  1. What are you judging for on your potatoes? Yield, biggest, appearance? What variety? Feed them nitrogen up until the blossom's fall off them, after that they like potassium. Trust me speaking from lots of experience.
  2. What a crock. I've been out quite a bit since gun season opened in 8F on my own land and haven't shot any deer, not because I'm letting them go (I do pass young bucks if I see them). Its because I'm not seeing any deer to shoot! I would love to shoot a doe for some meat, it's been my goal for two weeks. I grumble to myself every time I hear this too many deer nonsense.
  3. Been a good coyote season around my area of 8F. I got one opening day, my buddy got one yesterday on a small drive we put on and I heard another one was shot by a neighbor this morning. No wonder we aren't seeing the amount of deer we thought we should be!
  4. Me and my buddy hunted all day yesterday and most of today in 8F. Neither have yet to see a deer. I did get a coyote yesterday, so at least I got some shooting in!
  5. Remington 700 , 30-06 165 grain hornady SST for me
  6. Good sit so far in 8f. Had a smallish eight point harassing does and rubbing close by. Little later doe and two fawns came running by followed by a big coyote. Called the yote in but no luck getting him.
  7. Saw three bucks following a doe across a field today about 3:30. Really big one right with her, pretty nice one about a minute behind them, a small one right behind the second one. Wish I had my binocs to see them better with as they were about 300 yards out behind my barn.
  8. Nothing last night, nothing this morning, nothing so far this afternoon.... I'm beginning to see a trend! My camera check this morning showed good activity 10/26 and 10/27.
  9. Turkeys flock up every winter on my property. The last two years I called the DEC to participate in this study. They never show up to do it though, so this year I'm not calling, I tried to help them out enough.
  10. 8F, been dead where I hunt until today. Had a group of deer go by my stand this morning. Too thick to see just how many. This afternoon I passed on a pretty decent eight pointer feeding on some clover and corn (hoping to see the big guy). A while after he left a doe and button buck came into the corn. I shot the doe and she dropped. So now I'll have a little meat for the freezer and be able to keep waiting for a big buck to show.
  11. Good job on the coyote! Only one button buck here so far
  12. 8F, had a buck chasing does on the walk in this morning, too dark to see. Turkeys are waking up now.

    Vacation?

The best action I usually have on camera is from 11\5-11/12. I'm planning for some stand time then.
  14. Wowza! I've been waiting to go check my cameras, now I'm going to go check tomorrow. Good luck seeing him sometime
  15. No jakes for me, doesn't bother me if someone else shoots one though. Seems like more longbeards are around this year, might make for some fun hunting!
  16. I checked some cams sunday and was surprised to get a picture with 3 longbeards strutting in one of my fields. I haven't been ambitious enough to take a walk in the morning to see if they are out there hammering away in the morning.
  17. I'm working on my dream piece now. 54 acres that I live on and am starting to improve as time and weather allow, as well as trying to buy another 30 acres that adjoin's. The 54 has a swamp, some overgrown brush and goldenrod fields, a few apple tree's and is surrounded by ag and orchard. The 30 I'm working on buying is a little over half open ag field with the rest being fairly brushy.

    Vasectomy

How timely this thread is, I am pretty sure this procedure is in my near future. One 5 year old boy and a 9 month old boy that never stops getting into everything has my wife convinced she is all done.
  19. I checked my camera today and was happy to get a picture of the buck I was after during the season. I didn't know if he made it or not. Here are some pictures of him through the year from August, September, November and January. I did end up getting his eight point buddy that was with him in the August picture. I never did see the seven pointer once during the season. I wish I had a side shot picture of him saved on my computer from November to show how big his neck was, he was blown up!
  20. Great day in 8F. Me and 3 buddies did a little pushing around some orchards surrounded by swamps. We got one doe this morning, I got her with one shot from my 6MM remington. That was it for the morning drive. Then this afternoon one of us got a doe that came out to the orchard to feed with two fawns and one of the other guys got an eight pointer that had also come out to the orchards. The deer are hitting the apples BIG time! Hardly any sign in the ag fields. So as one of the guys said at the end of the day " Three out of four ain't bad....... unless your number four! "
  21. 8 F totally dead in my area. Hardly any shooting
  22. Here is a picture of my little buddy Hank. I picked him up in PA last year in October. He isn't a GSP though, he is a drahthaar. He is one energetic boy! He is just starting to be calm enough to be in with family most of the time. I am hoping to get him to be able to shed hunt for me.
  23. I owned a property that I had put into 480A. Its a good program if you know the goals of your property and can plan ahead because once the plan is submitted to the DEC you are pretty much locked in. It reduced my taxes significantly. I sold the property last year and the new owners took over the responsibility of following the plan. I used future forest consulting out of Naples to write my plan, they did a good job with it.
