in the state (WNY). However every opening morning of bow and reg seasons you can find me on my family farm with my dad....( Oh ya the huntings not to bad at home either hehe ). All in all though I guess what I'm trying to say is that I agree with Doc. I don't think we have lost sight of things I think that its just a different avenue to get there while others may use this new technology as a replacement for goods woodsmanship in my opinion nothing can replace that and technology is only a tool which a woodsman may use. So I guess in those cases you are right but it's not all of us. I thank my Grandfather and Father for teaching me the right (hard) ways of doing things in order to appreciate the technology that we have. By doing it the hard way first you learn a whole lot more also. No scope untill you can shoot with iron sight (or no sights in my case lol) no compound until you can shoot a long bow, so on and so forth. Which will be instilled into my kids and hopefully passes along......I can't wait to see what new fangled gadgets they have for me to gripe about because you know with todays technology its never ending!! Like its been said before... Hunt the food in the early season bucks are in chow mode and need to put on the calories so they got something to burn off once the rut hits. Once the rut does hit I like to find secluded openings where does feel comfortable bedding/feeding and hunt the trails leading to and from them looking for that buck cruising back and forth checking for that first doe to POP. While I would classify myself as a hunting enthusiasts that just loves dogs I am proud to now have a retiever to start training for next season- Cabela "Bella" This is an older picture of when we got her at 8 weeks she is 15 weeks now and up to 28 pounds. CNY -
Bowslinger: I've been wanting to try calling them in have you had much luck calling? I usually just trap a couple every year, but I would like to get some more by calling them in if it works like I've heard.

Got one when I bought my bow I was shooting two different bows (Redhead Kronik/ Fred Bear Lights Out) going back and forth trying to get a feel for them and make up my mind. I took one more round with each of the two bows and then i shot a robin hood with one and I said I'll take that one lol, the bow tech. gave me the arrows and everything. As I was in the process of checking out the floor manager walked up to me and asked if they were my arrows or the stores I was going to lie to him and tell him they were mine for fear that he would rob me of my first robin hood, but I told him the truth and his response shocked me, "Good", he said, " I wouldn't want you to ruin your arrows, your taking those home right?" From that day on been making all my big purchases at Bass Pro. CNY
